UPDATE - EU Turbo start time changed from 4PM CET to 5PM! We received a lot of good feedback last week on the events, but the one re-occurring issue was the start time being too early. Keep the feedback coming as we're always looking to improve our daily tournaments =D
--
Launch of EU $20 Turbo Daily
That’s right! You’ve asked for it, and we’re going to do a sample week of EU $20 Turbos! Starting this Monday (9/10), we will be running a trial week of events to gauge interest from the community for this type of event. The tournament will be posted at 3PM CET with check-in starting immediately, and the competition beginning 1 hour later.
As always, we'll be plugging the event once it has been posted in this thread and on Playhem's social media.

So the first week of Playhem $20 Turbo Daily Tournaments has wrapped up, and in case you're wondering, we're going to be running another set of events next week as well! However, there is going to be a few changes to address the issue of players registering and not checking in for the event.
We're going to be keeping the same start time for the event (6 PM EST), but the event page on the Playhem website will be created one hour (5 PM EST) before the start. This way, as soon as you register for the event, the check-in process will begin. This way, we're hoping to cut down on the amount of "no-shows" in each event.
We'll be posting the links to each tournament in this thread, on r/starcraft, and on Playhem's social media

First Week of Playhem $20 Turbos
Playhem, an industry leader in online gaming tournaments, and hosts of the “Playhem $75 Daily” will be doing a test run next week (June 18th - 22nd) of a new 32 player, winner take all, “Playhem $20 Turbo Daily” tournament, which will be open to all levels of play! We’ve taken the community’s feedback on how time-consuming our North American and European $75 Daily events can be, and are looking forward to hearing the feedback on this new daily tournament idea!

| I like the idea, but I feel like having such a small cap for amounts of player and no skill requirement will mean that the tournament might turn out unexiting due to only one or maybe two players of even skill at the top, and the others getting crushed. Though, this is a test, so I guess one will have to wait with judgement, so, gogo playhem moar money into e-sports! :D |

That's definitely a concern, and something we would address after this trial period if everything goes well! We're really interested to see the feedback on doing some tournaments with a potential 1-2 hour time frame for completion (since that is one of the gripes of our EU and NA $75 Dailies). |

| I really like this concept! Assuming the trial run goes well are there plans for playhem to get more casters? (If so I'd be happy to submit my resume) Maybe a new group to handle these or rotate in the regular guys with new talent? Last edit: 2012-06-15 04:52:40 |

I think what could be really interesting is if you made Playhem versions of the maps with reduced minerals/bases. Someone a while ago wrote a long post about a problem with SC2 maps having too much resources so this could be an interesting test on that theory.
It also would be cool if at least in the first few rounds you could do 'bracketless' matchups where your next opponent was just whoever was next to finish their match andthen when you get to the Bo3 do the proper matchup. Of course the slowpokes might wreck things and it'd be tough to admin, but it could eliminate lots of downtime in between matches and for the speedy guys you could say something like Quaterfinals start at 8pm or whatever and they wouldn't have to wait around 5-10 minutes wondering when the next match will start. |

Why dont you PM him that he should PM?
I would like to know the answer as well what Playhem points can be used for.
So the first 32 players who sign up get the spot or how does it work? |

@DDE - Playhem points are used to gain entry into more tournaments on the site
@Marcesr - The first 32 players that sign up for the tournament will be able to compete. Think of it as a Playhem $75 Daily with only 32 players able to participate =D

This is awesome. I have 8 am classes so I haven't been able to play in the Playhem tournaments recently, seeing as they last until about 1 am
I'm excited to play in this |

| I think that it should be people that are a certain rank and above should be allowed to join. Or previous winners of past playhem tournaments automatically get in. I think people want to see names they recognize play against some unknown gm player in a close nail bitting series. No one wants to see a mid-masters player get crushed to BbongBbongprime every time they tune in and have all the other matches follow suit except the finals. |

32 players only? $20? sounds good!
will provide more activity i think, esp since people may need to fight over slots for registration :D |

| I really feel like the time and effort could be put towards opening a KR server daily instead, so that we have one from all servers. I feel like a lot of NA players would really appreciate this and it would help us grow our scene and actually have an online tournament that isn't conquered by koreans. |

I assume that means you are good enough to get that far? There aren't many people that should even be concerned with this... (I suck so yes I would not be concerned) |

Indeed, and those viewers who prefer KR will be able to enjoy a lot of high quality games.
And if someone tells me that NA tournaments would get no viewers: I know for a fact that the PlayhemTV stream is actually a side project that was never planned when starting up the daily, and is not really important to the people who put the money into these tournaments. Playhem's primary goal is to grow their user base, so I think that having a daily on all servers is the best way to do this, although I guess they probably don't care much about users that don't speak english.
@sad.wish: obviously if there was a daily on all servers, we'd restrict each one by region, ala TSL qualifiers (except also restrict eu to eu and na to na).Last edit: 2012-06-15 06:41:35 |

| I agree with Pokebunny, it would be nice to see a tournament dedicated to exposing new talent in the NA scene. Sure, the level of competition wouldn't be as high but it's still interesting to see how our local scene is developing through some smaller events. I don't think playhem would suddenly experience a huge drop in viewership if they had a separate KR daily running at a different time. Last edit: 2012-06-15 07:57:43 |
