I have been playing Diablo 3 for the last two weeks, and I notice it does not have the same grip on me that SC2, WoW, or some other games had. I am not quite sure why though, for me the game somehow feels limited, there is no mystery to it, no new things to discover.
Maybe it is because I can see every possible item in the AH already. Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed the game a lot for the last couple of weeks, but I am not drawn to keep playing now that I am at inferno level. It does not have the same grip on me that other Blizzard games have.
I am wondering if this is the same for others. So here is a poll.
Poll: How much longer will you play Diablo?Stopped playing (390) 45% Many Years (201) 23% 1 Month (123) 14% 3 Months (81) 9% 6 Months (38) 4% 1 Year (30) 3% 863 total votes Your vote: How much longer will you play Diablo? (Vote): Stopped playing (Vote): 1 Month (Vote): 3 Months (Vote): 6 Months (Vote): 1 Year (Vote): Many Years
And if possible, I would like to know why you will keep playing, or stop playing.
Thanks!
(also, I am a game developer and curious to see what people appreciate in this type of game) |

| I thoroughly enjoyed D2 for years. But, I don't know if I'm getting older or what, but I have little to no motivation to play once I hit Inferno. |

| I voted many years, I don't know yet if that will be true, but I do plan to stick it out with this game. I have no doubt it will be expanded and get more depth (through patches for smaller things, an xpac for bigger changes), just like Diablo 2 did. I admit I'm a bit frustrated with the game right now (jump from hell -> inferno is a bitch), but I do enjoy the gearing up aspect of hack'n'slashers. |

| diablo is one of those games you can come back to after a couple months break and not suddenly be way behind the times. every time you play you will get different loot or events, elites etc. There is far more mystery than a game like wow where you can find the loot table for X raid and know exactly what mobs you will run in to every time you run it. |

I honestly don't know. I've loved the game since release, but there are many issues and some of these issues will get worse as time goes on unless blizzard does something about it. As I've gotten to mid inferno, these issues are getting bigger and bigger, and you start to look for a game which is similar but doesn't have the same issues. Since I have the path of exile beta, I'm slowly being drawn towards that since I think it has massive potential. I will probably try torchlight 2 as well when it's released, and it's probable one of these games will outshine D3 for me, depending on what blizzard does.
That said, I HOPE I tire of D3 soon, I've been waiting for Dragons Dogma for ages but I don't feel inclined to buy it when I'm still playing D3 like crazy. |

I stopped playing after beating inferno because the future goals in the game like PvP will depend on how much time you spend not necessarily developing your skill, but grinding so you can gear up. While there is an appeal to finding cool items, the time required to get the tip-top stuff is such that it will consume too much of my free time. I would spend too much of my time thinking about the game/ initiating trades even when I'm not playing. It's either all or nothing, so I chose to stop.
Partially a combination of how heavily invested I get into games like these and how heavily invested the game design requires of you, basically. |

slowly but surely im getting pulled away.
when i first rolled a monk i loved the game.
then i finished normal and thought was that it? is that all they could come up with?
then i finished nightmare and thought what was the point of that?
then i finished hell and thought YES FINALLY TIME TO PLAY THE REAL PART OF D3
now im stuck halfway through act 2 and issues with the game are just becoming more and more obvious. either way i just find its not that fun. i honestly think most of that feeling comes from me being a monk, without resorting to balance whine i just dont find it fun that im stuck in act 2 while all my dh wiz friends are up to act 4 and farming top items to sell on ah.

I like the game but now that I hit inferno I don't feel like playing it anymore at all.
And when I do want to play; error 37 baby. |

| the game only feels that way because pvp is not in yet. i think inferno has become a wall more than anything, but inferno is fun in the right conditions like yesterday i was playing dodgeball in act 2 with some shamans and friends. |

| I hit inferno act 2 and my drive to play stopped. I LOVE challenging games, like Dark Souls! But Diablo 3's difficulty isn't about difficulty. It's more about getting the right rare spawns that you can actually kill without being one hitted. And due to hit lag, Diablo 3 is REALLY annoying in the difficulty department. It isn't challenging in a fun way. It's a gear check. It's not skilled based. It feels more like WoW and raiding where if you don't have enough DPS or tanking gear or whatever you simply couldn't get an invite to a raid or even do it. That's what Diablo 3 inferno feels like. |

| I won't stop playing until I beat hell on HC mode. If you're bored you should try hardcore- it's way more fun. |

Entirely depends on how the PvP turns out in my case, current content won't keep me interested for very long.
Act 3 Inferno Monk atm but don't feel like playing it much more and leveling alts now, trying to do enough grinding on my Monk to keep 10 auctions rolling. |

People aren't complaining about the same issues now that they were on launch. D2 had even more (and bigger) issues than D3, that also got worse over time, and that didn't stop it being great fun for years and years. |

It all depends on what they do with itemization issues. Right now the stick is there, but the carrot is rotten. I never really cared for PvP in D2, I loved MFing for the best items and making a great character that can stand up to Hell. Right now legendaries suck and I am not sure about MFing.
I still got D2 installed in my PC. I can go back to that, and finish Hell with my Assassin, then roll a Sorc and go play with her.

Got bored pretty fast.
I´ll give it another try when PvP gets in the game, if its seems like a fun choice. |
