A young attractive hypnotist hypnotizes a bunch of 13 year old girls for 5 hours...Whats the worst that can happen? I have a hard time believing hypnotism is actually real. I think every teenager these days looks hypnotized @.@
A group of young students at an all girls school were left in "mass hypnosis" after a demonstration from a fledgling hypnotist reportedly left them locked in a trance.
Maxime Nadeau was forced to call on his mentor for assistance after the hypnotist could not reverse the condition of several 12 and 13-year-old girls at the Collège du Sacré-Coeur private school in Quebec. One of the girls was reportedly left in a trance for five hours.
"Being in a trance is a state of well-being," Nadeau told the CBC's French-language service. "I wasn't stressed. I knew they would get out of it."
Still, Nadeau eventually called in his mentor and trainer Richard Whitbread to reverse the effects.
"There were a couple of students who had their heads lying on the table and there were [others] who, you could tell, were in trance," Whitbread said. "The eyes were open and there was nobody home."
In order to reverse the effect, Whitbread says he convinced the girls he was "re-hypnotizing" them and them brought them out of the trance "using a stern voice."
"I don't know how to explain it. It's like you're no longer there," student Émilie Bertrand told the CBC about her experience. "You're spaced out."
Nonetheless, Bertrand described the experience as "cool" as said she would do it again, even knowing the potential consequences.
Interestingly, Whitbread said the girls may have been especially vulnerable to Nadeau's suggestions because of his young age and "good looks."
first of all hypnosis is not what it is in the movies. its more of a deep meditative state. You can't really control people with it, you can give them suggestions but its not like they'll do anything(at least I'm pretty sure that's how it works). really though nothing bad is going to happen although this guy sounds like he shouldn't have been doing this in the first place but then again hindsight is always 20/20 so its possible this had never happened to him before. not his fault assuming he was qualified and competent, sometimes things just go weird and hypnotism can be funky sometimes.
p.s. something is wonky though if their stuck in a trance for 5 hrs. it shouldn't be more then 20 mninujtes to call the mentor and fiogure it out so based on this I'm going to say not even his mentor knew what to do initially so its hard to blame the guy, unless theirs information im not seeing.
but if it actually took him a few hours too call his mentor than some sort of discipline should probably be enforced.

People need to understand the consequences before they make up stuff: Let's say this actually DID happen and it worked like the claim, that this was not some sort of PR trick. Then why aren't everyone doing this shit and "controlling" people, why start a freaking war and kill people when you just can hypnotize them and then kill them?
BECAUSE IT DOESN'T WORK. if it worked we would have the wars of the hypnotists and shit. UPRISING AND FREE WILL WOULD BE NONE EXISTENT CAUSE YOU WOULD JUST HYPNOTIZE PEOPLE.

Its very much real. If you do not want to be hypnotized it doesn't work, and when you are hyponotized you won't do anything you wouldn't willing do. For instance, a hypnotist couldn't make you kill your mom but could probably make you get naked and do a handstand.
All hypnotism does is subconciously remove inhibition for a breif period.

What ended up happening at that hypnosis show was that volunteers were "hypnotized" into believing that their arms were immobile like steel. The Hypnotist was then checking each volunteer's arms to see which were immobile and which weren't. He was actually checking to see which volunteers were skeptics and which were playing along. Throughout the rest of the show, the volunteers who "played along" were given chosen to do more difficult and outrageous tasks, like "being shocked when you hear a handclap" or "being Michael Jackson" or "believing that the number 3 doesn't exist". The skeptics were not asked to do as much.
I was one of the volunteers who played along. I singled out a person in the audience who I "believed" was shocking me consistently by clapping his hands. I moved to attack him, but it was cool because I was restrained and everyone thought I was hypnotized. It was fun.

this kind of argument has been used by criminals as an excuse and has been debunked by scientists, including those that actually uses clinical hypnosis in therapy and treatment settings.

This post is pretty accurate. Hypnosis or rather verious Trance states are imo, as someone who has worked with it before, more like a guided meditation. I'd say it feels pretty similar as well.
Five hours sounds rather extreme, but considering it was just one girl it's definitely possible. You have to keep in mind that it's usually harder to lead someone out if you didn't lead him/her in because you're not aware of the imagery that was being used. That's also why the usual "procedure" is to make the client imagine he's getting lead deeper into trance just to lead him out with the same images shortly after.
The obligatory "LOL THIS SHIT DOESNT WORK"-crew has either seen too many Hollywood movies or no real clue about e.g. meditation which gives pretty damn similar results.
