Completely dependent on the severity of the injury, if you "only" tear your ACL, you can easily make a full recovery, the only problem is it could take a lot of time, some get back after four months, some after six, others after nine or more. If he had torn his ACL and MCL (like first reported) that would've been much worse - but hopefully he'll make a full recovery!

KD gets both the most important and luckiest shot of his playoff career. Great game.

Yea that was a bit of a prayer. Dallas defended that perfectly.. whatever KD got it of clean enough and he worked the space to make it against really good D. Sucks to have a team lose a game like that.

It's been confirmed that Rose has torn his ACL and is out for the season, playoffs suddenly got a lot less interesting for me :<

Ugh, I had a feeling something like this would happen. I was rooting for the bulls to take it all, but I don't think they'll be able to make it past miami now. Why is Rose so injury prone?

They will have alot of trouble with anyone from Boston/Atlanta as well.

Sadly, a full recovery is pretty optimistic. A lot of people will always feel weaker in that knee, and it takes a lot of hard work and training to get back to your previous condition. And while you can play again in maybe 6 months and physically the ACL graft should be fine, most athletes don't quite seem the same a year after. But there's a lot of superstars that seem to be playing great after two years.

Rose can probably be a great player next season, but I bet he'll be playing a bit more conservatively than usual for awhile. The last thing you want to do is blow it out again. A few slips will make him think twice about dunking off his weak leg, or getting hit in mid air and landing awkwardly on the wrong leg.

Yeah, I guess we'll have to see if the loss of Rose is inspiring or deflating for the Bulls. They did pretty well without him in the regular season at least.

ACL tears normally aren't contact injuries. They're overuse injuries. Human beings didn't evolve to move laterally. Whenever somebody moves laterally, jukes, changes direction or does any type of movement that bends the knees sideways, it puts pressure on the ACL. After repeated fatigue, that thing can just give way at any moment. That's why many ACL tears happen without any contact whatsoever. For reference, see the Livingston ACL tear where it just gave way on a simple breakaway without anyone anywhere near him.

From what I noticed, it takes a long time for players to receover from this type of injury. Even after the player is back, it takes a long time for them to get back to near what they were before the injury takes place. Rose probably won't play near as well as he currently was until around this time next year. Even if Rose were to fully recover, I doubt it will be before the 2013 season.

(I know this will sound optimistic, but bare with me); given how hard Rose works during off-seasons, I truly hope it'll help towards a full recovery. I'm not expecting him to be back for the start of next season, in one way I hope he doesn't rush things in order to get back - nobody wants another Oden-like scenario to unfold. I'll be fine with Rose taking his time to get healthy - if he doesn't play his best for 1 1/2 to 2 years that's OK by me, as long as I'll get to see him at full strength at some point later (if that's what it takes).. luckily he's only 23, he still has a lot of basketball left in him :D

And I think I've got to start planning my trip to Chicago all the way from Norway (just in case his knee never heals 100%), so I at least can see him play live once

Didn't Livingston land awkwardly as fuck? I remember seeing his knee being bent <--- that way instead of ---> that way (so good at computer drawings!!) Rose's landing didn't look even close to that (which obviously is a good thing)! And yeah, ACL tears aren't contact injuries most of the time (the ACL gets fucked by all the cutting that takes place in basketball i.e. crossovers)..

He slipped and his knee went one direction and the rest of his body another. I don't know if what andrewlt said is even true, but I have indeed seen a lot of ACLs just "go" on the landing. I think it's just if your knee tries to move in a way that it...can't, your ligament tears. Not that different from snapping a rubber band, I'd imagine, a piece of flesh only has so much tensile strength.

That being said, Willis Mcgahee's tear in the 2002 Fiesta Bowl was the worst sports injury I have ever seen in my life.

ACL tears are terrible.

Rose will be out for at least 9 months depending on how bad it is. Feel really bad for the guy--it's one of the worst injuries you can do in sports. Especially for a guy like Rose who relies so much on his explosive game, it could be tough for him to come back to what he was.

People saying Rose will be back for the new season are delusional. ACL's are horrible injuries for any athlete and take roughly 9 months to recover from. It doesn't matter how good your rehab is etc, you need a lot of time to recover and rehab from it. Rose might make it back by December at best.

Whats more worrisome is wether he will regain and maintain the explosiveness. Thats something Rose relies on heavily, you can see how debilitating injuries ruin players *cough* Davis *cough* (ok hes old but still).
