Firstly I'd like to say this is my idea, and my doing. Team Liquid and teamliquid.net in no way sponsor or support this tournament/thread.

This is a little something I thought of while on the teamliquid ingame channel. We tested it with a small group of people with no organization and it seemed like a great idea!
What I pitched at them was a simple idea, "Doing a GSTL-style tournament, picking captains to draft teams and have a GSTL style single-elimination tournament." Thinking maybe 2-4 people would respond, I was surprised when many people were interested.

The idea is simple, 5-man teams pit against eachother in a single-elimination tournament. A team is eliminated when all members of the team have been defeated. Team captains choose who to send into the 1v1s. If a player wins, they remain in the tournament, and a life is not penalized on that team. When a player is defeated, they are on the bench and may not fight in any more 1v1s for this series. I also read on the forums here, that Icculus was mulling the idea of making a team obs map that would accommodate this format very well. Currently there would be no prize pool, and this is a very rough attempt to see how this is received. If attention is gained and people are interested I'll think about getting a site or some way to organize this better.

First I'd like to address how to join!
To participate in the TLCTL you need to be at least Diamond league in the current season. Teams consist of 4 players and a captain (who also plays as the 5th player). Get a team together and have your Captain PM me with a team roster (5 players max) with CharacterName.Code (Example Magikarp.703) along with their League and Race. You may also pick a team name!

Example Team:
The Players
Captain-Player.506 Masters Terran
Member-Player.607 Diamond Zerg
Member-Player.809 Diamond Protoss
Member-Player.723 Masters Random
Member-Player.472 Masters Terran

Upon receiving your PM I will add your team to the roster. Team members may use an ingame channel to communicate between games, but absolutely NO ghosting. Because of this I think many would prefer teams not be on Ventrilo/Skype, other communication programs. I realize there's no way to enforce this, but I ask you please not ghost.

Rules:
The first TLCTL event I am planning for Tuesday, April 24 at 8:00PM Eastern Time (GMT -05:00). (Information at bottom of post)
For the first event we will be using the Season 7 Map Pool as our map pool.
Teams will decide who gets first map pick, but whichever team picks the first map also has to reveal who they are sending for the first map. This will give the opposing team equal ground and the ability to plan the first game more than the team who gets to pick the map. After the initial map pick, losing team picks map. All members of the team do not have to be present in each game, but both team captains MUST be in the game alongside their respective player. If a team is short a player, they must play with the handicap of being a player down. A series ends when a team no longer has any players, including their captain, to send to battle. When this happens, the series is over.
Fights are bo1 single elimination.
An example series would look like this:
Team 1 is ABCDE and Team 2 is abcde. Team 1 sends chooses Xel'Naga Caverns as the first map and reveals that C will be their player for round 1. Team 2 then decided that e is going to be their player. e ends up winning over C. C can no longer compete for team 1, and team 1 captain must choose a player to defeat e. e stays in until he loses. This continues until one team has no players left.
First team to run out of players is eliminated.
Teams will be put on brackets and winning teams will face off until 1 team remains.
If a captain is not able to make it, players will elect a stand-in captain.
If a drop occurs within the first 5:00 minutes of game time, a rematch will occur, if it is past 5:00 minutes of game the dropped player is eliminated from the tournament.
There will be one pause per game for a maximum of 2:00 minutes, teams may not talk during this time and will only be allowed for lag/hardware issues.
At the end of a series, when a team has no players left, have the team captains PM Magikarp.703 with the results of the series. DO NOT pm me after each game, only at the end of a series. Both team captains must report the win/loss.

Think this is a great idea?
Send me a PM telling me you're interested in helping me run this idea. We could use casters/streamers for the games. I could also use some people to help me orchestrate this by being admins for me. If I had a few admins, I could split teams into divisions and we could have a very organized tournament on our hands. If you know of any website (z33k, playhem style) that can support such a tournament style, let me know, so I can use it. Or if you're a web-guy and would like to make us a tournament support let me know! Also if you have any suggestions/criticisms, I welcome them. Just send me a PM and I will be sure to read it.

Important Information
Diamond+ only.
First TLTL event: Tuesday, April 24 at 8:00PM Eastern Time (GMT -05:00).
-Meet in channel TLTL, captains must be present in channel.
-At 8:00PM I will give each team their opponents and the tournament will begin.
-Report the results at end of Series to Magikarp.703
-Map pool is season 7 ladder map pool.
-No prize pool... yet.

If TL doesn't support/sponsor this event, I don't think you can call it a TL teamleague. It's informal tho, so not a big deal. But just seems odd to see it advertised here but not supported. Someone will probably clarify

I agree with this, there are teams/clans/guilds in other games named Team Liquid which obviously are community run. I'm sure an admin or something will clarify on whether or not this is cool or not.

If TL is not involved in this thing at all what makes you think you can just use their name to advertise your own thing?

I think the only way you can use the TL name is if you don't simply take the TL name. I think "TeamLiquid Community Team" League would be an acceptable use. Plus I think poaching a chat channel that's made for anyone that frequents these forums to speak in (and besides is always full) isn't the best idea.

I think that this is a good idea but you shouldn't use the name " Team Liquid " as it is like false advertising imo, but gl anyways.

I've changed it to the Teamliquid Community Team League to avoid these completely useless posts on this thread. If an admin has a problem with the title of the thread, they can change it seeing as I'm unable to find a way to. The channel i chose is TLTL which has been empty every time I've checked it.

Well it's a league for Team Liquid readers/frequenters, it's informal, and he starts his post out with a disclaimer, so I think it's fine. I for one, LOVE this idea and will start trying to put together a team, if not for this tuesday, the next tourney :D

Also, no money, no profit, it's not like he's advertising. He wants to see if there is interest in the community. It's something that will merely be for the benefit and enjoyment of people on Team Liquid forums. Dunno why they would dissaprove

I might start doing a plat-bronze division in the future if this event goes well. The only reason I chose dia+ is because i didn't want to have a team of bronze-gold going up against an all masters team for obvious reasons. I plan on doing this every tuesday at first, when we get enough teams we will do this twice a week. If anyone wants to make a last minute team, feel free to. Information for the next event will be discussed during tonight's event.

Edit: I'm also talking with Abstruse Gaming and hopefully working with them to promote/populate the team league. More information will be posted later this week.
