No, it isn't. This way the player who is preparing vs P still plays vs. P. Everyone else will have time to prep vs him being T if he passes groups. Makes sense to me.

But it isnt like the substitute knows which group he will be seeded in, so the substitute couldnt prepare for a specific race as well. Thus forcing the substitute to play off race, would be two disadvantages at once: a) not playing the main race and b) playing against a opponent which had more time to prepare for the matchup.

Imho it would be better to just let them play their main races.

No, according to that, only the first match in the group is P. If he wins/loses that, he is allowed to play T for the winners/losers match in the group stage. From the original rules for substitutes, one would assume that if you substitute someone, you play their race the entire tournament.

In an ideal world there would have been more substitutes which would ease the subbing process by allowing a player of same race to sub in. The two factors you mention are definitely disadvantages, but there is nothing that can be done to really change any of that. Too many factors resulted in this outcome: people signing up but then not being able to play, the time at which they made this announcement, the amount of subs and their race... This is the best way to solve it fairly for the people who have been practicing their specific MU already. You can't just up and say "sorry hyominnie, you're playing vT instead of vP today."

Yes. That makes sense given the group at least - all the players in that group already had to or at least should have practiced vT except for MSJ who would have probably only play vs. P. This is still the best solution available - forcing someone to play P AFTER the ODT makes no sense whatsoever because the groups' results are impossible to predict that far ahead to know who would play who at Ro16. Therefore his race has no impact on the running of the Ro16, at least. Whether it would be more fair for him to play P for the entire ODT is debatable but what you propose certainly is not (plus, do we really need more P?).

Well, I just wished the rules were slightly clearer regarding subs, because if you read it as its written now, it does sound like you play the race you substitute the entire tournament.

I spoke to Dewski yesterday and he agreed to play his first match as a protoss.

Here is my tought process behind my decision:
-First, Dewski signed up before the sign-up was officially closed, over a week before the start of the tournament. He was busy with the DRTL finals (also Shuruken was but different players have different timings, maybe Dewski was concentrating 100% on finals and thats understandable).
- I was hoping more people would sign-up as a substitute.
-Subing him in group G (which happened to be the first group available when it was his turn on sub list), and forcing him to play protoss in his first game, IMO gives him enough of a handicap, together with him knowing his group and maps 2 day later than other people, to justify him playing out the rest of his group and tournament with his main race.
- In this particulare case players got to know 3 days beforehand the change of a player in their group, and bngo gets to play his original match-up.

This is the best, wanna be fair/balanced solution i could come up with. While i understand it is impossible to make everybody happy, decisions have to be made and i stand by my decision. Time will tell if it was a correct decision or not.

I am sorry rules are not 100% clear. I have been fixing this along as it comes, to try and provide players with a fun tournament where matches are played-out, trying also to avoid surprises for players.

Any furthur subs will be revised case-by-case, aldo with the Tournament being round the corner, people who are subing in now will have to play the race they are subbing in for, at least trough-out the group-stage, if not trough-out the whole tournament. Even so, they will still be for sure some walk-overs.

I mean If Dewski is confident about his abilities he should be fine.
Even if he loses offracing he still can win his games as Terran and advance 2-1.
I just hope BW gets the respect it deserves,

PLEASE READ!!

sGs.Puyi here. I have volunteered to help out pebble with the DRIT by helping him organize the reps and organize and rename them into spoiler free folders for him and any other caster/viewers that wish to download the rep and watch.

To make things easier:
1. Only winners need to send in the replay. If you win, it becomes your responsibility. Send it to DRITOURNAMENT@yahoo.com as soon as possible.
2. When emailing the rep, put your group letter (eg. Group A) as the subject.

@pebble444 Instead of me organizing half and you organizing half, I think I can handle all 8 groups. It shouldn't be too hard.

Nah squishy, you deserve it all the more for making C- ranks. You worked hard for that, and that should be rewarded, not punished. Play in this tourny. I wanna see you win. ^_^

Well if having reached C- disqualifies you from the tournament I'll forfeit. But atm im high D+ and only achieved C- by virtue of playing a lot of games and from the fact that wins net you more points than loses. I've beaten 1 or 2 C- players and lost around 20 games against them.

Here's all my history if anyone is curious and i don't play on other accounts.

My story is similar, having lost to the only 2 C- people I faced:

if the case of some of the people leaving groups we can merge the 2 smaller groups that had people leave it and with the extras we will use as subs as for i assume that the likely hood of all of us showing up is slim im just guessing also what time does this thing start tomorrow????

I'm confused. It's 8:42 EST right now, so 12:00 EST is in 3 hours. However it is 21:42 KST (according to TL), so 2:00 KST is in 4 hours?

Your post says 21:14 KST and you say +5 hours so... I'm going to guess it's the latter (2:00 KST according to TL) but I suggest you look into using the [.time] function because I had thought that this tournament started at noon all this time and made plans accordingly.

EDIT: Okay, it's all due to daylight savings, I see. Right now I'm in EDT timezone instead of EST. Sorry about that.

uhm right now here it is 14:46 CEST here. so there' s a 7 hour difference i guess. So its 12:00 EST i believe. 19:00 CEST.

19:00 CEST[local]

Edit: i tought so too that it started at noon EST. This daylight savings rellay messes timezones up
Edit2: 7 hours difference i guess in the summer (northern hemisphere), 6 hours in winter(northern hemisphere).
