Funny because he's actually said "I believe marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Now, for me as a Christian, it’s also a sacred union." Barack Obama, 2008
Yeaaaaaa! Say one thing, do another. I'm not surprised, literally almost everything hes said, hes done the opposite.
However on the issue itself, gays should be able to marry, I just don't like people who lie and change their mind over and over, continually, while hes supposed to be a leader, no no... the President.

This is how I look at it, yes it will hurt his chances with the right. But they were mostly likely going to vote for Romney anyway. The gay community as a whole is extremely activity in terms for protests and campaigning for their rights. Obama has earned the support of the entire gay community with this statement and you can beat a ton of them will be campaigning for him now because of it.

You aren't allowed to change your mind? If you actually watch the interview he talks about how he's thought about it for a long time.

He can change his mind all he wants, but I highly doubt it's for the right reasons, thats why I dislike it. This is for votes, since like someone else said, most of the people who oppose it won't be voting for him anyway.

Most likely his first "change of mind" was to be against it to get elected... Because you guys are so religiously influenced over there that his campaign managers probably tought he had to.

God that hurts so fucking bad to read. I'm sure there are irrational things people complain about in other countries too, but sometimes, it feels like it's a lot worse here. Most of the time.
Part of me kind of wants to bounce to another country after I graduate but realistically I know it's not much of an option for me at the moment.
I didn't mean to offend you or any Americans if that's why it hurts to read. I was just asking what this would do for his chances considering America as a whole looks like it's less open to this subject than say, the Netherlands or Scandinavia as seen from the outside.

How many people do you suppose support gay marriage, and are now switching from ROMNEY to Obama because of this? I'd say most of the people who support this move by Obama would be Obama voters anyway.
I think this is certainly not for votes. I think he risks losing a lot of his black Christian support on this.

That's still bad to be flip flopping because you want votes, where are his values? ... the point Im trying to make. A President who's going to say things just for a boon in his ratings is eh. Yea, a lot do it, but I'm just saying this is not a good quality, publicly announcing your views one way, then going against it, over and over and over. Nobody knows where this guy truly stands on half this stuff for that reason. He gets reelected, whats he going to change his mind when if 52% of the people are against it? lol

no, not a lot do it. EVERYONE DOES IT. thats why democracy is kinda stupid because the majority of voters cant see past all the bullshit that is spread around by the media and the election campaings.
My understanding was that this was his view the whole time. I don't really think saying you are supporting something is very important unless you actually do it. Obama has said a lot of things he hasn't done, and if he is waiting the ending discrimination act to go through congress, good luck with that.

Pragmatism is a very hard concept for most people to stomach and Obama is the ULTIMATE pragmatist. He is a brilliant, composed, well-informed and progressive egomaniac. He want to accomplish the absolute maximum he can for the American people while he still holds the office. Does this mean he needs to play some politics? Of course. Id be very surprised though if this has not been on his list for a long time. As long as I have been alive I have never seen such a thoughtful and deliberate president.

It's a bad quality everybody running for president has. It's part of having a democracy, and the American system (with the 2 party system and the primaries especially) promotes "flip flopping" even more. Ofcourse in an ideal world it doesn't happen, but getting upset over it with Obama (and not with any of the other candidates) seems a bit hypocritical.
Kinda funny how same sex marriage is still an issue in the country of "freedom". Maybe not a great move from a political point of view, but has a human being, its a logical thing to support. Obama, fuck yeah!

This really show that he stands behind this. And he will also get some new supporters.

Maybe you should use a few less caps but a bit more punctuation. What exactly are you trying to "just say"? That Obama Flip Flops? Honestly if a politician is not allowed to change his mind within a decade you might as well elect a computer. He could follow pre set rules as well.
Frankly I welcome a well thought out interview where someone can explain how and why he has changed his mind, and what his new position is. Compared to 99% of the drivel presented by todays media this interview is both in-depth and clear.
Personally I have no problems with same-sex marriages, but I must admit I am not very religious and most of my relatives only married in a civil union anyway...

Although he's probably trying to get newer-generation voters to the polls to vote for him since the younger generation isn't voting as much, and something like this just might do the trick.

It is astonishing as a Canadian that America, a country that prides itself on preserving liberty and freedom, would deny a basic, harmless civil right to a demographic of its own citizens.
You realize our Prime Minister would ban same-sex marriage if he could, right?
