I cant decide if Malz is a weak version of Enigma or of Bane. Given the rest of his kit I think enigma.

Enigma can jungle. Malz can jungle. Bane can't jungle.

Therefore Malz is Enigma.

Well they just HAVE to change something about it sooner or later. At one point people will realize that League is one of the most expensive games on the market right now. =P

Not exactly. If you want to buy everything the game has to offer, sure. But for the price of SC2, you can get a good number of champs. Add an "expansion" and you can easily afford runepages and more champs.
LoL has more to offer than what you can get for that money, but you can still buy enough to call it a full game. You don't go into a shop and say "this is the most expensive shop in the world" just because it has more stuff than you can afford, either.

I've always felt that sorc boots were a waste of boots with only 20 magic pen. why does they get so much attention when merc treads or mobility boots do more for you while you build a quick void staff for near true damage on your spells.

I almost always favor Merc Treads on AP carries, but sometimes the enemy team just doesn't have the CC to make it worth it (or more commonly, they're all knock-up CC). People don't pay much attention to Mobility Boots for whatever reason, so that just leaves the Sorc Shoes or CDR Boots which aren't very necessary given Blue Buff.

Void Staff doesn't given you anywhere near true damage either.

The thing is, LoL is now competing with a game where all of the meaningful content is free and unlocked at the start, and only the cosmetic extras cost money.

Granted, I doubt DotA 2 will really have that big of an impact on LoL, seeing as how different the playerbases are, but the fact that DotA 2's business model is essentially only selling cosmetics has got to turn at least a few heads at Riot HQ.

It isn't even mandatory to pay for cosmetics. You can get them all from playing games.

Because flat magic pen is good earlier on, rushing a void staff is unproductive because its % based magic pen, and people dont usually have a lot of MR until mid-late game.

Even at high MR values and post-Void Staff, the DPS/gold of Sorc Shoes stays very competitive with other potential ways to spend your gold. At low MR values, the gain is far higher.

The thing is, MPen is a multiplicative gain to your magic damage. Even super lategame when that's like 4% or 5% increased damage, when your combo does like 1k+ damage, it's still equivalent to quite a lot of AP. Early game, your spells are weaker, but the multiplicative gain is also far higher.

People just generally overstate how badly Sorcs fall off lategame--the fact that their % damage boost gets smaller is offset by the fact that the value they're multiplying becomes much bigger. And for AP champs, MPen and DCap passive are the only multiplicative damage stats anyway (CDR cap basically being a given).

You can't really compare anything to a valve business model tho. Dota 2 doesn't have (and probably will never) anywhere near the quality of cosmetics that lol has with skins and they'll probably make as much if not more money on them anyway. They'll be selling more then just cosmetics in dota when they get closer to release and it may be interesting to see if riot would include any more of it into lol.

with any case riots business model is far better for being pro esports and that's what I care about it right now .

I never said Sorc boots fall off anywhere and I do agree its useful the entire game

You should check the lists of cosmetic changes for Dota 2, most have a MUCH more dramatic effect in game than any skins have in lol.

I mean, in all honesty 50% of the skin price in lol is devoted to the loading art, wheras a lot of the time the models themselves have minescule changes apart from pallate swaps.

I can't say I really understand this post. the dota 2 cosmetics look straight up badass in some cases and I'm pretty sure valve has better artists floating around than riot, and a less restrictive engine for them to use, too.

You can trade the cosmetics too, how cool is that?

I also don't understand how riot's business model is better for esports, they have the same one.

One of the huge problems I always saw with Riot is that they make money of people wanting to buy something. (durrobv)

The problematic part there is that the biggest incentive for buying a new champion is.... BECAUSE HE IS TOTALLY OP OMG. The fact that Riot has a financial interest in you wanting to buy champions while Valve has an interest in you playing the game (...and wanting to look/feel awesome) isn't exactly a great point for Riot.

Like the question "I have 6300ip, who is currently raping top lanes?" isn't one that's great for actual gameplay, yet it's probably among the top things.

Edit: When it comes to cosmetics/custom sound etc. I feel that the new Ez skin is around the level of your average DotA 2 hero. All the custom taunts and shit add sooo much to the feeling of it. On the bright side (kinda BW vs SC2) I feel League graphics to be more crisp and clear as a result of that. DotA 2 seems much messier for me.

I couldn't agree more. Unlike DotA, DotA 2 has this HoN-esque look. Not having played DotA 2 at all, it's really hard to distinguish what's going on.

Ya the Dota 2 soundsets for each character are AMAZING. Complete with little quips for when they kill specific heroes, buy items, pretty much anything.

Shadow Fiend's taunt when he kills wind runner is just amazing. "I guess gingers DO have souls."

I must be like the only one who found playing Dota2 an agonizingly boring experience.

I did however enjoy DotA for WC3, but not Dota2 weird i guess

How does Dota2 have a HoN-esque look? If by HoN-esque you mean it's difficult to distinguish things, I think it's an inherent trait in all mobas. Things are difficult to distinguish if you haven't played the game extensively.

i dont have any interest in cosmetics (i own zero skins in lol despite having played the game for 2 years). i do put value on the different champs however. paying 5 bucks to get kog maw when he was on sale last week was a great investment. ive played 10 games (so 10 hours approx.) with kog just in the last week, so the value proposition is 5 bucks = 10 hours of gameplay (realistically it will be much more then 10 hours if i continue playing kog, which i will). i have spent 60 bucks on games that dont last 10 hours. thats how i view champ purchases in LoL, and as value for my gaming money i find it hard to beat.

i will never spend money on cosmetic upgrade. it just doesnt appeal to me at all. i also enjoy getting the new heroes in LoL when they come out, and figuring out how to play them on my own. there are a few i dont buy, but overall i enjoy the new heroes and the fact that a new one comes out every two weeks appeals a lot to me.

as long as the dota2 heroes are all completely free, and the cosmetic upgrades they sell dont affect the gameplay i dont see myself spending any money on dota 2 (and if the cosmetic upgrades do affect gameplay i dont see myself playing dota2 at all). whereas over the two years ive played LoL ive probably spent 60-80 bucks total. my brother on the other hand, has played for more then a year and has not spent a single dollar on the game, LoL is perfectly enjoyable for the average person without spending any money.
