I have the same issue as him. It says I have version 1.6, but still has it as red. I found somewhere that I'm technically at patch number 1.587 or something like that.
I'm downloading their latest patch now, will update if it works.

Yep, downloading the latest patch on their website makes it work. I bought from amazon too.
I've mostly just scrounged around on my own, but I'd love to team up with anyone from europe. Feel free to send me a forum PM if you're in europe and want to team up. It would also be awesome if we could get a proper group going, somehow.

Ahh I did the same thing. The Amazon game automatically updated and said I was at 1.6, clearly its not the case. Thank you much

huehue hilarious, funny how hard it is to find where the fuck you are without the modern standard minimaps and shit ^_^
You can find a map by googling it, then you look around for any landmarks in the terrain, forks in the road, and road signs etc to get your bearings. You can find map and compass in game but they are fairly rare I think. I've yet to find one but I know where I am by using the above method. In the night you can navigate by the stars and so forth.

That is the link the most detailed map of Chernarus.
The wiki it is hosted on: www.dayzwiki.com provides loads of information from weapon stats to vehicles. This must the only mod I have ever bought a game for. It's absolutely worth the investment
Keep in mind that when you are logged off, the game still makes you use your water and food reserves. So if you are logged out for too long you will log in both starving and dying of thirst. This is quite a silly mechanic in my opinion and may be unintentional for all I know. There are talks about making water/food consumption way slower when logged off on the official forums, but nothing for certain yet.
Correction: The game doesn't make you actually expend the resources, however the timer on thirst/hunger still ticks down while offline, so if you're logged off for a day or so you log back in starving and dying of thirst. So I'd suggest always being stocked up on water and food if you plan on being away for a little bit from the game. I'm not sure if you actually can die if you're logged off for too long.

This game is ridiculously hard. I died like 10 times before I figured out how to get anywhere without getting swarmed instantly (getting dumped near the coast at night when you have no idea what you're doing is really unforgiving). I even got pked at a spawn point. Finally got somewhere and managed to scavenge some pepsis, found a tent, even found some ammo (for a gun I don't have, of course). But I keep running out of ammo and dying before I find anything too interesting. I was pretty proud I was able to kill 17 zombies before going down, and scout out a whole lot of buildings.
After reading around my problem is probably sticking around the coast, where there's a bunch of buildings, but very few of them have doors that you can open, and even fewer have resources that will help you. I have a decent grasp of the mechanics of the game now, so things should get a little more interesting.
Oh also, sneaking around to get into buildings is pretty fun- up until you inadvertantly make a crapton of noise climbing up some stairs and every zombie in a 100 foot radius comes at you. <_<
Your best bet is to stay out of the larger cities until you have the firepower to take down whatever zombies might try to get to you. Cities and especially military camps are where many bandits lurk in wait for easy prey as well. When travelling, keep any road at a certain distance, preferably walk among trees or vegetation and never keep to the open if you can help it.
Sometimes you can glitch while crawling if you happen to crawl into an object, making you stand upright.

I really don't think that's true. I have logged off for hours(like 20) and have not been dying when logging back in or in fact had my food or drink meter changed at all. Maybe your thing is just a glitch.

Ok I have been having so much trouble installing this mod, been working on it for 4-5 hours now. I get everything (including patch 1.60) up to date and I (think) I get all the files in the right folders but I still get an error message when joining a server. It says something like "file not signed, Charnarus.bpo". I think it has something to do with how Operation arrowhead and ArmA II are installed separately, maybe I just screwed it up when I was messing around with files. Right now im reinstalling and im gonna try to follow the steps again to get it working again, if that doesnt work im gonna come back here and beg for help. Bought from Amazon by the way.

It's true, there's a lot of people complaining about it on the Day Z forums.
