Now what I really wan't is a TeamLiquid mousepad. But they sold out before I could buy one twice and now it seems like they're permanently out of stock.
So what other mousepads would you recommend? I wan't it to be under $20 with a slick smooth surface that my deathadder will glide across. What do you recommend? Most of the cheap ones seem like they're cloth. Is that slick enough?Last edit: 2012-06-12 01:23:34 |

| http://steelseries.com/us/products/surfaces/steelseries-qck-mini (~9x8inches) or the bigger variant of it (I have the larger one, 12x10inches) and it's absolutely perfect. I've had a few Razer ones in the past, and I don't know if its just how I hold my mouse, but the edges have always become "rippled" and raised up/worn out. I've had this Steelseries one for a while and I've had absolutely no complaints. Not to mention you can get all the cool designs (http://steelseries.com/us/products/surfaces) AND you're supporting E-Sports and (especially) EG :D Last edit: 2012-06-12 01:27:46 |

| I think that Steelseries QcK+ is better than Razer Goliathus and cheaper. (easier to clean and smoother) |

This. Amazing quality for the price, I've had mine for years now. Also easy to keep clean/wash. |

| Do mousepads even matter? I mean as long as you can move the cursor around at a constant and predictable speed, what difference does a pad versus even desk surface make? |

As a FPS pro, the surface of a mousepad is super important to me. I found my best results using the ZOWiE G-RF, although I don't think they make them anymore. If there's a current equivalent to the G-RF I certainly recommend that as it it's by far the best mousepad I've ever used and I've used the Mantis, Goliathus, QCK, Dasher and others |

They affect how accurate your mouse is, as well as how easy it is to move around. They can also greatly increase comfort. |

It makes all the difference in the world. I also was a skeptic, but after a friend recommended me the SteelSeries 9HD for my Steelseries Xai I decided to give it a try. Simply put, I could not go back to having no pad. I actually tried just using my mouse directly on my desk after being used to the pad and I realized I loved the pad so much. Since the pad is not a cloth mat but more of a plastic board, it makes the mouse glide much, much more smoothly and precisely.Last edit: 2012-06-12 02:14:40 |

I want a pad just to protect the little pads on the bottom of my mouse. Depending on the surface a desk can scratch it up and make it feel rough. Plus my desk is shiny and sometimes has trouble tracking.
Plus some mouse pads feel really nice! I've tried a couple that allow my mouse to glide across the top like it's on ice. I really like that slick feeling!
Thanks for the suggestions guys! Sorry if this is the wrong forum. It's the general forum so I figured it would be ok. If TL get's a shipment within the next week or two I'll hold on for that. Otherwise I'm just going to get something else. |

Different surfaces interact differently with different sensors, e.g., a shiny desk may not interact well with a laser sensor. If you get good performance with your particular mouse and desk combination (and never intend on playing elsewhere), then you are fine. But generally speaking, mouse pads will tailor their surface to optimize and regularize tracking which generally makes your mousing experience better. |

Besides the sensor of the mouse perhaps not working with a particular surface, the only important thing is that the mouse does not feel like it sticks to the surface when you start movements. The friction for the mouse already moving should feel exactly the same as the friction for the mouse at a standstill, so that you do not overshoot your target if you only want to do tiny movements.
Other than that, you decide on a mouse pad by what feels best for you. For example, personally, I do not like the mouse gliding too easily, as I am too jittery for such a setup if I am nervous, and a good amount of friction helps me. With a mouse pad you can choose how you want your mouse to feel independent of your desk.
EDIT: I remembered something else that can be a problem: on a shitty cloth pad, there can be one direction where movement has a different friction than in the other directions, same effect as using your vacuum cleaner on a carpet, you have that one direction where you have to push much harder.Last edit: 2012-06-12 02:47:10 |
