Actually, Sony just made other companies much more attractive. They are really good in shooting themselves in the foot, I thought they lost their edge over Blizzard with Dia 3, but never count out sony. I mean, do they try to go bankrupt?Last edit: 2012-05-31 10:51:10 |

The fucked up part of this isnt the potential for ads in games, the really fucked up thing is the fact that something as general as that can be patented.

Don't really see a problem, many companies have really fucked up patents but it doesn't matter when they aren't being used. But even if they decide to use it, there are many ways they could actually use this without hurting anyone.Last edit: 2012-05-31 11:05:50 |

| The patent office drones are really just mindlessly accepting any shit that comes out of a big company ass these days? How is pausing a game to play adds not obvious? I am pretty sure prior art exist too. Not that it matters nowadays, just whoever throw the most lawyers at the case in court wins. |

| If they are subtle with it, I am fine with it. But if, as they so aptly described, INTERRUPTING the game... fuck that. What the fuck. Video games are based entirely upon immersion nowadays, what the fuck kind of company does that? Loading screens is fine, immersive ads are alright, I guess (Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 have these), but to have something that rips your screen apart and then "goatse"s it up with shit like "BUY MCDONALD HAMBURGERS!" I swear I will leave this medium of entertainment forever and never look back. |

| Only case where this can it has a chance of working without a complete gamer revolt is in free to play games. Even then, I don't see this working out too well. |

I will never buy or use anything that has this. If it happens that all games have this I will quit buying new games and only play old ones.
Also, this really helps reinforce my lifelong hatred of Sony. I cannot stand that company. They still charge more for televisions than their competition because they think their brand is worth it, but it isn't anymore, and it wasn't back in the 90s when they were big. Hence why they are losing tons of money and having to lay off thousands of people. They don't innovate and instead think their name makes up for it. |

| It'd be ok in like a free-to-play game, but otherwise this is sorta excessive. How much are we as consumers going to let these companies get away with? |

This. I am also OK with ads if the games are cheaper.
Agreed. If I'm to be subjected to advertising in a game I pay $60 for, I will not buy it.
I may be wrong about this (I pay little attention to Sony), but I think that Sony could see this as a way to increase revenue to combat their console's waning popularity. If so, I think Microsoft will increase their lead simply by staying their course (avoiding in-game advertising). |

| Maybe you're playing Doom 4 and you're walking in some abandoned city and you see a huge Coca Cola ad, if that is the case It wouldn't bother me. |

Thats not what patent describes because stuff like that is already in game. The patent basically gives me the image of completing the level and before I get to see the next scene I have to wait thru some commercials. |

| Actually, if they do things like, float no intrusive ads around when you're in a pause screen, that'd be a huge boost for them and wouldn't really affect you too much. That'd be a great idea actually, even if it kills immersion a bit. But if it's a sci-fi game, there's easily ways to incorporate ads in random places, such as placing ads when we were watching that reporter girl in the Starcraft 2 campaign. |
