Hi, guys! I hope you guys don't find it offensive of me posting this here, I decided to do so since Sayle is still a pillar of foreign BW, and since you great people who frequent these parts know more about Sayle than the average SC2 player, I figured that you might enjoy it more!
(This interview was conducted before the first day of the current season of SPL, but I guess some of us were sleeping on the job and got caught up in "real life" stuff. I hope you still enjoy the interview!)
So, without further ado, here is an excerpt of my interview with Sayle!
You are, without a doubt the most popular producer of English BW commentaries since the casting archon Tastosis started casting SC2. Do you often feel pressure because of this seeing as the commentaries you put out generally are received better by the community than other BW casters?
I think there was a lot more pressure several months ago then there is now. At the risk of sounding a bit egotistical, there was a point where I felt that the fate of foreign BW rested on my shoulders. In the beginning everything was great, I was full of passion and it was obviously nice to have so many people enjoy my casting. It did wear on my a little though and I recently took a pretty long and abrupt break from casting. Thankfully though, there are now some really great English commentators picking up the slack. We’ve got guys like Elegant, hacklebeast and L_master helping out with foreign tours and OminouS picking up the English rebroadcasts of OSL. I’m really glad that these guys stepped up and showed that the power of the community.
I also think it’s time to come back from my ‘break’ and pick up the casting mantle once more.
What we can expect from you when it comes to future content? Since the SPL will be switching to a hybrid format we will be seeing you casting SC2 soon I take it?
I will still be producing some BW content, but I think it will be nice to try my hand at SC2 as well. My first SC2 cast will be the live Proleague rebroadcast so we’ll see how that goes.
Also, I know a lot of my hardcore BW fans might be a little concerned or upset that I have “sold out” and honestly I was worried about that myself. I’m hoping though that this mixed PL format might actually do both communities a lot of good and bridge the gap between them. I’ve always kept an open-mind about SC2, following the major events like GSL and some cool streams (<3 CatZ), and I hope my viewers can look at this new direction I’m taking with an open mind as well.

Wow, i did NOT expect the way Sayle looks.
Nothing bad, i just had a totally different picture of him in my mind :')
Great caster btw! He does a wonderful job at casting sc2 without knowing much (relatively) about the current metagame.

Give him feedback, i've followed him since the beginning, if you're positive about it he'll listen. And yesterday on stream he said he wanted to watch more GSL VoDs to have better sc2 casting.
Love your attitude Sayle, avoid shitstorm with the sc2 community, don't get too big of a head, and keep on casting some bw tourneys, and I'll always love you.
And yeah, for me it was pretty clear you were casting too much at some points, you were right to get some holidays. We have other casters now, and they are good, so I hope you can enjoy casting some bw without feeling pressure from now on.

I've already purchased the GSL 2012 year-long ticket and I'm watching ESV Weekly VODs along-side. Unfortunately, VOD-watching is pretty time-consuming and it will take me a while to get my SC2 knowledge to the same level as my BW. Kinda threw myself in at the deep end by casting without a solid background but hopefully I'll learn quickly.
Any other aspects of the casts (besides game knowledge) that you'd like to see improved? I know the audio/video quality is pretty bad so I've just ordered a new microphone that will hopefully be in time for my cast this weekend. Unfortunately, I can't do much about the poor video quality considering the source EsportsTV VODs have terrible quality themselves.Last edit: 2012-05-25 08:11:49 |
