Dreamhack delivered bigtime, and completely put MLG's event in the shadow this week. Dreamhack delivered an epic fight between foreigners and koreans for free, while MLG went for a PPV of matches we see on regular basis in GSL, where the win doesn't matter all that much tbh.

anyway, fantastic event.
Edit: nevermind
A foreign terran, and I'm pretty sure it is the first time a foreign terran has won anything in about a year.
Yeah, Thorzain won the TSL3 aside from that Drewbie won the MLG Winter Arena Qualifier in america but I don't think we can call that major. Last edit: 2012-04-23 07:12:29 |

I agree that it would've been fun to have more casters but they did a really good job nonetheless. |

With this win and the level of skill displayed, it's safe to say that Thorzain is the best foreigner Terran again.
Terran: Thorzain Zerg: Stephano Protoss: Naniwa
Two of the three are Swedes

That is a very respectable prize already....I mean, it's actually more than TSL3 if you think about it. Besides, this is not their main event.
MLG winners are getting half of that ,arent they
Arena winners, yeah.
well this isnt DHs mainevent so its kinda even :-) correct me if im wrong, but doesnt mlg give more money to they players that didnt reach top 3 though? |

Great end to another awesome Dreamhack event. Thanks for letting all the community streamers cover the early stages, IMBAtv were great fun to listen to and watch as always. Apollo is great. Dreamhack is amazing, congrats Thorzain!
Goodnight all, wish I could go to the after party. |

I don't think he ever stopped being the best foreign Terran. It was just that no foreign Terrans had won anything.

Wolf and Apollo are arguably one of the best combos in the business after seeing them this weekend, I don't think the casting suffered at all. |

not as long as they have a paying live crowd and government funding (none of which the arenas have)Last edit: 2012-04-23 07:13:28 |

I call bullshit on that, swedes are really patriotic.
In my experience I have to disagree, I have lived in Sweden for 5 years and haven't seen a single patriot and the ones that are seem to somehow being ashamed of it and called racists.
This is actually fairly accurate, I guess it has to do where in Sweden you live as well. It seems like the more south you go, the higher are the possibility of having someone calling you a racist if you're wearing a Swedish flag. Only my experiences though.
I am fairly sure the aversion to patriotism in sweden is nothing compared to germany... for obvious historical reasons.
These rules do not apply to cars and football though. |

The closest you get to major I think is IESF where Sjow won, but despite it being worth a fuckton of money the player field was pathetic and more akin to a regional online event.

I'd happily take Wolf and Apollo over most of the casters at MLG (bar Artosis).Last edit: 2012-04-23 07:15:54 |

Technically it's not government funding, the government funds SVT which in turn cooperates and provides support for DreamHack. |

SVT is goverment founded but they are not giving any money to Dreamhack, they just offered their streaming services for them to use (which is a kind of support but the way you put it indicated money). SVTs job is to pick up anything that is "in the public interests" which apparently eSPORTS is becoming more and more =)Last edit: 2012-04-23 07:16:09 |
