In terms of SC2, if the I am a fan of the winner of the game, then yes, the game would actually be more enjoyable for me.
I just can't stand to watch Bisu's OSL losses against zergs X_X |

If the result is positive (i.e. the person I want to win, won), then I will enjoy the spoiled result less.
If the result is negative (i.e. the person I want to win, loses), then the spoiled result will lessen the blow.Last edit: 2012-05-24 16:39:48 |

| No. It's nonsense. He argues that knowing what is going on makes re-consuming the content more pleasurable as you can discover more nuances and things you haven't noticed in general. That has nothing to do with consuming content that you know the outcome of. |

| As someone who hates spoilers, it's really annoying to see people try to argue that people enjoy spoiled stories more. You may find that a spoiled story is more enjoyable for you. Great. Keep it to yourself. I don't want any of this "Oh look, I spoiled X for you but it's okay because I'm going to convince you that you actually will derive more enjoyment from X now!" That's one of the biggest "fuck you"s you can do to someone in general - do something that they absolutely despise, then try to convince them that it's actually a good thing for them. |

Most of the way we view stories is through the storytelling, not essentially the story. So even if you know what's going to happen, you still get to understand the order in which things happen and how they affect the characters. It's the journey, not the destination.
That being said, when I'm playing choice-driven games like Mass Effect or The Witcher, I prefer my choices not spoiled so I can really think about how the choices will affect the following events. |

Though this is just one way to do it, I've always liked the idea.
Haha for anyone that has read Steven Erikson he does basically the opposite where even after you've finished the book you probably still haven't figured out half the stuff. But the cool thing is that you find out new stuff and learn more of the story every time you read the books again. If you could finish the story yourself why bother even reading the rest of the book?
Also while I dislike spoilers I like watching/reading a (good) movie or book again multiple times. However, I enjoy it the most if I've forgot some important stuff about the story after a while and can be surprised again.
And on the point of it being more enjoyable because you know more than the average reader/watcher, you have that experience every time after the first that you watch/read something. There is only 1 time you can experience it where you know nothing (Jon Snow) yet. Last edit: 2012-05-24 17:36:52 |

I think sports and books are two very different things here, because for a sport, we are mostly concerned with the result: cheering for our team/player to win. For a book, the enjoyment is more in how we arrive at the result. I don't think anyone should try and make this relatable to SC2 tournament spoilers.
That being said, I've had a lot of movies and books spoiled for me, and I can definitely say I enjoyed them less. In the case of a movie that's not particularly interesting, I might just stop watching altogether in the middle. Then again, I'm in the minority; I can never watch the same movie twice, but my friends seem to love watching the same one over and over. |

I just finished reading Stephen Kings "Under the Dome", got that book from my gf and i even prevented myself from reading the blurb on the back of the book. It was awesome, even thought the ending was a bit bad imo. I enjoy books/movies/games so much more if have no clue what could happen next. |

| knowing the results dos not bother me. I watch the game to analyze strategies so that' s not a problem. But don't spoil movies. The first guy who told me who Kayser SAUZEY is... would have killed him! |

Yeah that film was spoiled for me by a TV run-down of top films. Fucking channel 4. I hate spoilers and try to avoid them when I can. |

Impossible to generalize, I'd say. But personally I'm avoiding the fuck out of every single Prometheus trailer until I hit the premiere next Friday |

| I'm pretty sure most people enjoy stories a lot more if it isn't spoiled, even the people who claim otherwise. For example stories or movies with major plot twists or murder mysteries that keep the reader guessing. If you knew the answers to these beforehand it kind of ruins all the fun. Should probably make a poll to see what the majority think. |
