Maybe it should just be a show about manners. People wouldn't have such a hard time getting into the genre or certain games if most of the people weren't total shitheads about someone being new/learning/doing poorly. Shit happens, just let people play.

I don't like bad mannered people, but DotA has always and will always(in my mind) be trial by fire for newcomers.
Regardless of what level of DotA you play there will be ragers and people with bad manners, if that is what keeps someone from playing DotA then they probably wouldn't get into it ever, because they'll never get rid of the bad manners from their team.
Unless they only play with friends of course.

Also, if this show is going to have an intro, include "We are electric" just for that DotA-ish feel.

Hey guys

Im really pleased that people have actully been so nice to discuss this topic, there has been ALOT of stuff that i need to solve and figure out how to solve them.

The way i see it, Dota has such a vast amount of information that you simply get to much information, i have to figure out a series of methods where i dissect the information into smaller but still relevant bits.

@Lvz i will contact you if i fire up the show Read your blog about positioning, it could easily be something that we could include in the show

About the manners part, im thinking about the whole approach to it, what dota needs is a radical shift, so far my experimentation is if you encourage people rather than blame them, it has an insanely positive effect (This should be natural, but for some reason, this is amplified 10x times)

Also id like to make discussions about being "The team leader" This is more a theory talk, since i believe not everybody can do it.

But thanks alot for all the replies, they matter alot! Please keep them coming, im watching this thread very closely even though i dont answer all that much

Regards

This is so true!
Complaining about something does not help, but if you give your allies and also your opponents credits for good moves and nice play makes you and the other player having much more fun.
It also helps a lot if there are experienced players being friendly and giving you advises instead of blaming you.

After I changed my attitude towards this I made a big step forward in both skill and fun.

I would realy like it if you would talk about this!

Go for it, I would love to see some guides on basics. Playdota and Dotafire guides are nice, but I think for a beginner it can be hard to translate the mechanics of particular heroes or items from text into game, seeing it on video helps the player visualize outcomes and mechanics better.

I'd love to see something dedicated to a true beginner like me. Most "noob guides" start out with terms like "carry," "lane," "hero/champion," and "feeding." Us beginners don't know what these things are. True, it's easy enough to find out if you look at a number of different guides (purge's guides have helped a ton), but some of my less persistent friends have turned away from Dota2 altogether because of this. Quick example, I looked at a guide to see what order I should purchase various items for my hero, but once I opened the store I realized I had no clue that I needed to right click the item to buy it, or where my inventory even was.

I've only been researching and playing for about a week now, and have no previous experience in any MOBA at all, so I can tell you that most newb guides are not designed for a true beginner. It seems to be something sorely missing from the scene. We could certainly use a homework style class that is organized in one place instead of scattered all across youtube and playdota. Something that offers a small amount of info each day along with an assignment or exercise for the newbie.

If I can be of any assistance, feel free to contact me and I'd be glad to help by offering up some newb questions.

Well, a nooby show would be good, but personally I'd like to see a show that's kinda medium high level, focusing on things like drafting, lane selection, etc. Higher level stuff. I think asking on this site, which has a generally higher level (and smaller for dota2) community may not be the best place to market a newbie show.

Personally, as someone who learns better with visuals, I wouldn't mind a video series of the common item builds and skill builds of every hero. While that is something I know I can find on playdota in their guides section I like the idea of having a place with a video of every hero and their common skill build/item choices. As I said this is just personal preference coming from someone who is a visual learner.

The problem with playdota.com guides is that ALOT of them are to old currently, and reading text after text gets VERY boring, i find visual and audial learning to a much more effecient way of getting into stuff.

Many written guides on playdota are outdated. However, it is pretty simple to update a written guide. You can't do so with video guides. Only create guides for general topics (warding, jungling etc., many pictures, many pew pew eye candy), not hero guides. They'd be outdated to fast. Lost time for you.

There needs to be the occassional hard nudge to remind people of the deficiencies in the areas they are trying to excel at. You can't always lay on the thick positive pep talk. The best music, speeches, etc have peaks and valleys, so does teaching.

Also id like to make discussions about being "The team leader" This is more a theory talk, since i believe not everybody can do it.

The best thing you could do is have a round table with people who have taken the catherder captain's role and just let them talk for 20 minutes.

This series is appreciated. I've been an avid Dota/HoN/Dota2 player for years and have been attempting to get my girlfriend into Dota 2, but have been finding precious few resources for beginners of the series. Every bit helps. Keep up the good work!
