We hear about gun shootings, crazy mentally-unstable people going on rampages, and just a lot of unfortunate things that happen at college campuses all the time.
I'm curious to see what kind of things have happened at your campuses while you were attending them. Feel free to post things that may have happened at your highschool too.
So for me, I just graduated from university of washington in seattle.
Just a couple days ago there was a shooting on the ave (long avenue where most of the restaurants are located, right next to campus) at this cafe. 3 people died, 2 were injured. Crazy thing is I've been to this place one a long time ago. it feels really weird when you hear about some shooting at a place you've been to.
I think about 2 years ago, some guy walked to the middle of red square (a huge central open area, located at the center of the major libraries), drenched himself with gasoline, and lit himself onfire. many people that were around stripped themselves and put the fire out, but he was too burned and died on the way to the hospital.
and finally, for some reason, people fall out of windows all the time at my school. i swear, every year i at least hear about it once. lesson to take: if you're going to fall asleep in class, make sure youre not sitting next to a window... sigh.
that's about all i can remember. im curious to hear your stories |

lol that was actually just a guess at how it would even happen. probably not the most likely case. im thinking they were probably just sitting on top of an open window sill and fell off or something.. sounds a bit more likely |

1 thing, not as crazy as a shooting though.
One time in my school some kid kept getting bullied. He was a little eccentric and loud but I guess ok. He only had one friend and lived with his mom who was quite poor so he was bullied for that I guess. He liked basket ball and typically would hang around the courts on his own or with his one friend and always two of the schools bullies whould beat him up.
One time though, it got a bit out of hand. He was just there on the court chilling out when they jumped and attacked him, and they beat him far more than normal. I remember his mom coming into the school to complain but they didn't really do anything.
Next thing we hear the school sent him to another school where he lived with his family in the area. Tunrs out they were RICH! and he lived in a mansion and had a life of luxury.
We meet again at a school reunion, and he became a fairly achomplished actor. |

| When I was in high school I watched the teacher across the hall get arrested and walked out in handcuffs durring the middle of class. Apparently he was having an inappropriate relationship with one of the volleyball players (he was the head coach). I don't know how the case turned out, but I do know he never came back to the school. |

3 suicides in 3 years. Lovely.
And a guy came to the school after school and cut one of the students (who owed him money, or something) with a machete. I was on the other side of the school when it happened.
Also one of our teachers went missing for 2 weeks after we complained about how he didn't teach us anything and was incompetent. He eventually quit, lol. |

| A fake bomb threat, and an accidental false gun report (bus driver saw one of our ROTC members out of uniform with his rifle, on a campus known for it's ROTC program, and on Halloween no less, and called it in). Both of these were just since I've been here (2 years) so I'm sure there's been other stuff too. |

| Only thing I can remember is one time I was sitting outside with a couple of friends, and right in front of us this guy starts asking another guy where his book is. The other guy is like I don't know man I don't have it (imagine the typical drug deal gone wrong), and then the guy who asked the question got mad and started punching him in the face, after he got pulled away by some people he kept yelling "YOU DONT KNOW ME!" with a really high voice which made it kind of comical. We still sometimes whip that line out as an inside joke haha. |

I don't know how odd these things are for other people, but I grew up in a very small, preppy town:
One chick in my grade was a legitimate prostitute. One dude got arrested for having 3x the federal level of Ectasy, and some shrooms in his bag. An autistic child backhanded a teacher in the face during an all-school spelling bee after he lost. Some dudes drove a golfcart owned by the school into a pond behind the building. A senior got labeled a legal sex offender because he hooked up with a freshman, and her parents found out and pressed charges. Some dudes let loose three pigs in the school, after painting, "1," "2," and, "4," on their back. |

In elementary school my class teacher rushed out of the room crying, straight to the principle, wanting to quit. Don't know what happened before, but i thought it was quite funny, considering she was a grown-up, getting bullied by 8 year olds.
In high school I had a classmate who had kind of a strange personality, but he was very quiet all the time. One of those passive aggressive guys. He was getting bullied by a girl for a very long time, until he just stood up like a robot and gave her some good swings to her face. I had a lot of sympathy for him, since he was getting bullied for a long time, but others rushed to help the girl and grabbed him. That was the moment when the teacher came back to class and she started screaming: "Get off the boy! Are you crazy?". |

I was walking around the library when I heard this beating noise like something was hitting the concrete. When I finished walking around the corner (And I heard this sound a good hundred feet away) I saw this guy dancing by stomping his feet onto the ground repeatedly. He didn't have an ipod or a walkman (or any rhythm now that I think about it) and was just standing there stomping his feet up and down for like 10 minutes.
I'll try to post any other weird stories I can think of. |

Well its not really crazy but we did have a kid come in after hours and smear shit all over a teachers walls.
Also somehow someone managed to get into the school and put like sixty couch cushions in the drop tile ceiling of the cafeteria, one day during lunch, out of nowhere we all hear this huge crack and they all came tumbling down, along with a generous portion of the ceiling and the water from the sprinkler system.
They had to close school for two days to repair everything and then another day because they found a gas leak :D BEST WEEK EVER!
P.S. my High school wasn't old, it was built in 2002 not sure why it has so many structural problems! |

| Australia is apparently quite tame in this regard. Nothing remotely interesting happened in any of the schools in my area from grade 7 to 12, except for one (false) bomb scare. Last edit: 2012-06-02 04:53:48 |

The best stories usually come from public schools, especially inner state.
When I was in Queens in junior high we had 2 pregnancies, 4 arrests, 8 expulsions (from theft and selling), a teacher fired for harrasment, and two teachers who quit because they couldn't take it anymore - in that year alone. On top of the barbed wire above the chain-linked fence, the evolving graffiti covering every inch of every wall and the bullet holes on the gates, it wasn't a bad experience.
Every month there's an assembly and the first five minutes are updates on school; the rest of the time was spent talking about pipes in lockers, semester test results aren't improving, bullying, increasing truancy, students abusing school staff, school staff abusing students, the thefts and the vandalism.

There was a guy in my homeroom who was caught having 'indecent video recordings' of three senior girls. He said that one of the girls worked for an escort service and the other girls were coworkers. Pretty sure it's more common than people think. Last edit: 2012-06-02 05:01:01 |

That one video of the guys beating up that asian kid with one of the attackers saying "hold my gloves" or whatever. Apparently the Anon or whatever hacked our school website to say they don't condone violence and stuff. |

That's actually quite sad the state of our public education system isn't the worst but it is rapidly becoming the most apathetic (next to most fast food employees of course) job in the market, because kids just don't give a damn, I know I usually didn't. Unless it was chemistry that shit was off the chain! Mixing shit, heating it, beakers and bunsens and all manner of sciency awesomeness! |

Kid in my school once dressed as an SS-officer (with iron cross and all, really realistic) and saluted sb with "heil" during carnival. He got thrown out of school I think and his parents got problems with the police (he was 13 that time iirc)Last edit: 2012-06-02 05:06:52 |
