It has been done before with dutch total football.

But yeah 2 points here...

a) Iniesta is only 28, which is ridiculous. Messi only 25. Xavi 32 but he plays the same role as Scholes who is still going. Iniesta is similar to Giggs and will get a good tail-end to his career. I reckon that Iniesta Xavi and Messi can still be the fulcrum of Barça for a full 6 years.

b) No one in Barcelona is as good as any of the 3 aforementioned players.

I dont think Xavi can hold on for another 6 years he's already skipping games and taking his rest and getting injuries.

Sigh
John Terry racist saga goes to court this week and has started.

England footballer John Terry called Anton Ferdinand a racist obscenity in response to taunts about his alleged affair with a team-mate's ex-girlfriend, a court heard on Monday.
Opening the prosecution on Monday, Duncan Penny said: "The Crown alleges that the words he used demonstrated hostility based on Mr Ferdinand's membership or presumed membership of a racial group."

The court heard that Terry maintains he was only sarcastically repeating words that Ferdinand wrongly thought he had used.

Mr Penny said: "The Crown alleges that the defendant, most probably in response to physical gestures being made by Mr Ferdinand which the defendant understood to refer to the well-publicised allegation of an extra-marital affair with a team-mate's wife, shouted at Mr Ferdinand."

Source

Also id like to add, that the whole way this report is written is an actual joke, they acting like he has done it and been found guilty already! He has been accused of this, and has been accused of racially abusing Anton who was mocking him about sleeping with his mates girlfriend etc. Then he said "i did not call you (insert raciall abuse)" in response to Anton saying he did.

They tried that with Ibrahimovic (who's a hell of a lot better than Llorente) but it didn't work. The problem with any plan like that is it takes Messi out of the middle where he's most dangerous.

what i meant was giving messi a break, which means not playing him at all. there are only about three players who can play the forward position at barca and they are messi, villa, and fabregas(not really). a llorente or someone would give messi some rest

Messi doesnt take breaks, he throws tantrums yes tantrums when he doesnt get to play. Also buying a Llorente as a bench player is not fair to the player. What did Llorente do to deserve being benched even if it was to replace "gasp" Messi. Hes a footballer and hes going to want to play football. Thats the same reason Tuore was sold, these guys dont deserve to be bench players so unless its a twilight of his career great looking for some silverware you arent getting that kind of quality backing the likes of Messi up.

He's going to get lots of playtime, but it's going to be a hard season. Bremen sold their best players (Wiese, Pizarro, Marin) and now have a very young, inexperienced team (currently youngest team of the Bundesliga). Besides Gebre Selassie, Sokratis and maybe Arnautovic, Elia is basically their only player capable of competing on an international level.

David Villa definitely is an ultra classy player but he is getting older (30) and has just had a serious injury. If he does come back as good as he was, he will only have a couple of top quality years left in him. Jordi Alba looks like the real deal but bringing in a few pace merchants here and there (ie Sanchez) isn't going to mean diddly squat if they can't find replacements for Xavi/ Iniesta/ Messi in the future. The team is based on passing accuracy, decision making ability and delicate one-twos much more than pace. Iniesta is not the fastest player alive but he can consistently beat the offside trap and skin players because he has the brains to leave them flat footed.

Sad to see Park Ji-sung go to QPR, especially since he retired from international football at such a young age to focus on playing club football.

Interesting to see he rejected a new contract to move to QPR.

And his Girlfriend!!

But yeah, im guessing he just wanted to play football, wasn't getting it at United so choose to look else where, QPR come up offer him crap loads of money to play for them, with promise of new stadium, investment and exciting times ahead, guess he could go down in history for them if he gets them into Europe or something ^_^

Look lets be honest. No one gave two shits about Xavi before 2008. He was literally the same player he was for 10 years before that. Pickup any footage you want. Problem is he works well in a particular system. One that only started with Guardiola. Somet like Zidane work in all systems they are just that good. Xavi is not quite the same.

Iniesta and Messi have a shit ton of years left in them. Xavi can still maintain a big game presence easily. He rested a ton of games last season to little detriment. He has a couple of years left in him.

No team is going to remain intact but doesnt mean that people that are coming out of the academies wont be as good maybe even better. Ofcourse they might not be as good just as easily. Chances are the latter is more likely. But thats what you get when you put faith in that kind of system and its still the best way to go about it both financially and culturally because it strengthens the base of your footballing culture.

So regardless of wether you get a Xavi or not these guys like Thiago. Cuenca, Tello look atleast good enough. They might not maintain the "best team in the world vibe" but you dont just walk into that when a team is in transition unless you go the City or Galacticos route, and even that is no gaurantee. So they might not be as good as they are now for a while, but there isnt anything drastic that needs to change really.

The qualities you say the teams are built around are qualities every kid is literally hammered into from day 1. Pass and move, put your head up. Know what your doing with it before you get it. Not everyone can do it and they keep the ones that do. And where they dont find someone satisfactory to fit in they buy someone who looks like they might or if one got away (ala Alba/Pique) they try and get them back.

Edit: If anything about that Milan PSG deal today is true, so much for all that rubbish about them not being able to attract big players.

I can't tell if you agree with me or not, in fact I really can't tell the point of your post there Rebs. I'm saying that Barcelona are not going to stay at the top of everyone's estimations if they can't replace Xavi/Iniesta/Messi, because they are the heartbeat of the team. You seem to agree with me, I was just backing up someone else's point in the first place. Cuenca and Tello are standard pace merchants, haven't seen enough of Thiago to know if he is going to be the next Andres Iniesta...

My point is it isnt just Barcelona. No team ever can ever replace players of that caliber consistently unless they splash cash Like ever, so it was a pretty moot point to make. Fortunately for them they arent going to face that problem anytime soon so it isnt a huge problem and those supposed "pace merchants" arent in there for that quality alone. If that were the case Barca's philosophy is probably dead, buried and turning in its grave already because they do appear the best academy prospects.

In the first semifinal for the U19 Euro, greece has defeated england 2-1 with the 2nd goal in extra time.
Greece was also playing with 10 players from the 44th minute.

A greek team on the making that can actually play high level football? Well, I'll be damned.

True. I actually like the whole splashing the cash thing, I think the transfer period of football is one of the most interesting. And with FFP there will be less and less fun to be had over that period. And teams will be more stagnant, unable to sell and buy to switch up their lineups, making it more boring for spectators (for me one of the best things in football is the fact that every season has so many transfer-originating wrinkles). I personally am quite skeptical that FFP will be good for football. I can see three things happening:

a) big, monied clubs moving their stranglehold on the market to the youth recruitment world, and applying masses of pressure there to swallow up all the other youth recruitment initiatives, so smaller clubs don't even get the payday they used to of rearing a great young player and moving them on for £10-20m, and FFP is unable to engender 'fair play' into the game.

b) the same big clubs make more and more ridiculous ways of getting money, gouging their fans, increasing stadium sizes, doing anything possible to skew the amount of money they are allowed to spend on clubs.

c) no new clubs can ever make big jumps into the big leagues with a big injection of cash like they have done in Manchester City or PSG or Chelsea. As much as people might dislike this occurrence, for me it does make the whole world of football more exciting. To my mind it is a great thing that rich people can be attracted into football, spending shitloads on the beautiful game and making it more exciting and interesting for everyone.

Fulham get Rodallega...SUCH a good move imo. He is proven in the league, good age, one of the best players in Wigan. If they can hold on to Dempsey they might be able to jump a couple of places, especially if Dembélé keeps improving. 3 wonderful attacking players. I remember in my fifa game I brought in Hamsik kekeke, but Rodallega will do .

The transfers will be stagnant for a while untill the prices are actually reasonable again. Clubs will need to adjust but it wont be like that forever.

Btw this will actually give other clubs a chance to compete on their merit and the merit of the management instead of just getting a huge amount of cash infused in them.
Just look at German teams they're good now but a Dortmund would just be a bigger club if other clubs weren't allowed to make so much debts like teams in Spain and England do.
You will see new clubs popping up just look at a FC Twente which went from near bankrupcy to a top team in the Eredivisie in 6 years or another nice example is Swansea who do so well for a club with that budget in the EPL.

Point is you'll see new clubs popping up just not because there will be a huge amount of cash pumped into it a la City but because they have a competent management who spends its money well.
