| Every time I join a server I spawn in the middle of the ocean with no land in sight and am pretty much stuck until I drown. Then I respawn on the edge of the map and have to walk 45+ minutes to reach anything :/ |

Cool, i wanted to make this thread like a week ago but cba. Installing the mod and general stuff: + Show Spoiler + High-rez map with some landmarks: + Show Spoiler +
In general, just don't whine about stuff like balance and people being mean. This game is not meant to be balanced and is still in alpha, rocket will and should do whatever he feels like.
Oh and some other notes: Direct comms is broken, but when fixed it'll be fucking sweet, things like your voice traveling further the way your facing and stuff like that. Voice chat is breaking servers right now, best refrain from using that. In my experience when you're facing the waiting for server response for longer than a couple minutes, it's better to just go find another server, getting in or not is somewhat luck-based. Look through your keybindings real quick before you start playing, the arma 2 ui isnt that intuitive but you'll figure it out quickly enough.Last edit: 2012-05-19 23:07:41 |

If you bought the amazon (or any non-steam version) version on Windows 7:
First of all, patch your game. When you are done with the installation Amazon gives you, you are on patch 1.5.9, not 1.6 which Day Zed requires. You can do that here
Now, your game is saved to /Program Files/ not your (x86) folder. In there, unlike steam, it will ONLY be called "ArmA II" not "Operation Arrowhead", do not worry. When you go in there, do not make the mistake of then putting the mod folders in the "Expansion" folder. You need to put the @dayz folder in the ROOT DIRECTOR of C:/Program Files/ArmA II so that when you're done it looks like C:/Program Files/ArmA II/@dayz/addons
Once you got all the stuff in the addons folder there, get this launcher and open it. Set the paths to your ArmA II exe and your OA exe when it asks. On the bottom right select "ArmA II: CO", check "Play Online", and the most important part: drag the @dayz from the left, and drop it on the right
It should look like this:
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/55LmI.jpgI)
Now, go under Launch Options. I am now going to reduce a shit ton of loading time lag for you, this is not necessary to do though. But highly recommended. Just check "No Splash Screen" and check "Default World" and select "Empty" on the drop down list to the right. Now you're ready! Just click "Start Game" and the game will launch. On the main menu you should see a "@dayz" somewhere on the right side, and you should be able to connect to games. These settings on the launcher are saved of course.
My friend has the game on Steam and he also uses this launcher with it, so it MAY work as well if you just put the files in the "Operation Arrowhead" folder in Steam and then just do everything else. It honestly was much faster than doing the shit in the millions of guides I saw around, and it's worked for me so yeah
EDIT:

Remember. Sun rises in the East, sets in the West. That means, if it's the afternoon and you're looking directly at the sun, you are facing west. Therefore if you turns left, you are facing South, and right, North. South and East bring you to shorelines.
Hope that helped.Last edit: 2012-05-19 23:21:51 |

You have to bandage yourself. Do so by scrolling your middle mouse button and selecting the item on your context menu. You may have bandages in your backpack if they aren't already in your inventory to use. To regain blood, eat food. Cold food gives you 200, cooked 800. Otherwise, you need blood transfusions. |

I want to gauge peoples interest in playing this game together, Im going to make a teamspeak TL user channel later today and I want to know how many people are interested in surviving and exploring together :D
Post here if you want to run around a post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland scavenging for rare and valuable resources needed to survive another day while avoiding a myriad of environmental hazards, with other TL'ers :DDD |

This mod doesn't seem to have all that great replay value yet to buy a game I've never even heard of and which seems to have simply awful gunplay. Maybe in the future when it gets refined more.
I mean seriously, what you gonna do once you're somewhat familiar of the place, it's just going for the item spawn locs till you get your gear set and then...??? get shot in the back by bandit. There's no aim or goal for this yet.
Awesome start, but still too early in the development for me to fork in money for.Last edit: 2012-05-20 00:54:16 |

It's the same reason people play STALKER.
Guess what, the interaction with the world, the people in it, and the general shit you get to do is fun for some people.
If there was ever a game that signified the phrase "Not for Everybody", it's this one. |

| That and the fact the map is fucking HUGE. Like..as big if not close to being as big as Skyrim. I personally never played the original game so I don't know town names or anything. All this considering, the adventure aspect is going to be there for quite a while. Since I don't have a map I constantly have to tab out and figure out where I am =D |

Skyrim isn't even fucking close to ArmA maps dude. Not even close.
And like I said, it's not so much the exploring. We know what we're going to get. It's the interaction with the world, the scavenging and the roleplay that so seamlessly comes into it without even trying. Meeting up with people, forming bands and shit. They've already spoken about plans to let players build towns and secure them, create factions, and all that fun stuff. This isn't the type of game for people who need an objective to do something. I've played STALKER games through and through, and know ins and outs of the map and game but I still find it fun to wander and explore. Because there are gamers like me who flourish in games where you aren't told where to go or that has a beginning and an end, and this game signifies everything about that.
Again, "Not for everyone" shines the most in this mod. I know plenty of people, if not a majority would find what you do in this mod the most boring thing in the world. However, I personally and many people I know love this shit.Last edit: 2012-05-20 02:36:29 |

| Just found some hangar/military base place in the far west somewhere (I think) found binoculars and a flashlight but then I got attacked by zombies and disconnected. It said I had saved 60 seconds ago so I hope I'm not dead or something when I log back in later tonight Last edit: 2012-05-20 02:52:17 |
