A bit unrelated, but I'm getting tired of these pseudo experts and their simplistic view of the game. There's this big fallacy these days, that matchups are the biggest factor going into a series, so it's a good idea to compare each position one by one. Matchups are only really important for ISO guys. Yes, if you don't have any guy tall enough to guard Gasol and Bynum in the low post, you're going to have trouble against LA.

But against Westbrook, Harden and to some extent Durant, who are guys who like to play pick and rolls and come off screens, rotation and bigs are more important than one on one matchups.

Anyway I hope this series is over soon or I will have a heart attack. Especially if the Spurs keep turning it over so damn much!

I don't think anybody took a simplistic approach of saying matchups are everything. It is a big factor, but who knows if it's the biggest or not. And I disagree that matchups are only important for ISO guys. That's just false. Every team runs pick-and-roll (unless you are Carmelo Anthony), but matchups matter because it dictates how much help a defender is going to need off the rotation. It matters because they need to know if they have to double or not each time he gets the ball. Nobody has said that matchups are the most important aspect of a team's defense, which is what you seem to be arguing against. Basketball is a team sport, so obviously rotation off the picks and covering the paint are important. But matchups are important regardless of how much you like to run pick-and-rolls. No need for the pseudo expert jab.

talking about matchups tend to be a offensive thing, not defensively. you look to abuse matchups on offense, and negate matchups on defense. when someone says a team matches up defensively, they aren't talking about one on one defenders, although it is relevant, they tend to be talking about the defensive versatility of a team.

with leonard and green the spurs match up better defensively, as he has a strong body to guard durant, and green can double off sefalosha, with jackson and manu, they match up better offensively, as jacksons mid range and ability to cut are currently at a better nba level than leonard, and manu has fantastic ball handling skills.

its npt a matter of boiling down things to one on one, its about looking at the physical matchup and how having different players on the floor allows you to matchup differently. I mean, this sport is the team sport most effected by matchups, except for maybe a good WR CB battle in the nfl.

As a Bulls fan the ECF is going to be painful. Hate Rondo, hate Pierce, hate Lebron, hate Alien-Bosh. How is it that every announcer is able to talk about the "key" injuries to the Celtics and Heat without mentioning the Bulls lost 2 of their 3 best players and that those injuries clearly have made the biggest impact on the playoff thus far?

Sad truth is probably that they're not mentioning Bulls because they're out of the playoffs already because of their injuries, and they aren't even thinking about the Bulls at this point ><

Because the Bulls, you know, aren't in this series?

If matchups were the most important factor, then every game in a series would be exactly the same.

I know what you mean. I feel like the real playoffs started last night. Hopefully the Boston/Miami series doesn't disappoint.

Aww, this is why I personally don't care much for Celtics games sometimes. Yes, both teams have great defenses, but the sheer lack of scoring does make for a boring game in some aspects

boring to you maybe....personally games that are a race to 100 are more of a bore, I'd rather not know the winner of the game with 2 minutes remaining. not to mention the okc spurs game was a shitty game, not that it was a bad game, just both teams had the runs.

Hey hey, I made that post pretty conciliatory lol, where did I say that only love I love high-flying triple-digit games? I just would like to see some 20-point quarters and some nice back-and-forth scoring action sometimes, not necessarily offensive blowouts from one or both teams (though sometimes those can be beauties to watch).

Celtic's offense not showing up again. Let's hope they improve quickly. Blowout games are so boring.

Goes without saying.

Ridiculous T even by today's standards. Oh, how the pussification of NBA saddens me.
