This video from SOTG has Isaac (I think that's how you spell it) from EG talking about other reasons to the low viewership numbers other then Dreamhack going on at the same time. I wanted to bring attention to this because GESL got 1-2k viewers for Starcraft II, while LoL (which I also play so not really biased here) got upwards of 45k viewers.
Reasons for this are unclear with some finger pointing at Destiny's fan being upset that he was not able to go to GESL, but at the very least this deserves some attention because there were some great games played and they deserve to be seen.
tl;dr lots of sponsors saw Sc2 and its drama as a bad thing, while LoL performed great. We need to stop this negative trend in the community as soon as possible.
note: Sorry if the title seems sensationalist, mods feel free to edit or lock it if you feel it is not relevant.
edit: I know they talked about Destiny's fans not him directly, completely derped on this one guys sorry!

Dreamhack, Destiny's fans, and just a lack of advertising.

Wanted more people to be aware that this happened, because most people assume Dreamhack end of story. Don't think it was fair that it got sabotaged and I want more big sponsored Lans in the future. Just my two cents sorry..

Pretty sure this is a lack of advertising as well, I had not heard of this tournament until this topic came up. I searched for GESL and found a 6 pages topic covering day 3 of the event... Not many people seemed to have known about this event.

Wrong, you might be a bit misinformed, Destiny is not to blame, maybe his fans, I don't know.
Yes, GESL had problems. There's nothing to learn from it and to use it as an emblem to say "we need to stop doing this" is 1. singing to the choir and 2. being a bit redundant.
Everyone who posts here in support of your idea are... already supporting it or have never done the negative things that hindered GESL.
Bare in mind also that the SC2 lineup was kinda poor compared to dreamhack, where as the LoL event had CLG and TSM, who gain about 15k viewers each instantly just for showing up.
Please check these out and tell me what you think: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=398973

GESL had tons of koreans, as well as top americans!

You give no evidence whatsoever linking sponsors to the problems with this event.
You should not have to pay to watch the GSL, Proleague, or OSL at a reasonable time. That is not "fine" and it's BS to say otherwise. http://www.youtube.com/user/dabom88
I personally think all this stuff about DDOS and HACKERS is a load of rubbish. One should ask Artosis why he was able to watch 14 hours of Dreamhack during the weekend, yet did not watch a single hour of GESL.
I tell you why , Its the same reasons why all of us did not watch Gigabyte Lan
1) No Hype for this tournament
2) No big name commentators
3) While some of the players were good,Hardly any are fan favorites. They only have violet/demulsim/maybe alica that people in the masses might actually care about, and even then Alica is still in my opinion just another GOOD korean since i have never seen an interview with him yet. So to sum it up, Players we dont care about
4) The biggest reason of them all. Dreamhack was alot more interesting because All the foreigner favorites/top foreigner players were there. Gigabyte seemed to have gone down the route of Ipl4, which is almost 100% koreans. Its not that we dont like to watch koreans , We have GSL for that. But in lan events i have noticed the community wants to see Foreigners vs koreans. Not foreigners who stand no chance vs the koreans = an embarassing show to watch.
5) on the first day, i could not be bothered to sit around waiting for the technical issues to be solved.
So thats my reasons. I find it quite funny to hear all this hacking and ddos stuff when im certain this is news for the majority of people. Bottom line is gigabyte lan should not expect to compete with Dreamhack as a first time event and should have rescheduled for another date or not even bother trying. Its because of the poor decisions that were made from the adminstration to set up this event we now have probably lost many potiential sponsors. I blame it all on the admins for this poor tournament.

Violet Kawaiirice Illusion Golden Demuslim Beastyqt Tails Alicia Ryung Clide Monster Dream Axslav, to name a few.
Let's be honest here: with the exception of Violet and DeMuslim, most of these names are up and comers in their respective scenes with very minimal name recognition compared to the big superstars at Dreamhack. Viewers want to watch people who they've already seen win tournaments thousands of times. Just how it goes.

With the exception of Azael and Doa, who even then aren't the biggest names, the caster line up was extremely weak.
I cringed when I saw the Playhem guys -_-.

I didn't even know it was on until i saw day 3, and when i looked at the Liquipedia and saw DeMuslim had lost to monster i didnt even put the stream on. I say the sevre lack of advertising is to blame, plus stupid time to put it on whilst DH weekend was on. Smaller events trying to break through should never stream alongside DH/MLG/GSL/ESL events imo

They had some good players there as for Koreans but if they only had like 1 or 2 and the rest NA players I think the tournament would of been a lot more interesting and successful.
A bit off topic but I would of been a lot more interested if this tournament was 90% NA players instead of having like 10 Koreans there.
my points was *nearly NO coverage (or very less, no found big anything didnt even knew it was running before it started) *nearly NO non us foreigns (for europeans sorry to say but its super uninteresting, at least the best us players wasnt even there completly so it was midclass us players vs koreans = boring games) *non us watchers dont even know 30% of the us players, seeing players you dont know lose 0-2 to koreans who arent top tier is really unwatchableworth reamhack + it vods fill complete weekend, even same date then MLG would be better then choosing same date as dreamhack *zvz only in top4 make me turn it off *only koreans (not even super world elite) in top8 and all foreign lose 0-2 in top16 *not that known casters (cool to have new but better in combo with known ones so you get introduced in them)
all this points just make it bad, worst thing was just the lack of top players because of dreamhack and axslav was the only reason to turn it in
you have to make BIG teasers, banners, commercials, trailers and INTERVIEWS alot with known casters and some superstar foreign players and you have *10 the viewers INSTANT (and dont do it while dreamhack or mlg)
I did not know who the players or the casters were.
It was most likely at a bad time for europeans.
Since it was in the US I imagine that if I wanted to watch GESL and Dreamhack I would have to stay up stupid hours, or watch SC2 for 20 hours a day, 3 days in a row.
Watching SC2 is great and all, but the problem is when there is too much of it, very few people want to watch 20 hours in a row.
And also I had no idea about this tournament, nothing about it on TL, if tournaments want more people they should get TL to do writeups about the event, because otherwise people just don't know about it.
