I hope HotS is a good expansion in addition to all these things
For instance if it turns out we're just paying for all these features and the new units are terrible / the game remains the same I won't be all that happy

Awesome! Like others I didn't expect quite this much at the same time. Although these feature should've been in at the start of the game and whether they held it off on purpose with intent to raise public view of them after it goes down, there really is no choice other than to be happy. We were all going to buy HotS on 1 copy anyways.

I would hope they would also add: - Custom Spectator/Replay cameras (would love to be able to zoom out a little more for bigger battles) - Map Triggers working in replays.
Unranked matchmaking might finally get me back to playing the game. Sometimes I just want to goof around and try wacky things. Most of the time I don't want to play seriously and just have some fun. This will be perfect for those times.
This is what bnet 2.0 *SHOULD* have been from the start.
Resume from replay is nice, but still can't compare to SC1 LAN for real tournaments.

I think blizzards goal with both SC and SC2 was always to try and make it reasonably balanced, so I have to give them the benefit of the doubt that Hots will be a worthwhile expansion. Obviously at the beginning somethings going to be a bit unbalanced, but they'll get it right eventually through tweaks I believe.
Then again I'm one of those that believe the game is pretty balanced at the moment

The reason is that most people actually paid for this game, some of them many times over since they wanted to play on other servers, unlike where Blizzard apparently just "gave" you the game
