No AoE. Weak pressure before big mana item (mostly glacial) Ultimate is pretty good but once carry get qss it is really weak. His damage is subpar compared to most popular bruisers. He is not bad but he is not bbq good.

Both have valid points except I disagree on the lack of damage and great initiation. I'd like to add that he gets really tanky with his passive and Q giving him a large HP pool he also tends to get lane control against most tops.
He is outshone by a number of tops like vlad or riven or rumble or kennen but they're kinda like ryze OP for ages that people forget about it. Except Guitarasaurus of course. |

No it doesn't. Ryze is already good at chasing because he has movespeed quints and movespeed masteries core on him. It is absolutely necessary to have to kill tanks and you really need the spell penetration since you don't even run Sorc Shoes most of the time or Abyssal. Now toss in his ult giving him a movespeed boost and Rylai's seems even more redundant for catching dudes. I would never build Rylais on Ryze unless the enemy team has flat out not built any MR and, somehow, don't do enough damage to force a warmogs. Also lol at only 33% damage increase. For a champion who shits out as much damage as Ryze that sounds like a pretty fucking core use of 1 slot. Assuming boots don't factor, 33% for 1/5th of your items is ABSURDLY efficient.
Void staff is really good, but at the time you get to build it its late game anyway and your ad carry will melt the tanks for you. With Rylais you can help him kite so well, its basically a permaslow. It really just depends on the teamcomps, how fed people are and what everyone else is building. The 6th item can be void staff, rylais, ga or warmogs (or something else if you have a good reason for it).
Q range nerf is gonna hurt so hard in laning phase, even with +20 base damage on it. I hope the ult movementspeed gets to make up for it a bit. |

don't have much to add other then to support twotone here, I'd rather go boots3(which I never would) than Rylai's on Ryze if chasedown was an issue (which is usually isn't)

Spectator mode is really well done, watching games from this perspective really gives you a different understanding of them.
Although I can't spot any bigpro names yet, I found Chrispy playing as Ryze to watch right now lol.

I really wish there was an adjustable delay for spec mode and mostly tournament matches. Kind of silly having a 3 minute delay at a live event such as IPL (remember when fans spoiled the game by cheering TSM because they could see the players celebrating while the games were still being played out on stream and the big screen?.)
