been playing sc1 since the day it came out. I dont intend to stop because corporations are forcing paid players to switch to a different game.

I'm sorry, but the difference between vanilla SC to BW is so huge that it isn't even funny. It isn't just "adding a couple of units" that's analogous to a simple update on SC2. Those couple of units changed everything. Trying to argue otherwise is extremely disingenuous.

No, BW added key units, upgrades, and changed the armor/damage/etc of several units. The purpose was for balance. This is word-for-word a perfect, undeniable match to sc2 version updates with the exception of new units which will be added in HOTS and the protoss expansion. Are you denying those changes to sc2 also made everything what it is today? Trying to say otherwise is to demonstrate one's own lack of ability to properly analyze and compare. Nothing more.

Speaking of which, does anyone remember when dark swarm and disruption web used to last forever? I wonder what they did with that. I'm pretty sure they weren't big changes though...just like when spawning pools costed 150 minerals....those weren't big at all.

And I just want to add this. If the poll in this thread is accurate, they would be losing anywhere from 2/3 to 3/4 of their audience and that's just judging by foreigner votes. They might lose 90% of the korean audience, Jesus Chirst.

3/4 of their audience? Where are you getting that from.

64% of the people responding to the poll (which is in the BW section) enjoy SC2. OGN won't be losing anything from the Western audience with this move (except a few hundred people watching illegal re-streams of their broadcasts), instead they'll gain tens of thousands of people watching official streams, many of whom will be willing to pay for the privilege, should OGN decide to go down that road.

From the Western community at least, OGN and KeSPA stand to lose nothing and gain a lot by switching to SC2. The only question is what percentage of their Korean audience will stay with them following the switch. In the West the SC community largely embraced the new game, leaving only a small, hardcore minority of BW purists behind (you guys who have spent the last 2 years telling anyone that will listen how bad SC2 is and how stupid people are for liking it). That same element will exist in Korea but they're insignificant in number compared to the casual audience, which is what OGN/KeSPA will be hoping to capture.

Please also keep in mind that this poll is incredibly inaccurate since sc2 people voted as well. If you want real numbers, just watch my peoples' reactions. The pros and fans sentiments will tell all.

It's about the same as on TL. The SC2 vs BW argument exists too. They are also a lot ruder - some want kespa to fail lol

BW really is over since seasons 3 is probably going to be SC2 only. The only thing I want to look forward to is the former BW pros destroying current SC2 players so that I can laugh at their scene.

Those who think that the current sc1 players will dominate the current sc2 players are sadly mistaken.

In terms of the Korean audience, there's a big difference between the hardcore and the casual viewers. Many of the viewers are casual and watch the games because of the players such as Bisu, Flash, and the cuter and more popular ones like Firebathero, Leta, and Zero/Soulkey. So Korea as an audience won't lose much, especially if OGN does what the casters want to do, which is have the instructional shows again about SC2 to help the audience transition from BW to SC2. So the overall effect will be the same as that of the foreigner scene: where the hardcore BW fans will drop out while the more causal player followers will just continue to watch and support.

An example I'll use is the average qtpie you see on a stream. They don't know the games hardcore and have B- accounts. They are player followers and they will follow on with the switch and will probably like it initially with the new change in graphics. Of course afterwards is a bit of a different story as even the casual viewers might find the gameplay just too stale, but it will come down to a matter of taste by that point.
Need to write more things...

lol at "real numbers" being a few select quotes that support your viewpoint.

In terms of the Western audience the real numbers are already in: SC2 is far more popular than BW ever was. On a site with hundreds of thousands of users you guys have only managed to get 414 people to admit that they will leave the community once KeSPA switches to SC2. You "SC2 is shit and so is anyone who likes it" guys are certainly vocal but in the grand scheme of things you're so insignificant in number you barely even register.

The Korean numbers will come in once OGN starts showing Flash, Jaedong etc. playing SC2. Either people will keep watching, in which case those guys still have jobs, or they won't, in which case they'll have to start looking into a new career because their current one is over.

I knew it was only a matter of time until one of "these types" entered the thread. This is about the number of fans/supporters/viewers the esport scene will lose because of the failure of sc2. So once again since its obvious you're a bit slow, this poll is inaccurate because of the presence of sc2 fanboys voting on a poll that is not intended for them. Nobody here is talking about sc2's viewers being higher than BW's, and we certainly aren't talking about how much greater you think sc2 is. Get off the high horse. There haven't been hundreds of thousands of BW players on this site in... Probably ever.

The poll isn't inaccurate if you just count those who are claiming to leave. Clearly SC2 fans wouldn't vote to leave, and those who like both are obviously staying. So throw out those numbers and look at what's left. The only ones who will leave are BW only guys who don't like SC2 (415 as of this moment) and ~150 are staying for the community. I don't see how you can discredit that portion of the poll, and looking at the numbers they really are insignificant. Can't comment on Korean fans until it happens.

Yeah Day9 uploaded like what 10 hours of Skyrim, a complete playthrough of Amnesia and however many hours of that other RPG. His SC2 content seems to be working out for him! Look at Husky's subscribers, when he started uploading SC2 content his subscriber count skyrocketed to 500 000 in just a few months, this was about 1 year ago. How many do you think he has now? 2 million? 3 million? No, he has just over 600 000. Psy has pretty stopped streaming for a while now and reguarly gets more views and likes on his Boshy videos, a dumnass game that consists of bullshit. And this is the western audience, the guys that allegedly love SC2 to death. It's already on the way out.

People aren't upset because SC2 will replace BW, because it will never happen. We are mad because in one of their (hopefully) last attepts to keep SC2 afloat, Blizzard will severly disrupt and inconveience the BW scene. Some up and coming players might leave completely and the following shitstorm will stain e-sports' reputation. At the very least, the BW players don't deserve to be put through a year or rubbish just so Blizzard can go "WELP THAT DIDN'T WORK EITHER, TIME FOR ANOTHER EXPANSION I GUESS".

Easy answer. So its 415 people... Out of how many active BW hardcores? 415 out of 1000 would be a rather high percentage. What if the number of BW hardcore regulars left is only 600? For all I know, it could be 50,000 too in which case, yes it is a more insignificant percentage. However, without that final number for total BW hardcores, how can you insinuate that 415 is small? Not to mention I'm sure there's a few BW hardcores that are trying to grasp onto sc2 just because they need something to fill the hole BW's departure will leave. Also, not everybody votes.

Having more sc2 fans or supporters doesn't mean a thing when you're trying to figure out a percentage for who is leaving for good/staying/going to other games.

Not to mention this is pretty much completely excluding Korea which is the vast majority of the BW scene.

Boxer isn't winning first of all...and he still is a huge audience draw comparatively.

And I don't understand how this poll is inaccurate because of sc2 influence. Even if we disregard the percentages, it's still less than 500 people in the western audiences that contributed to the poll saying that they would quit watching starcraft.

This is just plain mean. We're all entitled to opinions if we're contributing to the discussion, and this is something that affects and matters to a lot of us, regardless of which side of the starcraft line we identify with.

You can go find a mod and tell him or her to filter us out if you want.

415 votes on a poll are what's fuelling the elitist bullshit you're spouting in this thread? That's where you get your inflated sense of self-importance? Really?
