Its only real use in town's hands is a ballsy person who thinks they can hit scum early and often, or if the player with it acts as pawn for the rest of the town (i.e. uses the cpr doc as a second lynch - which is fraught as well but has some potential upside). It is however a great scum role, especially if no one knows who has it. If it's pick #1, and pick #2 is roleblock, then like I and toad said #2 roleblocks the cpr doc, and the doc can confirm that he was roleblocked, meaning both of those roles are locked down unless we decide to use them later on for some reason. CPR Doc would work well in town hands if we have a lot of discussion down D1. It would at least give them enough analysis to make an educated guess and act on it.

So how about this, we deny the role by having CPR on the the pick list, and then we have the assigied RBer RB em till we are sure of alignment. Should the first lynch drop vanilla, we Doc the CPR so copycat becomes a non issue. The only hole with this plan is if both the roleblocker and CPR end up in Mafia hands, whitch is highly unlikely. What if mafia gets RB but not CPR?

Protection roles are every bit as valuable as information or killing roles. You shouldn't only be looking to take medic/jailkeeper if you are low on the list. If you are higher on the list and feel comfortable with the role, or you are worried that the role will not be picked/ the role will be sniped early, grab it higher up! Having those roles in the game is very important for continuing to slow down the night killing. They are not low-tier roles. Agreed. Personally I'm really comfortable playing as Doc, and if I'm not one of the top five (haven't played a power role in forever so I'm interested in those as well) I might snatch that or jailkeeper up.

Anyweiz, I'm wondering how good a doctor/jailkeeper would be for mafia. Seems like a really interesting concept, at least for blocking SK's shots. And JK would have a field day with all the blues.

I could see politician as a big player when the numbers are next to even. Or if a scummy-looking town is pulled to vote for a town candidate. Actually people can create a lot of havoc with that, claiming politician changed their vote.

I think jailkeeper would be odd though in the early game. Since generally you'd have a greater chance of blocking a blue than a red until we have a good picture of who everyone is. It's like shooting someone in the foot and then patching up the wound. The flip side to this is being able to roleblock the SK's bulletproof and having vigs/CPR/mafia take him out.

Next question - Why would Hider be an important defensive role? From my point of view it seems like an information role or a role that defends others would be much more important. The only use I could see for Hider is an active/veteran player being able to voice his opinions without getting shot.
