Such depressing news. I mean, it's great for the Sc2 community, but it officially marks the death of pro BW.

Well, the funny thing is that this wasn't something the SC2 community (myself included) was waiting or looking forward to. My reaction is very much mild confusion. Well, it might be cool, on the other hand we have so many goddam tournaments and leagues around already.

I am actually astonished that "the" BW is actually coming to an end. I never knew much about it, other than that it was really big. I guess they just weren't taking in so much revenue after all.

The SC2 tournament field is going to be a very tough field to compete in, and it'll only get tougher. I am actually looking forward to what the rest of 2012 brings with quite some interest.

Oh well, guess i'll post only in the LoL section rather than watch the OSL evolve into this garbage.
Hopefully we can keep our BW team signatures though -_-.

RIP BW.

a sc2 player finally maybe winning a starleague?!?!

I doubt anyone is going to acknowledge them winning the OSL. Since it's not BW and they already have the GSL.

Guess what? GSL Code S finals were going on at the same time.

Guess which one got more attention.

Edit: Let me give you some statistics about that finals.

Source: DES

1. It got up 2.219% of males aged 19-24.
2. During the final, for almost an hour, it got an average of 1.861% of viewers and was the 2nd most watched program during that time.
3. People started lining up from 7 o'clock in the morning, and almost 8000 people maxed out the stadium.
4. During the finals, ongamenet became one of the most searched words on various Korean portal sites.

I don't think anyone will argue LoL is bigger than SC2 in Korea at the moment, but the Code S finals did have 2,000 people in the arena. It also has 700,000 VoD views on the GOMTV site. That's pretty damn good for a tournament that isn't on television in Korea and is primarily online. Also Squirtle and MVP, if I remember, were one of the most popular searches on a Korean portal site while the finals were going on.

I think this is smart by OGN. By announcing this is the LAST CHAMPION in Brood War history, even if the finals are hyvaa vs. Shine, they'll probably draw a 10,000+ crowd if they decide to go to a big venue. The hype and the legends match beforehand will make it one of the biggest finals they've ever had.

They will be allowed. The more interesting question is: Will they be able to qualify?

More like, will they be willing to go all out for it.

There's plenty of tournaments out there with very GSL level price money. There exists a continuing spectre of the foreigners simply not seeing GSL as worth it: It takes a lot of time (2 months per tournament), have to live in Korea, gets in the way of other tournaments. Is a huge amount of effort, because everyone has such long practise times to prepare for each set of games.

A few foreigners have made an appearance at the GSL, but it's been more a trickle than a splash. I see no reason why the OSL would not be 100% koreans.

Well I loved starcraft 1, I love the concept of starcraft in general. But now bw is officaly dead. So it is starcraft 2s job now to carry my passion. Sure hope it sucsseds and beats its former in terms of skill and enertainment. That is a very tall order though that I somehow doubt it is going to achive.

Even so if starcraft is to be officaly over for me and some of us, at least in the playing aspect, there are other skillfull games out there. And there are also other things in life I found

Also the guys that think sc2 isnt hard enough compared to sc1 you are ther good guys. You guys help e-sports be a sport and not some platform for companies to advartise their shit on cuz the players will watch it. If the future of e-sports are games like LoL then that is not a sport. Bacouse noone will watch that without playing it. And people watch football even though they dont play it. Also there is to little skill involved.

You are e-sports

We are e-sports (said in harbingers voice)

So happy this is happening. It's just ridiculous to keep the current BW pros practising two games. We can finally see their true skill level in SC2 if they're just solely practising it.

Ideally I'd like it if BW and SC2 continued on as different games because clearly the BW players are superior and downright incredible at BW compared to SC2 players who usually quit it to try a newer game. I guess it's just the climate of e-sports now with more LoL primarily and also SC2 being more popular while people are just less interested in BW.

BW is not officially dead; only the Kespa-sanctioned leagues. And that fact sucks, it brought many of the best games to our screens for years.

Oh well, at least I can enjoy the amateur scenes (Sziky vs. Pusan was good) and the foreign league resurgence.

Mixed feelings... Even if I'm not a long-time BW fan I feel kinda sad, but the good point is now Mvp will be able to win OSLs and after he wins two or three we'll be able to eventually call him the first sc2 bonjwa XD

GSL is not the same as OSL, though. There were 9 seasons of GSL in 2011, and I believe there will be 6 in 2012. Pretty different form a twice-a-year event (or is it three OSLs a year?)

As a SC2 fan, I'm more disappointed by the end of professional BW than anything else. SC2 is already flooded with players and events, and while it may be cool to see BW players try to establish themselves in SC2, that's not worth the end of BW.

Can't believe this is the end of BW Sad moment, although its going to be nice seeing a second sc2 tournament in korea and how the KeSPA situation (i.e. how controlling players will carry over to sc2) will look like in some time.
