Friend of my got hacked early this morning, and apparently it's been a giant wave of such hacks.

To avoid heartbreak, please make sure that if you can tolerate it that you put an authenticator on your account along with adding a decent password. If you went to any remotely sketchy Diablo-related sites recently, I recommend virus scanning to be safe as well, although the attack vector for these account compromises is not yet known. |

| I'm so happy now that I had the idea, that a real currency auction house would attract all sorts of scammers and hackers and that the only thing to be safe would be an authenticator. *phew* |

Hmm.. this is slightly worrying. A mysterious person sent a friend request to me, even though I didn't give out my BattleTag to anyone. Can't remember the nick, will go back home to check it out in 2-3 hours. It's not a realID request, because the person's name isn't there.
Does anybody have any additional information about this? |

| One of the more popular map hacks(over 50k downloads) was found to have a keylogger in it. Old D2 tricks at it again. |

We really do not know who what why, to what extent. I could have typed out that dribble as a "news" article"
And really, who is going to admit to downloading a map hack? |

WTF 50k downloads on a maphack for D3??? What am I missing here, because a maphack seems almost useless on Diablo 3...
50k people should be ashamed of themselves for their stupidity.Last edit: 2012-05-22 04:44:10 |

| Maphack also shows chests, mobs and are color coded to see types too like normal/rare/elite so you can run straight to the good farming and/or avoid them and a lot of attacks go longer than full screen meaning you can be at real max range attacking on a target that some of the time won't even react to you. When you add money to a game people will do anything for an edge. Last edit: 2012-05-22 04:48:16 |

Those that use the map hack deserved it. Where is the fun of Diablo when you can see everything? Suck for good people that do nothing wrong and got hacked though . |

If the hackers were smart they would do this after the RMAH gets introduced Really weird that so many people got hacked :\ I'm wondering if people are just stupid, or if there's some security breach.. I'm still deciding whether I should use an authenticator or not. |

no worries, I'm sure they will hand out 4hour bans for hacking in a month like they do with SC2 and WoW |

An authenticator can't hurt. It's just additional security. Still the thread on battle.net forums says that the hackers may be bypassing the login process all together through a hole in the code, so that you can't possibly prevent being hacked.
Now it's just hoping not to get hacked. Although there is nothing imporant on my account as I'm just in normal mode.Last edit: 2012-05-22 05:15:38 |

But it may be a pain in the ass to use it weekly and when you're on a different IP (yes I'm lazy :\)
I don't think it matters whether you have good gear or not. Hackers don't really pick their targets, they just acquire acc info and then check if there's some good stuff on it.

| If they really left a hole open that allows for hacking to completely skip the log in function that is a major fuck up on blizz's part |

If what they are saying is true about them skipping the log in function an auth is worthless. |

I map hacked for the better half of my D2 career.
Sorry but after finding Durance of Hate level 3, Throne of Destruction, and Tristram portal for Wirt's leg for what seemed like the millionth time each, it starts to get redundant and you get a maphack. It's not useless. |
