Each race has a primary stat that boosts their damage. For barbs its strength, for monks & demon hunters its dexterity, and for witch doctors and wizards its int.
The auction house does not display a character-specific DPS gain on the auction house depending on what character you have signed in. It just displays the dps of the weapon with the specific mods that add dmg to the damage range (fire/arcane/damage/damage%/etc). You have to mouse over it to find what the translated class-specific DR-specific STR->DPS and DEX->DPS and INT->DPS is. There are also formulas that the game uses to calculate it (life, dps, protection) ... whether or not these are out there already I do not know.

I did some napkin math today, using my wizard - rough stats are:
1500 int 52000 damage
1 int = 22 damage 1 dps (on weapon) = 20 damage on char sheet 1 damage (on offhand, so a 50-150 offhand has avg 100 damage) = 50 damage on char sheet
The offhand was calculated with a 1.4 speed weapon. Faster weapons will get more damage out of it, slower weapons will get less.
If you have roughly the same amount of int but less weapon dps, then obviously the value for your weapon dps will go up while int goes down. If vice versa (my 1h + oh is roughly equal to a 1250 dps 2hander), then int will be more valuable than weapon dps.
