This game was kinda fun during school, and now it finally seems to have reached its end of blossom. With the professional scene dying, probably very soon no one will play anymore.
I actually played a bit of 1.6 yesterday. Everybody in the server had like 250+ ping except for me and a few others with sub 100 >.> sort of unplayable lol. I love 1.6, I wish there was still a lot of servers and stuff, I put hundreds of hours into that game at least.
Offical means by someone who is responsible. Does IEM not feature CS 1.6 anymore? Is it not being sold anymore? Is noone playing anymore? You have to get more concrete.

Trust me, in Romania CS 1.6 is still the most played FPS. This game will not die. The professional scene will die easily, yes, but the game itself will never die, or at least not very easy. We still got a huge community and I think 90% of kids have played CS 1.6 at least once. I've been playing myself since '99 (I was freaking 7 years old). I still play CS 1.6 (mostly Kreedz mode - xtreme-jumps.eu // http://www.youtube.com/user/xNucL3aRx ).
Anyway, what else can I say, I'm sad that it's lost its popularity. Meanwhile, CS:S or CS:GO will never reach the same level of awesoness, because they try to emulate too hard the real life. A guy said he put hundreds of hours in this game. I put 3.1k hours in the last 3 years (since I bought it on Steam) and about 5-6k hours more before that at LANs, home and so on.

Why do you think they made this vide? Yes, they removed it from their gamelist.

Define "officially dead". That term is way overused when it comes to counter strike. People still play it, competitively and casually. The casual scene is almost non-existant, but point is people do in fact still play it.

it's still the most played game on steam... the server browser is hacked though. since years. valve just doesnt care. that's why you find so many shitty servers.
and the pro scene is far from dead. the major LAN events always have 50k HLTV spectators and the finals have twice as many stream viewers than SC2 usually . i bet valve paid those leagues a nice little bit of money to drop 1.6 (all dropping it at the same time, lol!)
i like, cause i wanna go pro in CSGO :D

But nostalgia will always win. Those were some fucking great times. I remember starting CS in 2002. So many great moments. So many great lans...oh boy now i know how longterm BW fans feel in a way. But i guess thats how esports work. The games always change so fast.
I will always remeber CS as my favourite Teamshooter.

Disappointing to say the least. I was a member of GotFrag Since 2002 and HLTV and this game has a very long and amazing history. But I quit about 2 years ago. I must say that StarCraft 2 peaked my interested so much I quit because of it. I did however play competitively and still keep up with the pro scene even to this day. By far my favorite and in my honest opinion the best team based FPS ever made. The game isn't dead yet WCG was terrible for CS last year. IEM was a HUGE blow to the community though. I think CS:GO will take over when it comes out, unlike source. Because at this moment CS 1.6 players have nowhere else to turn. This was not the case when source released. I'll always remember the fun I had playing though
Note: The OP is wrong in saying it's dead. Two big tournaments (WCG and IEM) announced they were pulling the plug on CS 1.6. The community very much keeps it alive like the above poster stated the community CS 1.6 has is EXTREMELY dedicated. The reason for the pulling the plug on CS 1.6 because it has a huge lack of support from fans outside of Europe. But the op doesn't really give enough information to say it's "dead" it is still far from it. Dreamhack Summer is going to be starting in what? Like a few days or something. Maybe already did. People will continent to support it and pro's will continue to play until CS:GO is released. SK's 1.6 team already won the CS:GO beta cup. They also practice it a lot. This was simply inevitable.
updated the thread to make it a bit more concrete...you could have done the research yourself guys
IEM has always been a major tourney for cs, so this decision IS magnificient for all who care about this game. Personally I mostly don't, but it was really one of the best team shooters for any LAN back then..

First of all: wrong forum. 2nd: its quite obvious, the engine is outdated and fail to attract new players. CS:GO coming out next so valve prop gona pump some comercial money to make leagues picck it up for at least 1 season. RIP 1.6!
