| I honestly believe it is a little ridiculous to try to take his rights away simply because he is populer. If he didn't have 5000+ viewers with every stream people would be fine with his words and his cursing. However, because he is a popular figure, people think that he should be censored. I find that a little stupid. While he doesn't say nice things, I fully believe he has the right to say those things. |

English isn't my mother tongue and I didn't even know the word 'gook' before.
But I can't help to feel like extensive use of stupid words 'defuses' them. Like when I hear 'nigger' I think of rap music and it sounds like 'bro' to me. If I called someone 'bastard' I wouldn't even think a split second of 'illegitimate children'.

Just like all the other threads, this is clearly some guy felling so offended that he needs revenge. I can see destiny got banned? what about warden? He could have settled this in a more grown up way, but he decided to be douche and trying to ruin as much of destiny life as possible. My opinion on this, is that quantic can do whatever they want with destiny, though they're probably not going to do anything about this. The first - and only - time I turned on Destiny's stream, he was swearing up a storm. Quantic got him regardless of that. It's their choice. |

Yes. This is actually to address the community at large, for the mistakes that 'You All Make, I Make, He Makes, and She Makes'. We as a community lately have been sucking. Very much. First, we need to stop our bashing. Our Caster Bashing, Our Player Bashing, Our Tourney Bashing, etc. We have just become one giant lynch mob, and I don't get it. We are going out of our way to potentially cause major issues to people's life. We are taking the 'rage moments' when a person loses and trying to use that to justify ruining a persons career, calling them rasicst, among other things. Some people rage overly bad, especially when they are alone in front of a computer. Just because they get mad, and BM you, possibly even using racist words. Doesn't make them a BM Racist in real life. And doesn't mean they should be lynched. Orb as an example, already had a reputation of being a great caster, and was up and coming, and we knew he was good at what he did and didn't BM/Racist/Do bad shit during his casts. Yet we chose randomly to lynch him for his ladder rage and set him back in his career by many months id imagine. Now Destiny is the same way, in the moment of the loss, he rages, and the pitchforks are brought out. I'm not saying either Orb or Destiny are in the right, but they shouldn't be judged based off Rage at the end of a match. It doesn't make them BM, and doesn't make them Racist.
Now apart from us needing to slow down on how fast were grabbing the pitchforks. We also need to take note of the best way to go about 'retribution' for want of a better word. In both of the situations I'm using as examples so far, Orb and Destiny, fans have emailed the sponsors. This is not a correct step, I understand the reasoning behind why you would, but this can 'hurt esports' in the long run. The reason I say this is because going to the Sponsors can cause 2 issues: Sponsors will lose interest in SC2 if they receive thousands of letters every time a player makes a mistake. Sponsors getting angry causes teams to over punish to make the sponsor happy. We also need to realize that these players don't represent their team/sponsor 24/7. They are representing themselves at times on occasion, it may not be often, but it does happen. They are allowed to be human. Just because I work a salary job at an IT place, doesn't mean my company is gonna get angry that i went drinking on my day off and had a 1 night stand. Any issues with a player/caster associated with a Team, should always be taken up with the Team first, if the Team cannot or will not fix the situation (sometimes its not a situation either), then go to the Sponsors. Sponsors should be last imo.

Why is it all about racial slurs? I do not personally beleve that the word nigger should be "banned" but if you want it like that then we could go one step further: Don't say "SUN" since people have died from skin cancer. This is just one example.
Why "ban" words when you can look at what they mean in that exact sentence... In Destinys case its clearly just a matter of rage and bm. Idra have said a lot worse things than "Gook" yet people have stopped trying to witch hunt him a long time ago.
Idra have said that word that can be connected to offending homosexuals for like the past 4000 years give or take.
"Faggot" is a much more "loaded" word (since the crimes against homosexuals have been far and beyond the crimes against blacks or asians as soon as you look outside of the US)and should ALWAYS be considered the word to avoid most of all. If you want to avoid using any word at all that is. |

If you are Vietnamese or Korean, and you are also the person that Destiny directed this "slur" to, I regret to inform you that being Vietnamese or Korean does not grant you immunity from having your feelings hurt. Whatever injustices that Vietnamese or Korean people may have suffered from the beginning of man all the way to today do not transfer to you. Whatever injustices that you as a Vietnamese or Korean person may have suffered from the beginning of your life to today were not perpetrated by Destiny, and so have no bearing whatsoever. In addition, being Vietnamese or Korean does not mean that anyone else in the whole entire world has to give a damn about you or your feelings.
If you are not gay, and are also not Vietnamese or Korean, then basically you tattled on someone. You were not and indeed could not possibly been hurt by his use of the word "faggot," and you were not and could not possibly have been hurt by his use of the word "gook," since you are neither gay nor are you Vietnamese or Korean.
Nobody has a right to not be offended. A person that intends to insult another will use whatever tool they can, whether its calling someone fat, gay, stupid, ginger, short, ugly, or any word that refers to ones gender or race or lineage.
I do not accept that the pain of past injustices suffered by any people somehow transfer onto people that have not faced those same injustices, and no, i do not believe that being called any name is even in the same ballpark as the actual, real suffering faced by peoples of all races at different times throughout history.
I believe every human being, just by virtue of its existence, deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, and if I could see any evidence that the OP was actually harmed by this then i would take a different stance, but from what i have seen there is nothing to make me believe that any harm was actually done.
And before anyone brings it up, no, i do not accept that words cause harm. If Destiny had called him a gook or faggot and then began encouraging people to commit acts of violence then it would be a different story. The OP was called names that have no more weight than any other insult, and as far as i can see it, he tattled on Destiny for it.
Who are you again? So now people can't have a right to be offended? If you have the right to be offensive I sure as hell should have the right to he offended. It's really cute how you talk about racism like its a thing of the past, like for some reason our ancestors have a right to be offended when insulted because of their race and we don't. The idea that words are just words baffles me. Words are how we communicate, we won't have nothing without a medium to express thought. Words are used to express anger, love, joy. Words are supposed to invoke an emotional response.

Ok I am a minority I have never been called a "gook" or whatever he said. I have been called names that people would consider to be very offensive. So why don't I get it?

My opinion on this, is that quantic can do whatever they want with destiny, though they're probably not going to do anything about this. The first - and only - time I turned on Destiny's stream, he was swearing up a storm. Quantic got him regardless of that. It's their choice.
Yeah, and it was barely at 20s when I went to school a couple of hours ago.
Destiny threads seems to always be fast moving. I think it is between Quantic and Destiny really. |
