would it be good if esports was on tv? yes it would. i'm just saying that as a business venture there are other more worthy ways to spend time and resources. if it takes little to none of either of those; then by all means go for it.
also, BW on television started in an age of dial-up where broadband let alone streaming did not exist. |

The free stream has ads as does the TV station. I don't see the issue. The TV viewing medium is more "normal" and mainstream. Even though there is a online option that is free, that doesn't mean the TV time is a bad idea.
In the U.S., during football season the NFL is played on Sunday afternoons but there's a game on Sunday night and Monday night as well. The game on sunday night is called Sunday Night Football on NBC, but you can also watch a really great stream of it on NBC's football website, with different camera angles and everything, for free.
So no, it's not too common because TV only has been the business model for so long, and the NFL is the most economically successful sport in the U.S., but yes it does exist. It just depends on what the network wants to do--CBS and FOX don't stream their sports online afaik (and they broadcast like all the other NFL games), but NBC does.

I personally do not have a problem with IdrA as one of the representatives. If T.O. and Randy Moss and people like that can be on TV representing a sport, why not IdrA? Yes, this is a brand new venture, but also no one seems to take into account how much more tame IdrA has been in recent months. |

This is great news! Hopefully more information will come out when the time comes (e.g. which CBS sub-station/ channel it is, etc.).
This can only be good advertising for e-sports, as it could potentially reach more people, newer audiences! |

actually, as others have pointed out; doing something like this too soon could be bad. it's a common saying that first impressions are everything. if mlg/esports get spotlighted while still in its infancy it could backfire. a bad showing on television would just show sponsors that esports can be counted as nothing more as kids/nerds playing video games. it doesn't work where getting on television makes you popular; rather you are popular and therefore on television. anywho, i don't think this is about television at all. more so an attempt to reach out to a broader reaching internet news source.
Yup, I understand. This isn't too soon though, it's actually much later than a risky time when SC2 was not on the circuit. I'm pretty sure a lot of people remember when MLG was on ESPN awhile back with Halo. Ugh.. while the production value on it was absolutely fantastic, the viewership numbers didn't back up what was expected. Times have changed since then, and it could be the prime time period where it could work... but obviously it's possible that it will fail miserably on TV and ultimately, we will all have what we want: eSports on the Internet, but with new viewers.
And yes, I totally agree with you about the reach. |

| I'd be very surprised if this ended up on CBS proper. More likely some CBS sports channel. Not sure exactly what kind of content they'd do. Perhaps broadcasting some top games late? Or some sort of wrap-up show where they do highlights? I'm interested to see where this goes! |

Pretty sure there is no such thing as the CBSi channel. CBSi is just a division that owns a bunch of websites and stuff.
Yup. Which clearly implies it would be some type of online program, which is utterly nothing close to straight up "on the air" broadcasted TV
The title of the article wouldn't say "on TV" if it was talking about an online program. Sundance's tweet also indicates TV even if they're only exploring it as of now.
