Introduction
First of all, I'm sad to say that this only concerns the Swedish portion of this fine community. I will still keep this post in English for everyone to read and take a part of. If you have any feedback, good or bad, please feel free to comment in this thread. If you completely wants to rain on our parade and bash this idea, you can do that as well! We appreciate all the input we can get.
Q: Who are you and what is Doed?
+ Show Spoiler +I'm ClockWise, formerly admin at sc2sverige.se and essv.se, from team Playing with Fire. I'm currently an admin for this new site, www.doed.se, which is being built and handled by a friend of mine. I heard of his idea behind doed.se and I decided to approach him and offer my assistance. Long story short; He works his ass off building the site while I drink Martinis in the sun and gives feedback from time to time. However, I felt it was time to do some announcements and tickle some people with www.doed.se so here it is: What is Doed? Dreamers of Elite Days, Doed, is a Swedish site, currently in development. We are currently directing our eyes completely to the Swedish scene of Starcraft 2. As every swede knows, there is no Swedish community for the Starcraft 2 scene right now. This gives problems in many ways, especially when looking for Swedish tournaments and competitions on a national level in general. Well, the idea we are currently working on is that we will have seasonal division play on a national level. Players will compete against other players in their division. This has been done before with team leagues, but the change here is that this is an individual league. This has been done before? Well, yes. It has. But not, as far as I know, in Starcraft 2 and specifically not in the Swedish scene.
Q: How does it work?
+ Show Spoiler +Basically, it works exactly like any other sport does when it comes to division play. In football(soccer) there are divisions in which teams are placed depending on how good they are. They all compete within their division and the top will qualify for advancing to a higher division.
This is directly applicable on our idea for Starcraft 2. The difference is that you are playing this individually and there are some other structure differences that aren't decided yet. The top two players from a division will replace the bottom two players of a higher division for the next season while the bottom two players will be demoted to a lower division. How many players there will be in each division isn't decided yet, but we are currently setting on 10.
This is the basic idea. We will, obviously, have to make changes and adjust things at times goes by and depending on how attractive this site becomes.
Q: Why not team leagues? That is so much more fun? + Show Spoiler + I, personally, think that team leagues is a lot more fun since I already have a team that competes in team leagues, but it is my opinion that a team league on a national level is not possible yet. Since there is no Swedish community where people can find teams, or create teams, it's very hard for players to actually find other players. This means that the portion of Swedish teams are quite limited right now and I have no idea how to contact them.
I kind off hope that this site will kick off as the Swedish community site we so desperately needs and, depending on how this will turn out, I really hope we can expand into team leagues as well.
Note that this is my personal view on things and not necessarily the opinions of the other crew members at DOED.
Q: Any prizes involved?
+ Show Spoiler +Unfortunately, there are no prizes available. This is a project we are doing on our spare time and sponsors are in a galaxy far far away right now.Hopefully, this will also change as the site grows and expands.
Q: Where are you now?
+ Show Spoiler +We have an estimated launch for the site 7th of June, i.e, a few weeks from now. When the site is launched people can send us their apply for the first season of play. There will be an apply period of around 2 weeks. After that we will begin to divide people into divisions. You will be placed in a division where your skill level is evenly matched. The first season will kick off sometime during the summer. Summer is generally not a good time to do something like this since everyone, apparently, loves the sun more than Starcraft 2, but we see this as an opportunity to make a beta test of our site and the division play. If any major problems or concerns arise during the summer testing, we will fix that and come back even stronger and better for the autumn seasons. If you head in on www.doed.se you can subscribe to us with your email address and we will send you a notification once the site goes live and when the applying process starts. It is also a good way for us to see how many are interested in this site. We had a little over 50 people subscribed already, but unfortunately that mailing list was lost so we currently are back to zero...
Q: What kind of player skill level are you looking for?
+ Show Spoiler +Well, we are aiming for a higher tier of players. Diamonds and upwards, but we will base this entirely on how many of each tier that applies. If there are 5 diamond players that sign up and 75 silver players, we will, of course, allow any tier of players to join. But if there are 75 diamond/masters players and 5 bronze, we will probably end up cutting the bronze players from the season. As I said, it all comes down to how many of each skill tier that applies. I'm incredibly excited about the launch of this site and I really hope it will grow. Again, check out www.doed.se and subscribe to our newsletter. You can also see some pictures from the development of the site and also read up on some things we've jotted down. If you want to talk to us directly you can check out the irc listed on the page as well.
This is my first thread ever created on TL so...be gentle. Thanks for your time, and I hope to see you around!
- ClockWise

| Definitely signing up here. How flexible will you be when it comes to scheduling matches? Are you going to have observers? Can the players decide for themselves or is it a set match date? |

We have only discussed this very briefly. But as of now we have "decided" that matches will be scheduled on certain dates and twice a week. Monday and...Thursday I think ^^ Can't remember! Two days a week at 20.45, anyway. The matches are, however, possible to postpone or set to be played earlier than the set date. You will need to discuss this with both an admin and your opponent.
Things will be a lot clearer once the site is launched so you can see the rules(which are already written, btw). Observers will be allowed as long as both players are okay with it. We will stream games as well, but when/how and to what extent is still being discussed. |
