He may be "trash" or whatever, but it doesn't really take much to see that Darius is basically Garen on steroids. As it currently stands what reason is there to play Garen when you could play Darius? Darius stronger early game, has more CC, scales significantly better, his ult does more damage, AND his ult also refreshes. And maybe Garen is trash, but that doesn't mean it is okay to take his kit and just make everything better and put it on a new champ. I think it is stupid to say that he is balanced because a jungler can gank him... How come half of the champions in the game aren't balanced on a jungler ganking them and giving their lane opponent an advantage? And yorick has a slow on his W and lifesteal E,its not a flash but it helps you escape.
Darius has nothing,0,no life steal,no dash,no flash,nothing,no abilitys to help him escape.As soon as he gets ganked the best thing you can try to do is take someone with you if you have no flash.Last edit: 2012-05-31 04:24:48 |

There are several.
Off the top of my head Warwick, Urgot, Pantheon, Teemo, Yorick, Rumble... I'd say Volibear and Fiora too, but I dunno if they are considered "good top laners" or not.Last edit: 2012-05-31 04:27:48 |

Not a true escape in the sense of a Riven Q/E but i guess it could work. Though with proper warding you can prevent alot of ganks coming onto you anyway |

No, but they also get shut down by jungle camping. If you look at a lot of the most used top laners, they have a way to deal with these situations.
Shen is naturally and build tanky, has a shield, heal, and taunt. Hard to gank.
Riven has a stun, shield, and 4 dashes. Hard to gank.
Olaf can't be CC'd, has a slow, and built in healing. Hard to gank.
Udyr has stuns, a sprint, a shield, and sustain. Hard to gank.
Lee Sin has high mobility, sustain, a shield, CC on his ult. Hard to gank.
Yorick has a slow, sustain, and his ult tremendously helps his damage in 2v1 situations. Hard to gank.
Actually, I can't name many "good" top laners that are strictly worse than Darius at escaping or surviving ganks. Shy has her MS, built in tankiness, and Dragon jump. Wukong has a dash, knockup, and sneaky stealth thingy.
Cho kind of is in the same boat, but has 2 CCs and healing. Nid can't be caught and can heal herself.
WW doesn't have an escape, but is so tanky and sustain-y that it rarely matters, he's a wall in lane.
Aside from objectively "bad" top laners like Xin, Yi, Garen, and Poppy, I can't really think of anyone who's as screwed as Darius when it comes to being camped. |

There are several. Off the top of my head Warwick, Urgot, Pantheon, Teemo, Yorick, Rumble...
Rumble has a sprint and shield, and a huge AoE slow and a single target slow.
Yorick has been talked about.
Urgot is rarely played top for this reason as well.
Panth has a stun, and is rarely pushed far enough to gank. Being camped is one of his biggest weaknesses, though. Plus, dat passive.
WW is a wall and can't really be killed unless chain CC or he's terrible.
Teemo has a sprint, slows, free wards, blind, and generall builds at least somewhat tanky with Phage, Wriggles, and maybe Wit's.Last edit: 2012-05-31 04:28:06 |

this is a very interesting discussion btw I was wondering why the meta was the way the meta is but now it really makes sense to me.
Sorry to bring kayle into this yet again but then why isn't kayle used for solo top? shes got a slow a heal a haste and a crazy ult that can give you the edge in the all in trades. Is it because her main dammage dealer push's the lane so hard? Last edit: 2012-05-31 04:33:00 |

I said what makes yorick be able to escape above,rumble has W a slow on E and a ult,Temmo has a massive move speed boost,panth can W people coming from behind,urgoth isn't the most popular top but he is ranged at least.WW has his massive lifesteal with Q on a relative short cd,but after the nerfs he isn't even used that much anymore.

If Rumbles W/E count then so does Darius' W. It has a personal movement speed buff and a slow... and its CD like 3 seconds.
You're being very... biased imo. Tons of champs are just as easy to gank as Darius. |

Honestly if you just make all of his damage physical that alone might be enough to balance him if not overnerf.
On another note i may have to revise my opinion on pony jungle. Had my most embarassing loss mid ever last night due to pony/ryze combo.
Lvl3 im about mid lane when he comes out from my blue i run at him and try to flash leapfrog his push but apperently the hitbix extends slightly behind him, and i get bumped towards ryze and into a rune prison
So now im farming under tower and he comeiout from my wolves bumps me foreward rune prison dead
I buy a ward, ward the exit from their wraiths go back to farming near my tower when he comes storming out from wolves again
Basically late game ryze -12 min in. Teammates suprisinly understanding at least but i was pretty embarassed, especially after "counterpicking" with Cass |

He may be "trash" or whatever, but it doesn't really take much to see that Darius is basically Garen on steroids. As it currently stands what reason is there to play Garen when you could play Darius? Darius stronger early game, has more CC, scales significantly better, his ult does more damage, AND his ult also refreshes. And maybe Garen is trash, but that doesn't mean it is okay to take his kit and just make everything better and put it on a new champ. I think it is stupid to say that he is balanced because a jungler can gank him... How come half of the champions in the game aren't balanced on a jungler ganking them and giving their lane opponent an advantage? Fact is he snowballs stupidly hard AND he is stupidly strong early game. Its a silly combination.
His lack of CC, mobility and sustain means it's much easier for a jungle to camp him and force him out. If you camp someone like, say, Lee Sin, he'll just dash around, heal himself, and shield the damage then kick you away. He's incredibly hard to gank. Nasus is hard to gank because he's rarely below full health thanks to his passive and will just Wither one of you, then ult to become super hard to kill. Irelia can't really be CC'd and has massive sustain with her Ult, and will stun someone if you get her low. If you gank Darius, what can he do? Using any sort of CC (hard or soft, even) on him decreases his effectiveness tremendously, all he can do is try to blitz both of you down or manually run back to tower while you chase.
So you're telling me half the top laners in the game are useless because you can gank them easily and they have no good gap closers? Huh.
Tell me a single decent top laner that is considered good and has no form of escape apart from flash.
There are several. Off the top of my head Warwick, Urgot, Pantheon, Teemo, Yorick, Rumble...
I said what makes yorick be able to escape above,rumble has W a slow on E and a ult,Temmo has a move speed boost,panth can W people coming from behind,urgoth isn't the most popular top but he is ranged at least.WW has his massive lifesteal with Q,but after the nerfs he isn't even used that much anymore. These champions all have mechanics that can help them survive and escape a gank,darius has none.

It's a slow that has to be applied with auto attacks, and only has that short CD if he has stacks of his passive up. Rumble and Yorick both apply theirs from a range without having to worry about running up to the people chasing them. They can also slow both the laner and jungler, since Rumble can use his twice and his ult is AoE, and Yorick's is AoE.
No one is saying Darius is a bad champion, but trying to convince us that he's able to escape ganks like other top laners is just silly.

Yeah, Hec can be pretty underappreciated. He's not top level jungle like Udyr or Naut, imo, but he's strong ganks, fast clears, and great 1v1s for invades or chasing. If they took off his 66% damage to minions or let him heal full off minons, he'd be OP as hell.

Plaguuu just fits anywhere really if yelled out with sufficient excitement in your voice.
Whether it's during a basketball game and there is 1.5 seconds remaining on the shot clock and someone launches a 3 pointer,whether you dunk someone in LoL,pass an exam,come during sex or actually cast the damn spell,it is a brilliant line to phrase your excitement with.Try,it works.Last edit: 2012-05-31 04:45:20 |
