As The title says, I have an AMD Athlon xII (dual core) which works on 2,79 ghz atm and it has 2,00 gigs ram. I've tried searching MSI Afterburner (after seeing a vid that destiny uses) and it's only for Msi GPUs. My graphic card is an Nvidia GT 430 with 2048 MB ram. I would like to know how could I overclock these, and how do I find out how much can my PC coolers support. I'm tired of my friends losing the game because i can't micro in 4v4 battles. (I turned off shadows, I have models on low, but that's another thing to know.) Dragon's PC for example is kind of what I'd like to TRY and overclock my PC to. ( http://www.teamliquid.net/video/streams/Dragon )Lets say it's midgame ZvT (I'm t) and for some reason I chose to go MMM+tanks vs zerg going ling/festor. As you can see already, it is pretty neccesary to micro (against fungal, slutter step, etc.) Is it also worth overclocking? I'm having really a ton of questions on this matter. -How far can I overclock, How much is it worth, what is the risk that my PC will die and what is the risk that my PC will survive, etc. If this matters, with this PC I plan on: -Listening to iTunes (or any other music program in the background) while I play sc2 -Skyping with my friends -Possibly streaming.
Any requests (motherboard, windows, etc) added in the comment section will be answered (I will edit the thread, quoting the comment and adding what was requested)
OS: Windows XP SP3 (32-bit) on 1158x864 pixels. |

You don't have the CPU to stream. Fact. I wouldn't be trying to OC a GT 430, because it's a really small discrete card, and I doubt the cooler can really handle much of an OC. Also, since when did Afterburner go proprietary? It used to work on everything.
You're using a shitty enough PC all around that you really just need new everything to do well in games. Out of that stuff, I'd be most willing to keep the GT 430 and upgrade mobo/CPU/RAM if budget was tight, at least for SC2. |

You wont be able to get good performance on an an Athlon xII in sc2 past early game and you certainly wont be able to run any kind of decent stream on one while playing. Overclocking is a bandaid fix if that and wont really help much at all, your hardware is too old and low end
gt430 would probably run at a decent framerate on low, paired with a sandy bridge pentium or i3 if you got new motherboard + RAMLast edit: 2012-06-12 02:13:11 |

I'm willing to store enough money untill I can save one, so just say that i have a budget of 1000$
Edit: I'm favorising PCs that are spread over the world (so not a PC off some razer site as it's from America all the way to my country, so that's a long way. The taxes are going to be pretty painful).Last edit: 2012-06-12 02:23:34 |

Anything between ~$650 and $1k will easily let you stream well, if you build your own, well. As for specifics, you can't really put something together until you're ready to order, due to price shifts and stuff. |

overclocking on an dinosaur pc... wont make the pc faster much faster... it has a passmark benchmark score of 1700 (approx)
while a i3 2130 4400 score...
even with a i3 is hard to stream... even with your cpu can overclock 400% (math)... its still slow.
you can still stream... but you have to buy a dedicated capturecard and transfer to a dedicated pc for streaming... but this isnt a real option for home-users... |

Passmark is a pile of shit. His PC sucks, but Passmark competes with Windows Experience Score for most useless benching tool known to man. |

| Now that I've counted my money, I'll be able to get a $1k PC by December (3-4 days after hots, by christmas, or by my birthday). Could anyone give me some names of the specs a $1k PC (That's medium or high)? |

| Since you're not going to be building for a while, just check the recent pages of the computer build resource thread to get a general idea, since specific prices are VERY time sensitive. It will give you a reasonable idea of the sorts of things to be looking at. |

I have an Athlon II x2 245, overclocked from the stock 2.9Ghz to 3.55 Ghz. That, with 4 GB of ram, and my ram OC'd to 980 Mhz, and a GTX 550 ti.
I have no issues with the system with an old 9600 GSO on low and medium settings in all 1v1 engagements.
With the 550ti, it can handle high and Ultra, however some FPS drops which are noticable on ultra in larger fights, so I stick to Medium with some high settings for a custom balance. I don't like the screen too distracting, but I want the warp in animations to give me a clue was to what is being warped in (low settings has no detail on warp ins).
my system specs:
Operating System MS Windows 7 64-bit SP1 CPU AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 45nm Technology RAM 4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 490MHz (5-5-5-18) Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer INC. Your only way is to get to as close as 3.6GHz on that Athlon. That is by raising the system clock, lower the multiplier of your Hypertransport/RAM, and raising that vCore. Good luck you gonna need better cooling and probably a good PSU. Since you're running XP SP3, it is a tad sensitive to system stability, so good luck. Most have problem getting to 3.6GHz on XP. Try Win7 if you encounter such a wall.
And if you're thinking bout streaming, you gonna need anything but a Athlon X2 for that. So abandon that idea altogether. As for your GT 430, overclocking it won't get you much unless you get squeeze 100% overclock off it; limitation of hardware, power and cooling. Good luck with that too. |

im not 100% sure if you're saying that the Athlon II x2 cant run sc2 well past the earl game in general or only if streaming. I for one can say that it is impossible to stream sc2, but it can run it no problem. I had a 255 and I overclocked it to 3.6 ghz and had no prob playing sc2 on high. |

with a $1k budget, you could probably get pc thats better than dragons. Dragons specs are
Intel Core i5 2500k (stock speed) Radeon HD 6870 (stock speed) 8 gigs of ram
He uses a regular hdd, not a ssd so its really not hard to get the same spec or better. |

| Is there a program that is made for your GPU? Maybe you can try that, because my Radeon GPU came with AMD overdrive which allowed me to oc my gpu. As for your CPU, the best way is to oc in your mobo's bios. For specifics on that, search it up, there are many detailed guides about oc'ing your CPU and GPU. |
