Introduction
Welcome one and all to the official introduction of the brand new ALT StarCraft Tournament format! We're happy to announce that we will be extending out $500 tournament to a 64-player double elimination bracket. However, it will now occur bimonthly (every 2 months) instead of monthly. This allows more players to qualify and makes it a lot easier to schedule around larger events so that viewership and player participation does not clash.
The ALT Gaming League or AGL, is ALT StarCraft's tournament division focused on tournaments that are open to players of all skill levels as our name suggests. We hate the idea of excluding anyone from any tournament for any reason so it seems only logical that we run our tournaments in this fashion.
Qualification
Players can qualify through our 32-player single elimination tournament that occurs three times a week. The top 3 will receive an invitation to the tournament for a possible total of 24 qualifying players. 8 additional invites will be awarded to the players who finished top 8 in the previous AGL tournament. The other 32 invitations will be handed out by the ALT StarCraft staff to players in the community of our choosing and various other events (such as showmatches, giveaways, etc.) The top 8 players receive seeds 1-8, the qualifier players receive seeds 9-32, and the invited players receive seeds 33-64. It will always be advantageous to qualify rather than be invited as you will receive a better seed.
Players will receive their invites immediately after winning the tournament. If players happen to win a weekly tournament more than once they are awarded another invite to hand to a friend or player of their choosing. If these invites remain unclaimed either an additional tournament will be run or they will be handed out with the non-tournament invites.

Hello everyone, before I begin to announce some mid-season changes we're making, I would like to apologize on behalf of the entire organization for the cancellation of a few tournaments over the past 2 weeks. It is never our desire to cancel a tournament without good reason. Most of the tournaments were called off due to poor attendance and that is something that is entirely our fault. This is our league and we need to advertise more aggressively. We appreciate those who have stuck by us.
Second, we were fully aware our transition and partnership would take some time to adjust properly in terms of viewership and participants. However, we did not take into account the nature of other tournaments run on CSN. Unlike Playhem or Z33K, which are flooded with daily events and competitions, CSN has few tournaments that run continuously throughout the week. While this may be viewed as a negative we feel quite the opposite. It is something that will ALT to excel. It will let us stand out among our peers and competitors. We will have a consistent weekly presence.
So, without further digression, I announce our new format for the remainder of this season:
Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you for your continued support and understanding. We could not do this without you guys.

We will have a consistent weekly presence.
So, without further digression, I announce our new format for the remainder of this season:
- We will now be hosting our tournaments once per week. Alternating every Tuesday/Thursday. The first tournament day of the season depends on the way the month falls.
- Similar to the MLG Summer Arena, we are now using two separate 32-player double elimination brackets. The winners of each bracket will now play each other for the grand finals in a Best of 7 series. We have elected to do this for a few reasons: CSN currently limits double elimination tournaments to only 32 players. It is easier to manage two admins and two streams with two separate brackets. Admin A, Stream A, Bracket A. Admin B, Stream B, Bracket B. Very simple and to the point. The double bracket style we will be reflected on the Liquipedia page.
- The top 3 players will now qualify with each player receiving a higher seed for their respective placement. This is to ensure that top 3 players play out their games. This is to ensure that qualifying for our tournaments are more beneficial than being invited.
- By now having a set seeding system in which the previous Top 8 are spread out between both sides of the bracket, we will be able to show our first round seeds a week prior to the AGL-August. This will give players time to prepare for their matches.
- We have refined our map pool to only 5 maps. In order to pursue the highest level of competition we felt that taking away the variance granted by lesser known maps, will give way to a more approachable tournament and fiercer competition as well maps will be familiar. These 5 maps are: ESV Cloud Kingdom, ESV Ohana LE, GSL Daybreak, GSL Entombed Valley, and GSL Metropolis.
Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you for your continued support and understanding. We could not do this without you guys.
The rules below are very important and should be read. We are very strict on our rules in the plight of fairness.
ALT StarCraft Rules and Regulations:
+ Show Spoiler +
If you type "gg" at any time (other than initial gl hf gg) or simply leave, you concede and lose the game. This is to prevent any offensive "gg" in order to force an opponent to leave unintentionally.
Disruptive behavior or failure to follow the rules will result in an immediate disqualification from the the tournament. Repeat offenders will be banned entirely.
Remember: It is the player's responsibility to be available to play their match. Holding up the bracket is both disrespectful to other players and tournament organizers alike. Circumstances beyond ALT StarCraft's control may apply but everything is ultimately at the discretion of the tournament administrators.
Disruptive behavior or failure to follow the rules will result in an immediate disqualification from the the tournament. Repeat offenders will be banned entirely.
- You must play with the Battle.net ID that you signed up with.
- Foul, inappropriate, abusive, or abrasive language toward players, admins, or spectators will not be tolerated.
- You must contact your opponent on Battle.net to initiate your match. Most players hang out in the “altstarcraft” channel although not everyone is there.
- All Semi-Finals and Finals (marked as such on the brackets page) will require either an admin's presence in the game or the permission of an admin to begin without them.
- The 10 minute grace period for submitting a forfeit win will begin when a tournament administrator has contacted the unavailable player. A time stamp via screen shot will be taken since Battle.net does not have time stamps in its chat system. If the unavailable player is not accepting messages from users not on his/hers friend the same protocol will be followed. Once the admin initiated grace period has expired the player may submit for a forfeit win. However, if the player wishes to wait for the unavailable player, an additional 10 minutes (15 minutes for AGL) will be granted. Once this player initiated period has expired that player will be advanced regardless of their desire to play their opponent.
- If there is a disconnect in a game a tournament administrator will review the game (regardless of the reason for the disconnect) and determine if the game shall be replayed or if one player had a clear advantage over another and a win will be issued to the player.
If a player disconnects twice (or more) in the same tournament then that game will be declared a loss for the disconnecting player. - Any games/matches played on maps not in the map pool will be declared invalid and the game/match must be replayed.
- Absolutely NO spectators are allowed in-game. Those listed as tournament admins are the only personnel allowed in tournament matches.
- If your game is observed by a tournament official, it will be streamed on twitch.tv/altstarcraft, recorded, and placed on YouTube.com/knacksc2.
- After your match has completed the winner of the match will be responsible for reporting the results. If you are unsure how to submit a result, please view the FAQ.
- For Best of 1 Matches, the map is predetermined and will be listed on the bracket page.
- For Best of 3 and Best of 5 Matches, the first map is predetermined and will be listed on the bracket page. All subsequent games will be loser's pick.
- Disqualification from tournaments and forfeits are final and will never be reviewed unless deemed necessary by the tournament administrators.
Remember: It is the player's responsibility to be available to play their match. Holding up the bracket is both disrespectful to other players and tournament organizers alike. Circumstances beyond ALT StarCraft's control may apply but everything is ultimately at the discretion of the tournament administrators.
