And how much business management have you been studying? People throwing in basic business terms are using awful logic, not seeing how this is generally bad for e-sports is ridicolous. First of all, how is this helping e-sports, a business made up largely by teenagers with bad income, having low streaming numbers and hardly gaining new viewers? It's meant for failure, if they didn't have free events MLG would likely go out of business. Blame my logic all you want, but if you can't see the stupidity with demanding 20 dollar for a weekend of SC2 as of now, you probably have no idea how real business works.
I'd wager TB knows a bit more about monetizing the gaming audience than anyone in this thread. That said, your teenager argument is flawed, the average gamer is much older these days than in previous generations. I think 25-35 is the prime demographic for gaming these days. I do however agree that free (ad based) events are the way to spread the audience, but PPV's have the most ROI. A mix is the best. Why do you think UFC has their free TV events and shows, but their main events are PPV? Remember that the MLG main events have a free version as well, so I'd say they're working on finding that ideal mix themselves.

Give me a legit source saying the gaming scene is around 25-35 if you want me to buy that. The sc2 scene is indeed more mature than, for example the CS scene, that doesn't necessary make them OLDER. You can't compare with UFC as they have such a large viewership compared to SC2 making your argument flawed. I can admit that PPV will probably be the way to go in the future, unless other options open up, but having it at this stage is indirectly hurting e-sports.

it's situational of course. can't see the games but a lot of time you need both, and if you're losing a fight you need that dps/meat--especially if you're not gonna get 10 roaches in a fat fungal.
