Awhile back I made a thread about searching for a laptop in anticipation for college. Someone suggested a Sager and after looking at their wide range of specs and customization in a professional looking package I decided Sager was the perfect brand for me. Well graduation finally came around and I now have the money necessary to purchase my laptop, but am having trouble deciding between two of Sagers models.

Here's the basic difference between them:

NP6110:
-11.6 inch screen at 1366x768 resolution
-LCD glossy screen
-4lb
Price: $915

NP6165:
-15.6 inch screen 1080p resolution
-matte screen
-6lb
Price: $1035

With the 6110 I would definitely buy an external desktop monitor to use in my dorm room which is a huge advantage with the smaller more portable notebook when it is necessary. Reviews mentioned it gets very hot under high cpu/gpu loads (idles around 60c, max load can hit 90c) but I dunno if sc2 would really stress it enough for this to be a concern. Any personal experience with this would be greatly appreciated.

The bigger screen of the 6165 is definitely a huge draw as with the matte screen. But I've never seen/carried a laptop of its size before so I don't know how annoying it would be to lug around.

Not sure what to pick. I know a few people on these forums own Sagers so hopefully they can provide some input if they have the same models. Thanks for any suggestions! ^^

15.6 inch laptops aren't that bad to carry around, at least mine isn't. It fits in my backpack comfortably, I can walk with it on one arm and so forth with zero issue. It fits on an airplane tray table just fine.

17+ laptops are the ones to avoid when dealing with portability. 15 and blow are typical.

I was in the same exact situation as you a year ago, except I was choosing whether or not I should get the NP5160. If I were you, I would get the NP6110 because, from my experience, 15'' laptops are just a tad bit too big to carry around everywhere. Plus, Sager doesn't specialize in making sleek and thin laptops. Of course, it all depends on how much you plan to carry it around. Also, if you use a keyboard, remember that you have to push your laptop back and this does have a notable impact on your viewing experience, so that's one more reason why I recommend NP6110 + monitor + keyboard.

Really it depends on the person. I have a 17.3" laptop that's about 8.7 pounds by itself and I don't even feel it. You tend to get accustomed to things over time. Just get whatever fits your needs better. As far as portability goes, just consider how to plan on carrying it around. Under arm, my 17.3" is still a non issue for me. It fits into my backpack as well. It will seem large when first you get it but then you won't notice.

FYI, you can order the Sager NP6110 with a matte screen from xoticpc.com. I personally can't stand glossy screens.

Update: I paid $189 for the matte screen upgrade at xoticpc, they took 40 days to fill the order. When I got it, the brand new screen had a very bright stuck pixel. I ask them to fix this and they wanted another $60 for their no dead pixel policy. I refused to pay another $60 for this because dead pixel insurance is for after delivery not when it's sold that way. I requested an RMA based on their 15 day no questions asked guarantee. After 4 days of waiting they haven't given me an RMA and haven't responded to my emails for 2 days now. I have a feeling they're not going to make good. If they are, they're sure taking their sweet time about it.
