I tried to play D3 over the beta weekend and I kept getting an error message about my video card not being supported. I don't really have the extra cash lying around to purchase a new card and was hoping that because the beta was kind of glitchy that maybe something was just not going right. I only tried to log on a few times and decided to give up.
So, I would appreciate if anyone could tell me if I would be able to play after purchasing the retail version if the game. Here are my specs:

| IIRC there will be a starter edition, kinda like a demo, that you can try for free and see for yourself. |

| 5670 is fine for D3, obviously it's not going to run on ultra but it'll be pretty smooth on medium or high since you're only using 1680x1050. Last edit: 2012-05-05 10:07:04 |

| You should put this type of thread in the technical support forum. But anyway, Radeon HD5670 is quite a weak and old card. Even if you are able to run the game, you wouldn't enjoy it. I suggest you upgrade your Graphic card, its quite cheap nowadays, with around $100 you will get a decent card that will last for sometime. |

| Contrary to what Caphe said, 5670 isn't that weak or old. Of course it's not a gaming card meant to play every game at near max settings at 1080p but it will have no problem running the majority of games on low to medium at 1680x1050. Upgrading from a 5670 to 5770 or 7750 (which are both $100 cards) is also a stupid waste of money. |

| catalyst 12.4 is not supported by diablo 3, though i dont see where in your informations posted its shown what version you use. maybe thats the problem...the card itself should certainly be sufficent to play the game at the very least. |

| That's very close to my wife's computer set up but she has a Radeon 4850 HD and she ran the beta at 1920x1200 near max settings just fine, one of the perks of d3 using 2004graphics you don't have to buy a new comp to play it. |

How about my rig:
CPU: Intel Core Duo 2.8 Ghz (E8300) Ram: 3 GB (actually 4, but WinXP 32bit only seems capabale of adressing 3) Graphics Card: Radeon HD 4850, 1GB DDR3 (This one). OS: Windows XP, 32bit (yes I'm still on XP =)
Just to give you a rough Idea: I can run Starcraft 2 just fine in single player in 1000x1024 - However, 400 supply battles only run smooth in 1024 x 768. I also ran Deus Ex 3 in 1000x1024 without any problems.
I was about to start a similar thread, but I suppose I can just as well hijack this one after the OP's question has been answered. I preordered D3, so Once it arrives I wanna be able to run it. I wasn't able to play any of the beta so I'm kind'a worried it may not run on my rig after all.
Any input = greatly appreciated. Thy in advance!

http://www.geforce.com/games-applications/pc-games/diablo-3/system-requirements Should be no problem. Your gear even qualifies for "Recommended System Requirements"(A bit lack on graph card).

@OP you mustn't get the latest Catalyst control center (12.4). It isn't supported by D3 (yet). Your pc is good enough lol.

edit: and why don't people just read the system specifications O_o you'll see immediately, most of the people are above them. (I'm too lazy to link them myself, but they're already made official.)

My rig is E8400 3.0GHz 4GB DDR2 Radeon HD 4850 512MB
And the open beta ran at ~38fps on High settings 1080p. So I would imagine yours would do pretty well too. |

Notebooks are not made for gaming, but Diablo 3 looks really ugly and you can play it without problem. Maybe not with 16x CSAA and 32x AF on Ultra, but on Medium/High at least.
My rig is E8400 3.0GHz 4GB DDR2 Radeon HD 4850 512MB
You can overclock your E8400 to 3.6GHz without any problems if you got a "Revision: E0" Version. Got the same CPU and it runs on 3.6GHz for ~2 years without a problem. ♥E8400 E0 ;D |

The same error message came up with my old pc on my 9800 card and I knew this card should have been able to run the game on at least low. I ended up checking around the beta forums and found out it was a bug in the beta and I just had to hit escape to get past that error and the game would launch. If I were to venture a guess I would say your card had the same issues seeing as a 5670 should be able to run D3 fine as long as your processor doesn't blow balls.
Also make sure your drivers are always updated. |

| Sc2 requirements are much higher than D3, so if your comp can handle a 200vs200 supply sc2 battle it can handle anything D3 will throw at you. |

The main difference is that SC2 is much more punishing on the CPU compared to graphics card, whereas D3 is much heavier on graphics than CPU. Given that 95% of computers will bottleneck on graphics before GPU, they will likely have more trouble with D3 than SC2.
That said, even a mobile 5670 should be fine if you don't mind turning down some settings. I'm on a 6630M which I think is the same actual chip (or very similar) and I can play with no issues at low, 1600x900 (or with framerate drops at 1920x1200). |

Dont worry, its a known issue for ATI cards (which you have), which I had too. The latest drivers, 12.4 are not supported for now. Your computer is more than enough. You must uninstall your drivers and install the 12.3 drivers. WARNING: IN CASE YOU ARE NOT IN 12.4 AND JUST USE A VERY OLD DRIVER JUST INSTALL 12.3, IN THAT CASE JUST DO STEPS 0, 3, 4 (skip the uninstallation).
Do the following in preparation for the 15th:
Step 0: Since you have windows 7 64bit go to: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/previous/12/Pages/radeon.aspx?os=Windows%20Vista%20-%2064-Bit%20Edition&rev=12.3 And download the catalyst 12.3 suite. Wait for step 3.
Step 1 (only if you have installed 12.4 (latest version)): Uninstall your graphic drivers: Control Panel > System and security > Device Manager > Display Adapters (right click and select uninstall)
Step 2 (only if you have installed 12.4 (latest version)): Reboot your computer
Step 3: Use what you downloaded, follow instructions.
Step 4: It may asks you to reboot or a reboot may be required to make it work
Done. Launch beta, see if you still get the error.Last edit: 2012-05-06 06:06:07 |
