As many of you know by now, the Asia server for D3 has been down for maintenance. You might think "Oh this is usual", but in truth, it is down to fix a serious Dupe bug that allegedly has been around for a couple weeks. Heres is a site to the video (Im sorry its not youtube as I cannot access it at the moment
http://games.qq.com/a/20120610/000055.htm (Scroll down to watch the bug)
Blizzard has stated that they will fix the issue and most likely punish/ban players who have abused this bug, but what Im more worried about is what will happen to the economy.
As we all know, each item has a unique ID, and if 2 IDs are the same, one will be removed, meaning duped items will not last more than a couple hours - but a couple hours is enough to sell the items for a major profit. And this is just for item duping alone. I am not sure if gold duping is viable, but Im pretty sure just selling the duped items to NPC already allows some degree of "gold duping"
In D2 there was a ladder system, and even if each season had its own share of bugs and glitches (the most ridiculous AND recent is being able to stack runewords - IE "Grief of the Dying"), when a new season arrives, everything is wiped clean. Not the case in D3 however.
I cannot find any info on whether Blizzard will preform a complete server rollback, or what their action will be in regards to this, but any outcome would change the Asia server (I think)
Please excuse me for my shit english :/ |

| So, that's why it's been down so long. I have a level 52 HC mode character on Asia sever. If they do a reset I'm going to be pretty pissed. |

serious fanbase is serious.
duping was rampant in D2, I'm surprised Blizzard took down the server to address the issues though. I'm interested in what their response will be later on as well. |

Im rather sad as I did spend a lot of time (read: a fucking sleepless week checking tickets and calling Bz) just trying to buy the damn game (issues in taiwan), and Im not ready to give the game up. Im sure a couple patches later D3 will be more stablized, but its sad to see how bad things got from launch to now. |

Pretty sure its on every server, but there have been people saying its fixed. Also people have been saying the video is editted. Not like I can actually test it out with asia down :/ |

I don't know what has Blizzard releasing games that aren't ready to play until MONTHS after launch. It's sad honestly. I miss the old development teams. |

I never played any game but LoD during release. So, I never saw the massive hotfixes applied during the first few weeks? Nah, Blizzard was just a little more wholesome about their productions back then. Even if they had bugs, they weren't as flawed as their games appear to be now. |

The amount of... I don't even...
D2 and LoD had dupes within the first month, if not week of release. D1 you could dupe gold, and duping was stupidly easy. And they never even fixed that, ever.
You either barely played those games, or have a terrible, terrible memory.
OT: I think at this point a ladder system similar to D2 is looking very attractive. Think how much better the game is already since release, and we are due 2 big patches in the next few months. 6 months from now, I'm thinking a new ladder season would be great for this game, especially softcore.Last edit: 2012-06-12 02:01:47 |

While i agree, that i would have preferred a ladder system like D2, I'm afraid that the RMAH is going to make something like that an impossibility. No one is going to want to drop real cash to pay for items that will be erased in a couple of months because blizzard feels like resetting it for the new season.
And since the whole aspect of leveling towards level 99 is gone, i feel like resets would be extremely detrimental to the game as a whole unfortunately. |

People that bot and dup and cheat and hack....dont care if it eventually destroys the game. They will milk as much profit out of it as possible, and when the game is unplayable, they move on to another game. D3 isnt the game to them, their business of exploiting is their game. Once they have destroyed the D3 economy, they have won. And what happens when you beat a game? You go buy a new one to beat |
