Ah nice, I nearly made this thread yesterday, but then i got lazy, thanks :D
Men's finals will be interesting, Nadal has been looking unstoppable so far, but if someone can put a term to his ridiculous run it's Djokovic.
Also note that Sara Errani won the women's double tournament yesterday, should be a nice boost to her confidence in today's match, since she's quite the underdog Last edit: 2012-06-09 15:42:09 |

Yeah, Djokovic said as well in the winners interview of the semifinals that Nadal is favorite, but i think that he can give him a run for his money.
For the womens finals i' m cheering all the way for Sara! It should be a boost indeed, however my concern is that she could go into the finals a little tired, cosidering she played semifinals Thursday, doubles yesterday and today finals. Still her best archievement to date getting there. GOGO Errani!

When Nadal is playing at his normal level, he is unbeatable on clay, the way he turns defensive situations where he stands 5m behind the baseline into an offensive one with a single forehand is something I can only watch in awe. He basically robbed a whole generation of players the chance to win Roland Garros. I give Federer huge props that he grabbed the one and only year where Nadal slipped to take the trophy (although sadly they did not face each other). I don't see Djokovic winning at all, but we all know how a Nadal-Federer final would have looked like (probably 1-1 sets with Federer missing 5 breakpoints early in the third set and then lose in four), so Nadal-Djokovic should be way more interesting. But I wouldn't even bet 5€ on Djokovic on a 10:1 quota.
For the woman, I hope Errani takes it. I have an irrational dislike for Ms Sharapova. Well, at least I just don't know why she is so immensly popular. I believe it must have been that she came directly after Kournikova, is blond and could actually win stuff. Still don't understand the hype around her in comparission to other players. Besides my stupid reasoning, rooting for the underdog is always fun. |

There are tons of players around which are as beautiful or even more so. That is why I don't understand how she became the best earning female athlete in all sports. I don't find her particularly attractive compared to other players with similar success.Last edit: 2012-06-09 19:19:01 |

[Belarus] M.MIRNYI / [Canada] D.NESTOR Vs [Usa] (1) B.BRYAN / [Usa] M.BRYAN (3)
Maybe it's because I'm Canadian but I swear every time I read about tennis it's these guys in the finals (with various partners for Nestor). |

| Maybe I'm just spoiled by years of Federer/Djokovic/Nadal and the comparison could be unfair (but at the same time, they earn the same prize money, AND play less sets), but the level of play in women's tennis is mind-bogglingly bad. There's no consistency in the circuit, it's almost like none of the players can keep control of their nerves. The same players who win/reach grand-slam finals are the ones who lose in the first rounds of the next tournament. |

| Maria Sharapova have the same birthday as me, including the year, and she looks a lot like my cousin, so I will always root for her. I'm really happy that she finally won the french open, since she's always had a hard time playing on clay. Last edit: 2012-06-10 00:22:50 |

Thats beacuse in my opinion there is a huge abissal difference beetwen womens tennis and mens Tennis. I am not being classist, just saying that i think women, by nature are much more versatile to their feelings and can be easier to trow off-course. Why? i' m not sure. Maybe something biological. Go figure. In the pre-interview of the match, there was an interesting question a commentator raised, which was, " do you think Sharapova could be the new leader of womens tennis and do you think Womens tennis needs a figure with Carisma atm? And another guy answered that her determination and concentration to the game could very well make here that figure.
Can' t find a picture of Sharapova with the cup, If someone does find it and post it would be sweet. |

| Men's final tonight is going to be awesome, history will be made, nadal could be the first to win 7 French opens and djokovic the first man since rod laver to hold all grand slams at once, which would be a magnificent achievement. I believe more pressure in on djokovic since its harder to be in his current position, not taking away anything from nadal of course. And I think everybody agrees nadal is the overwhelming favourite the form he is in right now, but djokovic can pull an upset for sure. Can't wait! |
