"Downtempo (sometimes referred to as "chill out", "chill" or "downbeat") is a type of electronic music style similar to ambient music, but usually with a beat or groove. The tempo, as well as the drum patterns of each track can vary - Wikipedia
Summer is approaching and it's the best time for downtempo music. It's a wide genre, not necessarily mellow but it can be soft with a good beat. Not dance, but it can be fast paced. Something that plays in the background thats awesome. There are a lot of great tracks but they are hard to come by a second time. Share your favorite tracks and help people find new amazing music
If you are into this kind of music you should definately check out somafm. It's an internet radio completely free from ads and they run lots of different channels. My favorites are groove salad and beat blender.
I really liked the stuff you posted so far
Might aswell put up some classics/favorites, I think(hope) they are roughly the same genre anyways.
Im pretty happy that this thread exists. Downtempo is great chillaxing music, and Ive really been getting into it more recently. Anyone who likes chill mixes should check out one of my favorite DJs, a chick named CPI out of Seattle. She's got all her tracks up on her site thetastates. Not all her stuff is downtempo, but all her mixes labled "drummer beats" are super chill and will blow your mind.

Its a decent sized tracklist. I kind of busy with studying and all, and don't have time to link youtube videos, but I hope someone will feel motivated to do so.
There's lots of new and interesting electronic/down-tempo artists on there and it's updated regularly, it's been a really good source for finding new music.

I love CPI! I have posted her site here a couple of times already, it holds so much amazing stuff. If you like that you should definately check out www.astrangelyisolatedplace.com, it holds some amazing mixes. Start with Tripswitch, 36 and Parks (one of the best mixes ive ever heard)
I made The Psy- and Goa-trance thread a while back (shamless self-promo - it has a small subsection on Ambient/Psybient tho) and my experience with it was that things got really messy without spoilers. I suggest to you should include in OP that if people post more than two songs they should spoiler them. It makes reading the thread more enjoyable (and people dont spam when they have to work a bit for it)
Im more of an ambient guy but i can manage to find some chill with beats too:
Dub Trees ft. Ronnie Barrack - Celtic Sufi (Recovered Memory Syndrome Mix) + Show Spoiler +
Thats what i will contribute in the first post. Definitely check out the first and last track. If you like what you hear, give me a holler and i can suggest some more music.
Peace out
Edit: GinDo, if you like Ulrich Schnauss you should check out his amazing ASIP mix. In fact the site was named after one of his albums.
When it comes to downtempo you should look to Vienna, lots of great downtempo artists. One of my favorite is Tosca, consisting of Richard Dorfmeister (of Kruder&Dorfmeister fame) and Rupert Huber.
I absolutely love me some downtempo... Unfortunately I don't really know all too many artists in the genre, but the music in itself is wonderful.
Even though he isn't really downtempo, I always found an album by Justin K. Broaderick's project Jesu to be really chilled and almost downtempo-ish. It's called "Conqueror", and some of the songs are just so celestial and dreamy.
I listen to electronic music most of the time and I have heard of downtempo but was too ingorant in knowing which artists produce such music (save a few songs). Already enjoying the music posted here. Will regularly check this thread.
