They get exposure without having to invest in foreigners or teamless Koreans. |

They might have plans to recruit ? I am sure there is a thought more behind it then only sending XlorD out there. |

15k to 35k+
15k is huge for MLG because each one of those viewers is a paying customer. They're getting a lot of doe; DH is not.
Dreamhack doesn't need to make PPV qualifiers to do well enough to continue to develop and expand ^^
Exactly. Remember when Sundance was saying the PPV would have to be adopted by everyone, and was necessary, as no group was making money, I'm pretty sure the Dreamhack people came out and said they are doing fine. With the adoption of now being an open tournament (I hated that they did not do that last year) Dreamhack has become pretty much the best tournament, its pretty perfect, aside from the bad map pool.
esl survives for 10 years now without such models, and they do farily ok as well.
With an evolving scene it's possible the business model needs to change, with increasing prizes to players etc. Not saying that is necessarily the case, but it's possible.
This is pretty much the problem. The teams should be sending there players to events not the other way around. Every other professional sport the team pays for travel. The main problem is most teams aren't ran properly and don't make enough money to do this.
Im pretty sure that smaller events in various sports pay to have big stars show up. Im thinking various tennis/athletics events. On the other hand, some sports have teams with ultra rich sponsors that pay for everything but that wont happen until your grandpa switches from wathching champions league to GSL... I guess.

I totally agree with that. My mind was blown by Sundance's statement on Live On Three, that someone needs to pay the price of the players travels, and that MLG might as well be the ones taking the losses. That's not how a sustainable business/industry is supposed to be run. You just don't voluntary take losses for some kind of altruistic reasons just because the teams are not well run enough. I'm not sure if he was FOS when making that statement or if that's actually the way MLG is reasoning.
From MLG:s perspective it's possible it makes sense to pay for travels, but that should basically be considered a subsidy from the prize pool to players/teams who are less likely to take part of the actual prize pool. That is, if they pay for travels, it should reduce the prize pool to compensate in a way that MLG are still not running a loss. If costs are increased in one area, they need to be reduced in others. |
