Obama announces support for same-sex marriage

Today Colin Powell said that he supports same-sex marriage.

Powell's always been among the more liberal Republicans on social issues, nonetheless he's a man who's widely respected in this country and his support can only help the cause.

its really hard to define unalienable rights.

i'm pretty sure none of our founding fathers even imagined this would be an issue in the future... it's not as clear cut as you make it seem like.

The issue is very clear. One side supports something that hurts people, the other side supports something that has no effect on anyone but gay people.

If it isn't, then why not let gay people marry? I don't think being against gay marriage necessarily makes you a bigot (but very easily could), but it does make you homophobic. I can't fathom a single reason in my head that wouldn't count as being homophobic.

Best part about this is to see someone in power who's views are capable of changing and evolving. So many politicians will stick completely to one point of view regardless of how much changes around them or are too afraid of being called a flip flopper to admit they made a mistake.
