I've been hooked on this game with my Wizard, and have about 60 hours logged and steadily moving though the 2nd Act of Inferno. The loot is killer, the action is intense, and I feel like I'm making progress.
But when I hit a bad road bump, whether in difficulty or if the AH happens to be down (really, the AH is key for getting through Inferno), I get the inkling that maybe I should finally start another character. I'm one of those people too, I like the beginning of RPGs often more than the end games. It's always nice to start fresh.
And so I wanted to bounce my disappointments off of you guys to see if anyone feels the same -- because starting a new character in Diablo 3 is absolutely mind numbing. Going through Act 1 I'm always wondering what the point is, and why I'm not feeling the pull of the game any longer. I have a 9 Hunter and a 12 Monk just taunting me, like unfinished homework.
I really enjoyed this game's linear approach too, but now I wonder if it's possible to enjoy it twice. There is no challenge to worry about in Normal, and there is hardly a challenge to worry about in Nightmare -- that's ~15 hours of game to play already. Not to mention all the 'X' spamming for those pesky dialogue boxes.
All this was new the first time through, I enjoyed taking down the bosses and reading each spell and rune, but now I'm pretty much wired into thinking "this game doesn't even start until halfway into Hell." Maybe the worst bit is knowing that all the loot you're getting is simply junk rares to carry your DPS through the game faster.
I've enjoyed the game a lot since release, hardly could say anything against it. Now I'm starting to notice things I didn't before, and they concern me. Am I just suffering from burnout, or does anyone feel like the structure of this game is a little dry?

If you did not happen to play an alt, or have a friend play on your account, then you should probably find someone to carry your character a bit. Get him to lvl 20 quickly and act 3, then it will be a bit challenging.
The moments I enjoyed the most were always those where I was underleveled/geared, either from playing with friends or from leveling a lot without trading.
I think I agree with your premise overall; I don't think I could play through normal/nightmare/hell-act-1 without a fun group. |

| A group of friends certainly helps carry the slow part of the game along, I agree. |

| I just started a toon for every class and if I start feeling bored I hop on another one, it really helps for me to switch to another when I feel like I'm just slogging through on one. |

| Actually i'm the opposite.. it feels like i was able to play with friends from normal to hell, but once we hit inferno the game forces you to farm solo cause its way faster and easier |

Let me save you a teaspoon of sanity. You can hit space instead of clicking the X, and you hit can escape to skip a dialog sequence entirely. The only dialog that's not skippable is the ones where minor NPCs say things that appear in your chat log. Then you just have to dick around until they decide to shut up and walk 10 feet to the left so you can start your quest. |

For what it's worth, let's take a second to really put the cards on the table here. When Diablo 2 came out I kind of felt the same way. I killed Baal in hell once the expansion came out and was really uninterested after that, for a short while..
What ended up happening were microchasms in the content that started to form I guess what you could compare to being the "meta game" like Starcraft. Big communities were formed and what began as artificial goals, like getting absurdly geared and rich, dueling, and just all kind of contests and tournaments (iron mans for life) came into fruition. I'd really blame a lack of content coming on the original release with PvP being gone because it was a real benchmark for your work, and it created more incentive, however the inferno difficulty sort of emulates that from D2.
After a few drinks I can't really make a real point, as it's just a feeling that you're going off and I can relate to it from way in the past, but I'm just saying have a bit of patience and explore the game without having any conditions with it. Just let it flow for a while. Games like this always create their own path, they're not forced upon you. D3 is brand new and who knows where it's going. As a fast remedy maybe looking around for other communities to become a part of (I've been on d2jsp since 2002) would really help.

I'm pretty sure you can spam space for those too. |

Actually, Space bar skips NPC talking as well. |

| This is my first diablo game, and actually having to run through the same storyline 3 times (before getting to inferno) discourage me from making a second character. I just don't see the appeal or where the replay value lies. Even playing in parties can often feel like I'm on autopilot, to the point of actually falling asleep whilst clicking frantically ~_~ bleh |

| Another hint is that gems have no level requirement, so if you find something socketed you can give your alt a way oversized gem from your main to really boost you through the earlier phases. |

THIS. Drop a Square Ruby into any weapon during normal, and you instantly own everything. |

| Well after for being in inferno for awhile, I decided to make a new character. I forgot how much of a joke normal is. It has been quite entertaining for me. I only get about 6 levels here and there before I yearn to be back in inferno so I just do that. Just do ridiculously dumb stuff in normal and you will find how funny it can be. |

When I learned this it was as if a great burden was taken away from me.
I happen to like playing alts. I find it very, very fun.

Been meant to start another character but just haven't got to it and now after reaching Act 2 in Inferno on my Monk seems like it's time for that now.
Not sure on whether I want DH or Wiz though, and bit worried of Normal/NM being boring. |

Just made a new barb, was a lot of fun running around at lvl 20 with 300dmg/6k hp, literally one shotting everything and could afk in a pack of mobs and my health wouldn't drop
