I seem to be having problems watching any twitch tv stream. I can't watch any stream that is through twitch.
I can't even watch at 240 p, however I can watch 720+ if it is Own3d..
I hear that a lot of people are having problems with this, has anyone come up with a solution? |

I think it is related to the region you live in. So you either try a proxy, but they are slow by default. Or you move to another country.
Obvisouly, the easiest solution would be for Twitch to solve their lag problems in certain countries, however that's something you have no influence on. :-/ |

My friend has the same ISP, same country, same region. Closely the same PC programs... Same antivirus, same internet plan.. He can still stream in 720...

I can watch every stream other than twitch TV without lag (gomTV, own3d, etc).
So fed up with comments like "its your internet, its your computer"... Twitch should get their act together. |

For some reason, I dont feel its twitches fault.
As much as I hate that I cant watch any twitch steam, and I know its not my internet or computer, I still feel they are working their hardest..
I thought that by now there would have been a solution, though.. |

mmmmh twitch works fine for me its the damn chat that drives people mad! lol
Anyway dunno if this would help but sometimes for me clearing the web cache of your browser helps lag issues. Set it to a max of 50 mb as well and clear it regulary. Again not sure if this is gonna help you. |

Twitch will be twitch. I can watch a stream without any problems hours on end when suddenly it starts dropping out. So I ask if anyone else has that problem and some will say yes while others of course will say "no it's you."
The frustrating part comes when you load up another stream on Twitch and it will be smooth as a baby's butt, while the first stream is still doing the freeze frame thing. (This continues after a refresh / F5) I have 20/5 Mbps broadband though, capable of watching many streams at the same time while Twitch is behaving, though when these annoying problems occur I make sure it's not something on my end. I don't use the language prefix to visit the site like http://se.twitch.tv ; instead I visit http://www.twitch.tv and have language set to English.
Sometimes it helps lowering the resolution of the video to 480p or even 360p, I think this has to do with high workloads on Twitch's end (or one of its designated servers I'm assigned to.)Last edit: 2012-06-04 19:08:00 |

Yeah, I have ruled out ISP and region, my friends can stream 420p+.
My ISP is TPG..
I don't think its my computer, however....
This is because I can still watch other streams, and I can (most of the time) watch high quality VODs on twitch...
Strange... |

Retested, I CANNOT watch Australian streams also... even though they are local... they wont even stream in 240p
I tested different browsers, also tested clearing web cache and disabling addons. I also re-installed flash player...
None of this fixed the issue..
I retested other streaming sites like own3d, they stream in 720p+ |

| You should post on the twitch support forums instead of here and notify them about the issue |

Take a speedtest at speedtest.net many times throughout the day (not just at one point). The more tests you take, the better. Even better would be taking a speedtest at a server in USA, like a Californian server or wherever the servers are you want to connect to.
In order to help you effectively, it would be better if we had a little more information
- How are you connecting to the internet? i.e. hard-wired? two cups and a piece of string? wifi?
- What type of broadband is it? WiFi (not the LAN type)? ADSL? Satellite? Cable? 4G?
- What speed is your internet plan advertised at?
- How old is the hardware you are using?
- Have you tried an isolation test (unplug everything, but the internet)? If you are on ADSL, try replacing the ADSL filter (they cost like $5).
- If you are using a wireless modem/router, have you tried hard wiring your machine to the router?
- If you are using ADSL, have you checked you have the correct settings on your modem? Phone your ISP if you are unsure.
- Have you tried replacing your modem/router with a new/spare/friends one?
- Can you stream from other sites, such as own3d.tv, etc?
- Have you always had the problem with twitch.tv?

As someone living in Australia and having dealt with TPG and Telstra over various issues for a long time, my recommendation to try and achieve a solution would be to attempt to contact their online representatives (dont go through their support line as that isn't likely to get the problem solved IME, if you want information on how to contact them online, PM me). Outside of that, TPG is known to have latency issues with routing, particularly if the servers aren't in very specific hotspots (for example, they tend to do alright with USWest for routing, but if you route to USEast, you will suddenly bomb out with a ping of 2000 instead of 200). This could extend in some way to Twitch.tv, however, as I am not familiar with how Twitch.tv's streaming service and servers operate, I can't identify the problem any further than that.
As to why your friend may be able to view it on his TPG connection. Check if he is on TPG off-net, That is, using either Telstra or Optus or another ISP's telephone lines through a plan that is billed and offered by TPG. In anecdotal experience, people on Off-net plans for some reason tend to not have the same routing issues (which i understand makes little sense as out of country routing should be handled the same way) as people on TPG's network.
In short, attempt to contact TPG's online representatives and see if they can solve the issue for you. |
