Coming from an SC2 background, Zerg Macromanagement is very confusing ==' Is it possible for someone to analyse my terrible, terrible replay of me playing against a protoss AI and give me tips? I'm still starting out and have no idea about what to do, other than make lings, defilers and ultras... I am doing a 2 hatch lurker.
I'm not sure what to say because zerg macro has a lot to with reacting against what your opponent does, but once you have blocked the ai zealot rush well... -_- I mean you can more or less move your lurkers to his base and win the game outright. Apart from that, make more hatcheries. You don't have larva inject, so larva are harder to come by, and you therefore need lots of macro hatch. For the rest, practise to get faster, avoid supply block into making 5 overlords etc. You might want to try to play online now (except two hatch lurker won't really work against protoss I think ?).
numquam se plus agere quam nihil cum ageret, numquam minus solum esse quam cum solus esset
-you make lings early, even thou you don't know what the protoss is making (no scouting, this will work only vs ai) -you make sunkens even thou you don't know if your opponent is attacking(no scout, will work only vs ai) -this is not sc2, 2 hatcheries will not work most of the time, only on specific builds that make use of units to attack, not defend -protoss comes you don't have units to defend well, a good player would walk into your main and ignore the sunken line. -you don't attack, wrong. You get lings early - you didn't go harassing the protoss, wrong. -12hatch/11 pool is easily rushable vs real people. -If you want to play this opening, add a 3rd hatch at 14 limit, this will make your economy better later.
You need to play vs real opponents and lose a lot, you won't learn vs the ai. Basicly you can win vs the ai really with anything, 5 hatch lings. You need real oppoenents to improve, go icc, or find a low level player who want to learn too.
I'm still starting out and have no idea about what to do
Heres a build order and example VOD of what I and others on this site consider a great example of the current best ZvP strategy.
ZvP overlord pool 2nd hatchery 3rd hatchery lair spire 4th and 5th hatchery 6th hatchery hydra den and evo 2 sunkens 2nd gas sunken 3rd gas 7th and 8th hatchery 4th gas 2 spores sunken 2nd evo queens 3 more sunkens hive 3rd evo defiler mound nydus 9th 10th and 11th hatcheries
This is a very very rough guidleine to start from.
Don't be afraid to start playing online, and don't be afraid to lose, it's an essential part of improving.
2hatch openings are aggressive, so once you have your tech out, move out and get aggressive. Attack~
Try to learn 3hatch opening builds too.
Even though you were vsing a computer, it's good practice to execute scouting.
After sending your first overlord to find an empty base, send it to the next base. You can also send your 2nd overlord out to scout for the remaining base against protoss.
Have your first zerglings out, if possible you can harass, but at least park them infront of his base on hold position. Watch for when opponents move out.
I recommend you start playing online. Iccup D would probably be difficult for you now, you also could try Bnet East. I don't know what it's like now but when I started, it was a lot easier than iccup and a good place for me to develop my skills, confidence and understanding to begin holding my own on D and then improve from there.
Through vods/replays/streams, reading/discussion and playing experience, you will develop a better and better understanding. Playing experience is most vital, so gogogo. Have fun. Nyaa~
Yeah play online. Maybe start with 2v2 or 3v3 games on hunters or python on battle.net.
Also consider playing som protoss first. Zerg is kind of an art form where the border between mastery and mediocrity can be somewhat elusive. It´s a race that requires more in the way of intuition, experience, knowledge and a continous thought process around what you are doing and why than protoss or terran, where especially as protoss the newbie can be quite succesful when he has learned to make probes and keep his money low.
I guess not everyone will agree with me on this, but I´d also suggest NOT watching a lot of pro games in the beginning. Just play and figure things out as you go along. But when you come across someone much better than you in a game, watch the replay and try figure out for yourself what it is that they do that makes them so succesful.
Ugh... playing online is very discouraging, especially when the first player i played against tells you to quit and never play sc1 ever again ==' But i see what you guys are telling me. Learn more builds, scout more, don't do things blindly and learn when to react xD any more tips? I've decided to stop playing with the ais and go online.

Don't ever let someone tell you that you can't do something

lol I saw the name and I was like, "hmm, is he your cousin or something?"
You should listen to neko, he's like a gosu player . Practice scouting with a scout so that you improve your multitask/get used to the feeling of having to scout.
Yeah play on iccup. Just make lots of smurfs like a certain someone else () so that you don't have to reset stats so much.
No one ever remembers second place, eh? eh? GIVE ME COMMAND
