| This layout is faster but does it allow for increased precision as well, increased precision or decreased precision (in essence does it make your actions more efficent or does it just make them faster) |

Speed and efficiency are essentially the same thing.
Think of efficiency as a function of keystrokes divided by time. Sound familiar? Speed is the function of distance divided by time.
Anywho, the keys you have to press are moved much closer to the base keys. Instead of Immortal being on i when the base keys are asdf, immortal is j(?) with the base keys as jiop. Since the keys are closer together, efficiency is increased.

@Tobberoth/superbarnie The key removal is not necessary, but it hardly is "extreme" in the way that you take out a couple of keys that you don't have any use for anyway.
@cristo Could you specify what you mean by precision? If you mean more precise army control, then absolutely. If you mean more precise key presses, I would say you do have more precise keypresses once you learn the keys because there is much less reaching than in the standard/lightly modified layouts. Antylamon has a pretty good explanation that I agree with here. |

There's a mouseless hotkey setup if you don't have fourth and fifth mouse buttons. If your mouse has fourth and fifth mouse buttons, you hotkey all your hatcheries to one button and all your queens to the other button. You do this by going to the hotkeys section of starcraft 2 and setting ctrl + left mouse button to set a group of units as a control group, shift + left mouse button to add a group of units to the same control group, and left mouse button to select the units in that control group. Been playing with darkgrid for maybe 6 months now and I remember how much work I had to put into that just to play close to my own level again, so will not be trying this out.
The hand positioning seems a bit unorthodox but putting my hand in that position it does feel comfortable enough.
I would switch the hatch and queen hotkeys around! The button closer to your wrist should be the one you use more often! (hatches)
Nice setup, good luck to all who use it If you are using default hotkeys, or even grid, I recommend putting in the time to switch! |

I ask because all of those are currently exclamation point on my just downloaded file. Also, is the "gather resources" command supposed to be dollar sign? |

I thought it was impossible for ! and $ to be viewed when editing hotkeys...
It usually says Shift+1, Shift+2, etc. for those keys, as in the add to control group buttons.
It's either a dl or SC2 corruption. Try to dl the layout again, then check back to see if it's answered |

Just poking in here again, I don't have any real suggestions to add because right now I am just not finding anything to improve  But I am writing mostly to new people who might be popping into this thread. I transitioned to theCore pretty much instantly when it was first made official and I am 100% happy with this choice.
My macro is actually better now only due to the hotkey change, I am not kidding I track my macro data from game to game so I can compare pre switch with post switch and it is a measurable difference, keeping in mind that I am still struggling to find lesser used keys and my unit control is not crisp. Are you serious? This looks beyond retarded. Why are the keys on the wrong side of the keyboard?
I do like your general approach of choosing keys based on what is used most,but there are other considerations. Some keys are used infrequently, but its very important to have, for example lift/land. I order my hotkeys by importance.

Theres 2 things that feels really weird to when I try to position my hand over the home keys and try to press all the keys that are going to be using in the game:
The thumb gets really sore pressing the Ctrl and mainly the Shift keys. I have to raise my thumb quite a bit in order to reach the Shift key, its really not natural to me, anatomically speaking, and even after that Im not able to hit the keys from the above, my thumb hits them on their corners, making it sore (the side of the thumb, next to the nail, is what is pressiong the edge of the keys). Its definitively not practical nor comfortable.
My other concern is with the pinkie, its my less agile finger and it have to press A LOT of the keys in this layout. Its gets worse when the key is below the J, I cant do that move with the pinkie without involuntary moving the ring finger aswell.
Once Im thinking about getting back into RTS and wanted to use the inactive time in my favor, to learn a more functional hotkey's layout (the default hotkeys arent marked on fire in my brains as they would be if I havent stoped playing like 5 years ago). Happilly decided to check if someone had the same idea than me so it would to spare me a lot of time trying every single hotkey in order to make a new layout. I will just try your older one (the one that keeps everything at the left side of the kb) and to change one or two keys if I think its needed. |

| Most zerg pro's assign every hatchery to a separate control group, and don't assign queens to control groups at all. Not sure how this could be incorporated in your zerg layout. Last edit: 2012-06-15 13:32:42 |
