Hey, i guess the topic says it all: I just laddered and my opponent insta left the game, or was dropped.
![[image loading]](http://www7.pic-upload.de/thumb/30.05.12/du7t4jju1uv.jpg)
I guess he is trying to loose some ladderpoints, but i wonder shouldnt my opponent be demoted once or twice even before he is paired vs a plat player like me?
I hope someone with better understanding of the ladder and mmr mechanics can enlighten me. We were paired as even, if i recall correct.
Thx |

he does it so his mmr is bronze and he can beat bronze people to lose bonus pool and remain in gm

That makes no sense at all. If he drops his mmr to bronze value, and beats bronze players. Then his mmr is going to rise to silver/gold/platinum/diamond/masters/gm in that order.
Hence he will be going back up the mmr chain which in turn may not return him to GM. |

| The way I understand it, when you are quickly gaining or losing points the ladder system will pit you against different leagues of players for a while till it sees what league you "settle" in, then it will promote or demote you accordingly, it doesn't just go up or down a single rank every time, that's not how it seems to work at all. Can't get out of GM without accumulating a fair amount of Bonus Pool, no matter how shit your W/L is. |

You don't drop out of GM unless your bonus pool rises too high. If he was in danger of dropping due to being unable to win games, he can lose a bunch of games on purpose and proceed to beat plat-diamond level players and get rid of the bonus pool that way. He doesn't have to beat players of his calibre any more.

| My understanding of GM is that you can't get kicked out of GM unless you let your pool get to 180 or something like that. |

if you're gm you literally have to leave hundreds of games in a row until you matchup against someone who is in platinum. I am around top 100-200 masters on EU and I haven't played a diamond player in .. forever even when I was on 20 game loss streaks. |

| wow, i didnt know that, but thx. I wonder if that´s a good thing. I can see people exploiting this during an inactive phase by dropping a ton of games and then just occasionally smashing a plat guy to park their acc in GM. Last edit: 2012-05-30 08:29:54 |

yea but everyone knows what this guy is doing... its not like GM league doesn't mean anything just because a few guys who abuse the system exist. besides that this guy made GM at 1 point so I guess he can't be too bad, I don't mind people doing stuff like that as long its just a minority (probably less than 1-3 people) |

GM league is supposed to represent the currently most skilled players in that region, so i have to contradict you mildly, since such a pratice would lead the idea ad absurdum. On the other hand i don´t wanna blame my opponent here for something i don´t know he has done and i don´t care too much. It´s free ladder points anyway.

| ..... its obvious that there are players in masters who are better than GM players. I'd say the top 50 of masters on a server constantly have higher MMR than the bottom 100 of GM. |

Incorrect: GM only represents both the most skilled and active players in the region. It's unfortunate he got in when he shouldn't be in GM.

He'd still be pretty boned for next season, right? Or atleast he'd have to climb back through the high master ranks, or am I missing something?
Dunno, this way of things, just seems kinda silly to me, since if loosing those x amount of games until you are playing far below your skill level, you might aswell just loose a few and play at mid-high master level and win there to keep your BP from going to high... Only benefit of this, is it's probably faster just instant leaving like 50 games and then cheesing a few low leaguers...?
Edit: Ugh after reading that Buki thread, I just don't understand the GM system, it really doesn't make much sense to me. Something that seems like it'd be sooo straight forward to implement with very clear, fair and obvious behavior becomes incredibly complex and some parts seem quite stupid...Last edit: 2012-05-30 08:48:37 |

| I find it weird how GM isn't about how high your MMR is. It's about your bonus pool. It should be like all the other leagues too. |
