Looking forward sooo much to it.
Apparently if you pre-order it on Verizon in US (darn just noticed almost everyone who has posted lately here is nonUS), you can extend your unlimited contract. Basically VZ told everyone that they're ending unlimited contract the next time you upgrade (and eventually all unlimited or non-tiered plans in general will all be gone in the future), so this is some good news. Unconfirmed rumor but a rep didn't confirm or deny either way, so there's a chance! |

Checked it out and played with it. Not going to talk about performance because there's nothing wrong with its performance. Stuff loads, for the most part there's no real stutter, etc.
Its ergonomically very, very good. Its very large but Samsung is smart enough to not put the lock button at the top. This is a problem with many larger phones like the One X and Xperia S. I have no doubt it'll survive a lot of drops too since the chassis is fairly flexible.
As for feel and aesthetics, I dislike it much more than the Galaxy S II. The use of fake metal is beyond tacky and feels like shit, glossy plastic is the bane of consumer electronics and scratches badly, and the new home button is much worse than the previous generation. Its raised. so fairly easy to find, but its feeling is...well no where near as good as the Galaxy S II or iOS devices which are depressed and fit the thumb well.
For the white phone, the two capacitive buttons are very difficult to see because the backlighting is white for some reason. Useful in the dark but hard to see outdoors or in any relatively bright area. I imagine this is much better with the blue marble (?) version.
As for the OLED screen, its nothing to write home about because its everything you already know. Deep blacks and contrast, pentile so some icons look very strange when viewed closely, and it still has strange saturation and tinting issues. I personally think the One X still has the better screen...black depth is something I don't really care about in a phone.
All in all, its what you've come to expect from Samsung. If nothing new comes out in the next few months, I might pick one up. The One X, while feeling much better, has the fatal flaw of being impossible to use with a single hand.Last edit: 2012-06-06 14:40:01 |

Got to play around with it a bit and I must say I'm a fan. As an iPhone user, I was most impressed by the snappy feel of the interface. Previous to this phone I had never used an android device that rivals the snappiness of the iPhone, it felt really nice.
This phone is perhaps the only Android I can imagine substituting my iPhone for.Last edit: 2012-06-06 14:39:48 |

Quad Core on a phone? Is that Overkill? I'm interested in how the Smart stay works... I still got my Galaxy S, how long do you guys think it can last before its as relevant as a nokia brick?
And is that a physical button at the bottom?Last edit: 2012-06-06 14:43:05 |

Darn, so it indeed looks pretty tacky in person D: thanks for the info, I'll definitely be looking for the blue version.....but then I just realized that one has to preorder to continue one's grandfathered unlimited plan grahhh, hope blue comes out soon enough =__=
iirc you are a regular in tech support, I forget what you do for a living or w/e but it was tech related so there's probably nothing I can really tell you that you don't know already, unless it's news, but you probably follow developments in technology as well out of curiosity, are you going to go for stock or will you root and flash some ROM on it? I was originally just going to say screw it and stick with stock despite my hating TW since some of the software features are really nice. But then the CM9 team announced that it would/could incorporate the features from SGSIII so I might just go there, even though a lot of their stuff turns out somewhat unstable even in the end. Since SGSIII will likely be really big, I'm hoping they have solid support for it ><Last edit: 2012-06-06 14:46:04 |

It's possible to connect to the internet wirelessly(?) with my computer with this thing right? "mobile Wifi" or whatever it is called?

| Eh network companies are greedy and usually charge for the ability to have wireless hotspots/mobile wifi, at least in the US, though there are ways to get around it [sometimes] I think. Not sure about Sweden's networks :/ |

If I do get it, I'm probably not going to root it since, for me, a phone needs to: 1) Take calls 2) Accept emails 3) Take occasional photos that aren't shit. 4) Check stuff on the internet 5) Software and hardware is stable, smooth, responsive.
Rooting doesn't really improve any of these things. For the most part, the software is perfectly fine and isn't broken like the HTC One X is. I'm pretty sure the HTC One X has multitasking problems, which I thought was evident when I played with it since it behaved exactly like multiflow on iOS. Fairly hilarious how the majority of reviewers didn't pick up on it.
I didn't bother playing messing with the options too much, since the phone isn't mine, but the only thing I would seriously change is speed up the swipe animations (probably in options, didn't check). Its very smooth just the transition takes its time to go from one set of tiles/icons/widgets/whatever to the next.
I'm probably going to make my decision when the iPhone 5 (or whatever its called) gets released. I don't really care about iOS vs. Android. If the iPhone 5 comes with the rumored metal back instead of the glass back, I'm just probably going to get an iPhone. Price is irrelevant, I buy my phones outright and I use them for a long time. I don't chase after specs anymore unless it offers a huge noticeable benefit.Last edit: 2012-06-06 15:14:07 |

Ah I see. Personally, I like to tinker with mine quite a bit, sort of into customization etc, and yeah it's a huge timesink ._.
I hope iPhone 5 doesn't live up to your standards (or is lower vs SGSIII) because I'm a pretty big Android fan and just like to see people use Android. Not necessarily a fandroid (or insert other deprecatory name for Android fans) but there are various reasons I don't care for iOS much and hope people use Android~ hehe but your standards are fair enough of course. Looking forward to the 1ms latency (I think it was) that microsoft demoed becoming widely-adopted, since even the more responsive displays have a significant amount of latency--which imho is really annoying. |

Hey guys ive been meaning to ask this a while on teamliquid for some advice , and now that this topic is about a cell phone i would like some opinions/help. I am 18 living with my parents (no job). i have not had a phone in a bout over a year my last phone was an LG chocolate....yeah ancient artifact, anyways, i wanted a new high end phone so ive been saving up and i got an eye set on the S2, however i have to find a phone that has a good plan, i live in St. Louis Missouri so carriers are kind vast. end of rambling -> Deciding for a Samsung galaxy S2 Q1: is it possible to get this phone to work on Virgin mobile ?, due to their plan where its unlimited text and data for 35$ seems very reasonable. Q2: is there any possible way to get this phone unlocked for less the 400$? Q3: in my current predicament i'm trying to get S2, but would it be better to wait for the S3 to come out and buy that for the probably ~$600 uncontracted price or will the S2 prices be lowered enough for me to purchase rather cheaply? I'm very noobish when it comes to buying a smartphone, i haven't had a good phone ever. so i will try to awnser any questions the best i can! TY!Last edit: 2012-06-06 16:35:23 |

Will reply more thoroughly when I have the time (also I'm sure there are others that can help you a lot better than I can >.<), but you can get the Galaxy Nexus for ~$420 (before taxes/fees) and the SII for $450, both off Amazon.
I would highly recommend the SGSIII (less than $200 more and it's a great deal better) but if money is really a tight issue and you don't want to be a burden on your parents, etc. those are the cheapest I've been able to find them. I'll let you know if I have better advice in general (than what I assume will be coming from other TL members) or if I can find those phones at a cheaper price.Last edit: 2012-06-06 16:46:16 |

1. Pick Carrier 2. Pick Platform (android or apple) 3. Pick Phone |

Canada will on have the dual core version, what a shame.
I'll still get it when it comes out at Bell. My HTC Legends is getting old. |

| kinda funny the htc one s and one x get buried so much under s3 and obligatory iphone hype. they are extremely good and in fact, since 4,6+" is too big for my taste, i think the one s is the best phone on the market. |
