@phiinix Yes good point, I realized that the option of random does not fit with the others, but I don't know how to edit a poll perhaps a mod can help me if they read this and remove it.
Really interesting reading about people's experiences and really refreshing to read probably the least-biased-possible opinions on different races. And a special thanks to those that took the time to elaborate on their switches. |

Switched from T to P to help with a wrist injury.
What did you find was easier? Execution of attacks and execution of basic macro.
What was harder? Decision making at the build order level.
What was different? My apm as a macro Terran was 220+ at all times and my apm as a toss is more like 140-180.
What was unexpected and surprised you? PvZ became my best matchup very quickly.
Are you happy you made the switch? Since my tendon problem has gone away after no longer controlling alot of marines everywhere on the map, I am very glad.
And w/e insights you may have... Be prepared to lose alot. Focus in on very fine details of pro replays. If you are a T switching to P, read the guides on TL and learn how to do all the deviations in each build you learn. Focus in on the fact that you are a reactive race instead of pro active now. Even when you do builds that are aggressive (say a 4 gate pressure after FE), you will be scouting and reacting and your next moves will contain several deviations that you might need to execute. |

TERRAN IS HARD
really? I main protoss and have a account where I only play terran, maintain mid masters and I only know a few builds in each m/u. terran is so forgiving :D it's nice being able to actually trade armies unlike protoss.
I think switching from terran/protoss to zerg is the most difficult. Learning when to make drones and not units and when to be greedy is something zergs have learned from time. Not to say that zerg is the most difficult race, it's just different. |

Switched Z to P to T, all mid-master league
What did you find was easier? - T: easier to cheese and hold off cheese - P and Z: mechanically much easier in mid/late game overall
What was harder? - T: basic mechanics. Had to actually practice to macro properly - P: holding cheese - Z: memorize opponent attack timings
What was different? - T: Having to press A so much since marines build so fast; necessity of being aggressive - P: weakness of gateway units early on; switching screen location to warp-in - Z: larva inject/creep spread = tedious, but building supply is so easy What was unexpected and surprised you? - T: all-ins are actually not too easy to pull off as I thought, after losing to Terran all-in's as P and Z - P: beating way bigger T armies in late game; APM is 20% lower than T or Z - Z: not much... boring race
Are you happy you made the switch? - Yes, both switches (Z to P and P to T) made me feel like I'm playing a funner race. Now I'm stuck with T cuz it's the funnest to me
And w/e insights you may have... - wish Z is more fun, it's my BW race; most Z units do not have micro potential at all.Last edit: 2012-05-27 09:06:47 |

Started as Terran > Zerg > Terran > Protoss > Zerg > Protoss > Terran > Zerg > Terran.
I'm almost 100% sure I've decided to stick with Terran. So much race switching because I'd see a pro do something and I thought "I want to do that". Also a lot of race changing to learn the other races and how the other side of matchups work.
Loving Terran, and playing a tiny bit of protoss every now and then. I've played a lot of games as zerg, and I've realized they aren't suited for me.Last edit: 2012-05-27 10:33:50 |

Team liquid is the type of site that interests a lot of people who actually play the game a lot, so you'd expect to see a disproportionate amount of masters players here. |

Switched from Terran to Protoss because frankly, I don't enjoy TvZ and TvP at high master EU anymore. I just find it to hard from my Terran perspective.
What did you find was easier? That I'm never mechanically capped. Like in TvZ and TvP I could do multipronged drops while fighting with an main army and macro at the same time and still lose the game because I didn't do all this good enough at the same time. With Protoss I haven't had a game where I have left the game and thought for myself like "Damn, if I only had better mechanics there I could have won that game" etc. And I find the micro way easier.
What was harder? Scouting, detection placement and sometimes dealing with drops because I'm to aggressive as player because of BW Protoss and SC2 Terran.
What was different? Macro. You just feel so "empty" when you macro as Protoss. You have like one hotkey for your robo, sometimes you have a stargate and then you just press W for gateway units. I would prefer to macro thru gateways like BW/Terran style rather than warpgates.
What was unexpected and surprised you? How easy you can win TvP with good map awareness, observer control and HT control.
Are you happy you made the switch? I guess? But Blizzard can make Protoss so much more fun imo. The race is really lacking in many aspects. |

I switched from Terran to Zerg around October 2010. I was gold back then.
I decided that 1base Raven every game wasn't really getting me anywhere, so I started to play Random. When I played Terran I did the same as before, and as Protoss I did nothing but one base Void Ray. With Zerg I had to play quite differently compared to the 1basing I did with the other races, it just didn't work out so well with Zerg. So I switched to Zerg. I did a lot more stuff than 1basing and managed to get Diamond at Dreamhack Winter 2010. After a quite long break because of WoW I decided to play only SCII and managed to get Master shortly after, at Dreamhack Summer 2011. (DH promotions ftw)
What did you find was easier? Nothing actually. Well, perhaps the Macro. I felt like it required a completely different set of skills so I had to adapt. In a way I suppose it's what made me improve. What was harder? Holding a lot of allins. Especially the 4gates gave me nightmares. At least back then, now it's a lot easier due to all the patches.
What was different? Pretty much everything. Mainly the macro mechanics I suppose. I did enjoy playing Zerg a lot more though.
What was unexpected and surprised you? I never thought I would fall in love with Zerg so hard.
Are you happy you made the switch? Yes! If I didn't start playing Zerg I don't think I would have played for very long.

| In the beta I started to play protoss ( i was influenced by my highschool teacher we talked about sc2). Then I lost to a terran, i thought that stim was pretty cool. But something about Zerg has drawn me since broodwars and i eventually caved and havent looked back yet! |
