Code A is truly a bizarre tournament. The reason I say this is due to the fact that the entire basis of this tournament is to secure yourself a Code S spot. Playing one tournament in order to get to another can leave a sense of a lack of glory to be had in Code A, with no shiny trophy to hold at the end, and no big prize money. Code A is still amazing though, the downright pressure and the variety of players we get to see in Code A is a great recipe for some amazing games. Now that we are in the Ro32, where some very big names have fallen down to Code A, things are really starting to heat up. Let's take a look at what's in store for us in the 2012 GSL Season 2 Code A Ro32:

3rd places from Code S groups:
ST_Virus
 MYMMVPGenius
FXOLeenock
ST_July
MaruPrime
SK.MC
MarineKingPrime
oGsTheStc

So here we have the players that messed up the least thus far in 2012 GSL Season 2, and while they did mess up, they do get a great chance to return to Code S by being directly seeded into the Ro24. I'm sure all of these guys will be watching and waiting intently for their next opponent, hoping, and maybe praying for a match up that they are comfortable with. Many names on this list surprise me, but considering who some of them had to play in Code S Ro16 it is totally understandable to see them knocked down a peg. When I look at this list of players and who they will be facing, it is interesting to see that MarineKing might have been given the easiest path into a Code S rebirth. He's always such a difficult player to predict and has been playing so well in the last couple of months, so I feel he already had a great chance to make it back into Code S anyways. MarineKing will await the winner of Lure vs. YuGiOh, and no disrespect to those two players, but when we compare that to MC waiting on the winner of GanZi vs. Polt, well, you can see what I'm getting at. Either way, it is worth repeating that this list of players has been given a great shot at returning to Code S, as they only have to win one match to do so. These guys will rest up and we'll see them in the Ro24, now on to the less fortunate.

4th places from Code S groups:
NSH_Jjakji
IMSeed
IMNesTea
SlayerS_MMA
Liquid`Zenio
ST_Curious
SlayerS_Ryung
oGsFin

Taking last place in your Code S Ro16 group can be devastating, but luckily the players in this list are given a slight chance at a road to redemption beginning with a seed into the Code A Ro32. It is interesting to note that many of these players were favorites in their Code S group, so hopefully for them they can shake off whatever it was that happened during their group stage matches. The spotlight here belongs to Jjakji, Nestea, and MMA, each having won a GSL before. Now, while it is hard to imagine any of these players in the Up & Down matches, this particular Code A Ro32 is quite insane and it will prove difficult for NesTea and MMA in particular. If MMA and NesTea win their respective matches (a sincere likelihood) they will be forced to face off in the next round for a Code S spot, which is tough luck for both former champs, but it should prove to be a great match for us. I'm quite sympathetic for this group of players, they have it so rough in my opinion. They fall straight out from the Code S safety net and into the Code A pit of madness.

Spotlight match-ups:

NSH_Jjakji vs. EG.JYP

JYP has received plenty of criticism for his PvT throughout his career, and honestly, in my opinion, it is really the thing that has kept him from becoming an absolute top-tier Protoss. Now when I say JYP has PvT troubles, I really mean it. JYP has only won one match against a Terran in the GSL with an overall PvT record of 1-14. Even more bad news is on the way for JYP, as Jjakji is a great TvP player and, as I previously mentioned, is a former GSL champion. Do not underestimate JYP, however, as he is still a top player and is currently in decent form. I would expect some sort of all-in from JYP in at least one game this series, but maybe Jjakji will think the same. Expect to see Jjakji take this series in a possible 2-1.

oGsFin vs. coL_Killer

Fin's hyped entrance into the GSL has cooled down significantly after a few tough rounds in Code S. Fin can be a very aggressive player, and he is known to use multiple styles in each match-up, so Killer will not have an easy time preparing for his former BW pro compatriot. These two have met before, in the Up & Down matches, where Fin was able to secure a Code S spot over Killer, so Killer will have revenge in his mind. This is a tough one to call between two very experienced players but I really like the way Fin plays BOX matches, with a mixture of aggressive play and solid, standard play. I see Fin taking this one 2-1.

SlayerS_MMA vs. ZeNEXLine

Oh boy Line, you have a tricky one ahead of you. Now, I haven't seen much of Line outside of this season of GSL, but even if I were Line's brother I'd still have to objectively say that he is a massive underdog in this match. MMA is a former GSL champion, and his TvZ in the GSL is at a staggering 15-3. Who were the 3 players he lost to, you ask? Oh, just NesTea, Leenock, and DRG. Yeah. Line might also be entering this match a bit cold, as his first round opponent, Boxer, was forced to forfeit his match due to injury. I wish I could say more in Line's defense, but look for this to be a 2-0 in MMA's favor.

IMNesTea vs. MYMMVPKeeN

NesTea is currently part the reason that Keen is in Code A. Last season these two met in the Code A Ro24 where NesTea handled Keen 2-0. Now here they meet again, but this time in the Ro32. Keen's chances are going to be slim here if NesTea is in form, and lately, NesTea has been looking pretty good. The three-time GSL champion was barely knocked to Code A as it is, and he has never been in the Up & Down matches. Keen will be hard pressed to take this series, and I expect another 2-0 in favor of NesTea here. A reminder: If NesTea wins here, it sets up the very likely possibility of a MMA vs. NesTea Ro24 match, which is basically a finals-tier match-up for a Code S spot. Very exciting.

ST_Bomber
coL_GanZI

coL_Killer
SlayerS_Puzzle

SlayerS_YuGiOh
MYMMVPDRG
BBoongBBoongPrime
EG.JYP
MYMMVPKeeN

Success can be so fickle at times, just ask child stars and the players in this list. All of these players have made Code S appearances in the past, in fact, many of these players have gone quite deep into Code S. These war-torn veterans want nothing more than to be saved from the dredges of Code A, so I expect some intense games out of a lot of these guys. It's somewhat obvious that the player of interest in this list is DRG. DRG was defending his GSL championship this season, and he is the reigning MLG champion to boot. I thought I had accidentally taken LSD or something when I watched him get knocked into Code A because I really couldn't believe it. DRG has sort of been on a tear since (again, MLG Spring Arena champion), so do not be surprised if you see him grabbing a Code S spot at the end of this tournament. The games from this the group of players will be what I'm anticipating most in the ro32, it will be exciting to see if those who have tasted that glory of Code S before will be able to return after enduring a long Code A season.

MYMMVPDRG vs. ST_AcE

This match is very interesting, and I'm really excited to see how these games play out. It's really nice seeing AcE back in the GSL. His play is so clean and well-executed when he is on, but he struggled a bit in his series against JookTo, so we will have to see what he does against the best Zerg (arguably the best player) in the world. DRG's ability to eviscerate Protoss players will be remembered from his play last season, and it seems to me that his ZvP is his best match-up these days (especially considering that he was knocked down to Code A by some Terrans). AcE can struggle in this match-up as I have said before, but he definitely has what it takes to take down DRG if he isn't in top form. I see DRG taking this one 2-1.

coL_GanZi vs. TSL_Polt

Polt was barely able to snag a TvT victory over a player who would usually be overlooked as an easy win for a former champion like Polt, which is a bit concerning when entering a mirror match against a TvT player like GanZi. GanZi didn't have a cakewalk in the Ro48 either, sneaking by GuineaPig 2-1 in some interesting games. GanZi and Polt are the types of players who seem to grab wins out of thin air, and I've seen either of them thrive in the both the chaotic style, or the patient tank wars style of TvT. I think the pressure is on Polt here though, as he has been known to struggle in TvT in the past, also having recently losing to Thorzain very convincingly during the Dreamhack finals. This has the potential to be a very close, very long series of TvT games, and I think GanZi will walk out of here 2-1.

Liquid`Zenio vs. ST_Bomber

Bomber's return to the GSL this season has been great to watch, I sort of missed watching a Terran max out in 14 minutes. Bomber's crazy macro style is going to prove a tough trial for Zenio here. ZvT is Zenio's worst match-up, and he has been very well known to go all-in with various busts a lot of the time when he plays Terrans. This could play into Bomber's hands as he already has a style that primarily just sits back and defends, so if Zenio has an all-in or two planned I would certainly hope for it to be really clever or really well executed. I foresee a 2-1 Bomber win in this match.

oGsVINES vs. FXOGuMiho

I would think that it must be hard to be a GuMiho fan. The guy plays on a razor's edge, and he's a bit streaky. Some would blame his heavy multitask oriented style for this, and they might be right. That being said, GuMiho is a difficult player to play against for similar reasons, and if he's playing well it is amazing to watch what he is capable of pulling off with that APM. Now, as for VINES, he really impressed me with his win over Lucky, who was the favorite in that match for sure. VINES' PvT is also very good, we've seen him take down the likes of MarineKing, Maru, and MMA before. This will be another close one, and while I like how VINES is playing right now, you can't count out an unpredictable player like GuMiho, who I think will take this series 2-1.

ST_Hack
oGsVINES
TSL_Symbol
MYMMVPSniper
CreatorPrime

The final list of players here have never made a Code S appearance. While you may recognize some of these guys from the GSTL and other tourneys, none of them have been able to make it through the grind of Code A yet. It is easy to see why if you look at what a lot of these players have ahead of them as well: Line faces off against former champ MMA, Hack has to somehow beat aLive in TvT, Sniper plays against ZvZ mastermind Curious, and all of this factors in before they then have to brave the monsters that await them in the Ro24. All hope is not lost, however, as there are some very formidable players here that I have to mention. AcE has won an IEM World Championship and can definitely use his experience from that to pull out some big wins. Also, Symbol is performing well in the stacked Iron Squid tournament and can use that momentum to his advantage. If any of the players in this list somehow read this article, heed these words: One game at a time, focus, and definitely don't look at that next round bracket.

coL_Heart vs. BboongBBoongPrime

This is one of the hardest matches to call in the Ro32. While I would say that Heart has proven himself more in the international scene, BBoongBBoong has done the converse by remaining primarily in Korea and the GSL. BBoongBBoong has more BOX match experience, and great ZvT statistics in the GSL with a 10-3 record. However, Heart is a very solid player, and as I have said, has had a lot of tournament experience by playing so many online cups and so much internationally. BBoongBBong has never really impressed me in the clutch, so I'm going to follow my heart here (puns are fun) and say Heart takes this one in a close 2-1.

fnatic.aLive vs. ST_Hack

aLive is one of my absolute favorite players to watch, especially when he plays TvT. Not too long ago, Artosis mentioned that aLive could very well be the best TvT player in the world, which is great, as one generally has to play against a lot of Terrans in the GSL. aLive certainly showed us some amazing TvT last season, tearing down Happy, GuMhio, and MMA on his way to the Code S Ro4.. Unfortunately for Hack, he doesn't have a lot going for him here. He did make a mess of HuK in the Ro48 though, which is no easy task, so perhaps he has what it takes for an upset here, but I would not be surprised if we see aLive take this one 2-0.

SlayerS_Puzzle vs. CreatorPrime

Puzzle will be looked at as the favorite in this match-up, but we all know the volatile environment that exists in the world of PvP. Puzzle took a very close loss to NaNiwa in Code S Ro32 on his way to an 0-2 in that group, so Creator at least has some games to study. Creator is a young gun, only 15 years old, and his lack of experience is probably the reason he will be looked at as an underdog here. Though, neither of them had a particularly easy time in the Ro48, and this really has the potential to go either way in my eyes. I think we'll see a 2-1 Puzzle victory in the end.

IMSeed vs. TSL_Symbol

Symbol's recent performance in the Iron Squid tournament has really turned some heads and gained him some notoriety as a very high level player, however, this is a BOX match he is about to enter, not an online event, and he has to play against recent Code S dropout Seed. Seed was barely knocked out of his Code S group, and he is usually a very stable player, so Symbol might have his work cut out for him. It's important not underestimate momentum though, and Symbol has a lot of that going for him at the moment. His ZvT has been showcased a lot recently, so I'm not entirely sure where Symbol's ZvP stands, but his overall play lately has shown some decent confidence. This is going to be close, but I am going to jump on that Symbol bandwagon and say 2-1 Symbol here.

This is just a small glimpse into the world of Code A, tune in to GomTv.net on Tuesday, May 8th for the first set of matches in the 2012 GSL Season 2 Round-of-32. After the Ro32 wraps up I'll be back for a full set of predictions for the Ro24, see you then!

How do you think both of them have started doing stuff here ? Just because someone else does it, doesn't mean another can't do it.

So if Nestea meets MMA in the Ro24 does one of them drop to code B or does the loser go to up and downs?
Because one of those guys in code B would be mental

No, winner goes to ro24 where they fight of a spot directly to Code S. Loser in both ro32 and ro24 goes to Up'n'down for next season!
